Film review Wish It Were True. A different way of telling a story
As for the couple I can say that the look was very much adapted to the characters especially we saw Mark Ruffalo with his disdainful appearance that perfectly represented the character of a somewhat careless person and Reese Witherspoon who managed to fit with him very well even though Ruffalo is not the ideal prototype of protagonist in terms of appearance, however, to see them together they looked very cute as a couple.
The plot is set in the state of San Francisco where a doctor named Elizabeth (Witherspoon) must compete for a position as an intern with a doctor who, like her, wants to achieve the same goal, which is to become a head doctor, competing through work for the position, reflecting the difference between two types of doctors, one who seeks fame and the other who really wants to be a good doctor and help patients to heal.
Elizabeth wins the position of head doctor and just when she thought she had finally achieved her dream for which she had fought for so many years, life has an unexpected event in store for her that shatters all her efforts and plans, making her a totally different person from what she is used to.
In that moment of change she meets David (Ruffalo) who was a landscape architect who had become accustomed to being a little lazy and just breathing, but David had no idea that a little woman who was frantic about order and cleanliness would come to make his life a mess, entering into an all-out battle where each will try to fight so that only one will stay and the other will leave, Putting into practice a series of situations to achieve their goal, these two declared enemies will understand that destiny has brought them where they are, what will happen in this little struggle for power?
My thoughts
I wish it were true made me reflect on the value of life and is that sometimes you leave aside the essential that is to enjoy life to fight for success at work or money, that was reflected in the protagonist who struggled to be recognized in their work area leaving really live to focus entirely on medicine, missing important moments in her life, becoming a kind of machine that only attended patients and did not even have time to sleep, eat, go out or be with her loved ones, which made her regret because she felt that she had totally wasted her life and had not lived the stages like: falling in love, having children, travelling, going out, socialising, having friends or simply sleeping, when she realised her mistake it was too late because she was between life and death which made her regret how she had lived understanding that she lost an important part of her youth.
On the other hand we have David who decided to give up with his emotions, he gave in to a tragic and unexpected event that happened in his life, Despite the fact that he had a psychiatrist friend who advised him and urged him to change his life, he did not want to receive any help to get out of his depression, so he did not progress and the post-traumatic depression got the better of him, which led him to be a dead man in life.
Sometimes when solutions are not found, life itself gives an opportunity, because while there is life there is still hope to turn around and change destiny, only human strength is capable of deciding whether to stay as it is or to embrace life and change destiny.
I think the writer was wise to mix delicate situations without going out of comedy, fantasy and romance managing to give a message in a pedagogical way without falling into dramas or break the hearts of the audience with tragedies or much less, so I spent a very fun and enjoyable time but that carried a very precious message to the viewer which was to reflect on life itself and how we were carrying it.
As a curious fact, the film is based on the book with the same title and although it presents almost the same plot, the writer in charge of the film made several changes to make it a little different from the book.
Final thoughts
I think that giving a chance to some films that have been released some time ago has its reward because even though time goes by if it is a work of art you can appreciate it no matter the time, this is one of the films that entertains me and makes me have a nice time even though it touches sharp issues but as I mentioned before they were treated in a nice and even funny way, also the scenery made me relive that classic American touch bringing back nice memories and if I had to give a star rating to this movie I think it would get a lot of stars because I loved the movie so much that every time I can I relive this story with popcorn on my couch.
I hope you liked the review of I wish it were true, thanks for stopping by, see you on another movie day.
