Reseña de Incendies, uno de los Mejores Plot Twist del Cine [ESP/ENG]
Aprovechando mis pocas semanas de vacaciones, he estado viendo muchas películas que tenía en mi lista de "Por Ver", desde lo muy comercial como cine independiente e incluso amateur; esto me ha dado mucha cultura cinéfila lo cuál me es súper útil para crear mis propias historias. Muchas de esas películas han sido recomendaciones de algunos profesores, amigos e incluso por reseñas que he visto en redes sociales, principalmente TikTok; gracias a esta última aplicación fue que llegué a Incendies, con la promesa de el mejor giro de trama del cine contemporáneo así que inmediatamente llamó mi atención.
Tratare de describirles la película a nivel técnico como de espectador sin dar ningún spoiler, aunque la verdad es que no importa lo mucho que describa, no se van a esperar esa resolución del conflicto a menos que se los diga directamente y no lo haré; sin más, empecemos con esta reseña.
Taking advantage of my few weeks of vacation, I have been watching many movies that I had on my “To Watch” list, from the very commercial to independent and even amateur films; this has given me a lot of film culture which is very useful for me to create my own stories. Many of those movies have been recommendations from some teachers, friends and even reviews I've seen on social networks, mainly TikTok; thanks to this last application was that I came to Incendies, with the promise of the best plot twist in contemporary cinema so it immediately caught my attention.
I will try to describe the film to you on a technical level as a viewer without giving any spoilers, although the truth is that no matter how much I describe, you are not going to expect that resolution of the conflict unless I tell you directly and I won't; without further ado, let's start with this review.
La historia se centra en Jeanne y Simon, dos mellizos que tras la muerte de su madre, Nawal, descubren que tienen otro hermano y que su padre aún esta con vida; en la lectura del testamento, su madre les encarga a cada uno una tarea específica, a Jeanne le encarga encontrar a su padre y entregarle una carta, a Simon le encarga encontrar a su hermano y hacerle entrega de otra carta.
La actitud de Simon ante toda esta situación nos da a entender que Nawal no fue la mejor madre con ellos, al parecer fue una madre muy ausente y crecieron en un ambiente con bastante carencias emocionales; sin embargo, Jeanne decide acatar la tarea y buscar a su hermano.
The story focuses on Jeanne and Simon, two twins who after the death of their mother, Nawal, discover that they have another brother and that their father is still alive; in the reading of the will, their mother gives them each a specific task, Jeanne is asked to find their father and give him a letter, Simon is asked to find his brother and give him another letter.
Simon's attitude towards this situation gives us to understand that Nawal was not the best mother for them, apparently she was a very absent mother and they grew up in a very emotionally deprived environment; however, Jeanne decides to comply with the task and look for her brother.
Mientras Jeanne viaja al Oriente Medio que es de dónde provenía su madre, se nos muestran la vida de Nawal desde su perspectiva, revelando que provenía de una familia Cristiana, de su relación prohibida con un refugiado y de un embarazo que manchó su honor como el de su familia, obligándola a separarse de su hijo al nacer como a mudarse a la ciudad de Daresh (ciudad ficticia) para estudiar y romper el ciclo de analfabetismo que sufrían las mujeres de su familia.
Nawal cumple la promesa que le hizo a su abuela de estudiar pero también, ya en la ciudad, comienza la búsqueda de su hijo sin importar lo peligroso que esta pueda ser debido al contexto de guerra que estaba empezando en esa zona del planeta; la abuela de Nawal marcó al niño al nacer con tres puntos en su tobillo derecho y esto era lo único que ella tenía para identificar a su hijo porque no sabía ni su nombre ni dónde había estado todo ese tiempo.
As Jeanne travels to the Middle East where her mother came from, we are shown Nawal's life from her perspective, revealing that she came from a Christian family, her forbidden relationship with a refugee and a pregnancy that tarnished her and her family's honor, forcing her to separate from her son at birth and to move to the city of Daresh (fictional city) to study and break the cycle of illiteracy suffered by the women in her family.
