The Good, the Bad, and the What Could Have Been - "The Wheel of Time" Season 1

Hi everyone, it's me once again. It's been a while since I last posted a review in my blog, and in my most recent post, I mentioned about myself to being active again in Hive, after a long hiatus. When I am away, I have watched a lost of shows, mainly TV shows. For movies, not a lot. As a couch potato, I am excited to share my thoughts on a new Amazon show, "The Wheel of Time". This fantasy adventure series is based on the beloved book series of the same name by Robert Jordan and stars Rosamund Pike, Josha Stradowski, and Marcus Rutherford. I remember always seeing these series of books in our local library but I never bothered to read one. Though already on its second season, my post is a review of its first season.

The People Behind and the Cast

First off, let's talk about the people behind the show. "The Wheel of Time" was created by Rafe Judkins, who previously worked on shows like "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "Hemlock Grove". The show was produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios, so it's no surprise that the production quality is top-notch.

The cast of "The Wheel of Time" is outstanding. Rosamund Pike leads the pack as the powerful and mysterious Moiraine, and she does an excellent job of bringing the character to life. Josha Stradowski and Marcus Rutherford also shine as the two main male leads, Rand and Perrin. Fans of the series will be pleased to see these beloved characters portrayed so well on screen. Additionally, the rest of the cast, including Madeleine Madden and Barney Harris, are all talented and deliver strong performances.

The Plot

Now let's get into the plot. "The Wheel of Time" follows a group of young people from a small village who are thrust into a world of magic and danger. Moiraine, a powerful Aes Sedai, has come to their village in search of the Dragon Reborn, a prophesied hero who will save the world from darkness. The season follows the group as they journey with Moiraine and face various obstacles along the way.

The Good

The good thing about "The Wheel of Time" is how well it balances action, drama, and fantasy elements. The first few minutes already caught my attention. The world-building is impressive, and the special effects are top-notch. The show also does an excellent job of fleshing out its characters and making the audience invested in their journeys. The pacing is well-done, and the season finale leaves audiences eager for more.

However, there are a few not-so-good things about the show. Just like other fantasy series, it may need some time for you to be familiarized with the characters. There are a number of them and the challenge with this kind on the early part of the show is we don't know how these characters are connected. Though this may improve through time as the story develops. Additionally, some of the dialogue can be clunky and awkward at times.

The What Could Have Been

In terms of what could have been improved, the show could have benefited from more character development for some of the supporting characters. While the main characters are fleshed out well, some of the side characters feel like they could have been given more attention. I always look for subplots or underlying stories in supporting characters which may also be interesting and can add elements in the show.

Overall, "The Wheel of Time" is an excellent show for fans of fantasy and adventure. The cast is strong, the production quality is top-notch, and the story is engaging. While there are some flaws, they are minor in the grand scheme of things. I highly recommend giving "The Wheel of Time" a watch.