Nawal fulfills the promise she made to her grandmother to study but also, already in the city, begins the search for her son no matter how dangerous it may be due to the context of war that was starting in that area of the planet; Nawal's grandmother marked the child at birth with three stitches on his right ankle and this was the only thing she had to identify her son because she did not know his name or where he had been all that time.
Mientras observamos la vida de Nawal, vemos también la perspectiva de Jeanne y como va descubriendo a lo largo de su búsqueda que su madre no era la persona que ella creía que era, enterándose de las acciones que había hecho en su pasado, que había estado presa y las torturas como violaciones que sufrió en esa prisión.
Simon viaja también a este país no identificado para buscar a Jeanne pero esta termina obligándolo a unirse a la búsqueda, descubriendo piezas importantes para terminar de armar el rompecabezas.
While we observe Nawal's life, we also see Jeanne's perspective and how she discovers throughout her search that her mother was not the person she thought she was, learning about the actions she had done in her past, that she had been imprisoned and the tortures such as rapes she suffered in that prison.
Simon also travels to this unidentified country to look for Jeanne but she ends up forcing him to join the search, discovering important pieces to complete the puzzle.
La película es un viaje muy denso, lleno de muchos detalles, información e incluso imágenes que pueden ser muy emocionales para cierto tipo de público pero también te mantiene muy cautivado porque te interesa revelar el gran misterio que se va entretejiendo.
No seguiré comentando más sobre la trama para que quienes la vayan a ver, no pierdan ese factor sorpresa que da la resolución del conflicto, la verdad, pero sí tengo que mencionar que esta es una muestra que no necesitas grandes efectos especiales, escenas de peleas o actores reconocidos mundialmente para hacer una buena película; no puedo decir que es una película de bajo presupuesto porque en lo absoluto no lo es pero es un film sencillo dónde toda la fuerza yace en su historia y cómo esta se desarrolla. Algo que amé y debo resaltar es el gran trabajo de Casting y Dirección de Arte que se realizó, la actriz que le da vida a Jeanne y a Nawal parecen madre e hija auténticamente, la vestimenta que usa Nawal durante su travesía es casi la misma que usa Jeanne e incluso Simon en su busqueda; la similitudes son increíbles y acertadas.
The film is a very dense journey, full of many details, information and even images that can be very emotional for a certain type of audience but also keeps you very captivated because you are interested in revealing the great mystery that is interwoven.
I will not comment more about the plot so that those who are going to see it, do not lose the surprise factor that gives the resolution of the conflict, the truth but I have to mention that this is a sample that you do not need great special effects, fight scenes or world renowned actors to make a good movie; I can not say it is a low budget film because it is not at all but it is a simple film where all the strength lies in its story and how it develops. Something I loved and I must highlight is the great Casting and Art Direction work that was done, the actress that gives life to Jeanne and Nawal look like mother and daughter authentically, the clothes that Nawal wears during her journey is almost the same that Jeanne wears and even Simon in his quest; the similarities are incredible and accurate.
El final se puede sentir un poco abierto o inconcluso, pero así es la vida, no se detiene solo por la resolución de un problema o conflicto porque así como ese, hay 30 más esperando en la puerta de tu casa; admito que cuando la pantalla pasó a negro y comenzaron a salir los créditos, me quedé pasmada un rato, estaba en shock porque aunque ya iba deduciendo lo que podía pasar debido a mis años estudiando análisis del cine, no pensé que me confirmarían esa teoría tan retorcida que construyó mi mente.
Si tengo que calificar esta película del 1 al 10 le daría un 9, no le doy el 10 porque sinceramente se me hizo algo pesada debido a lo larga y la cantidad de información que debes almacenar para resolver todo pero es una muy buena película y uno de los mejores giros de trama del cine contemporáneo.
The ending can feel a bit open or inconclusive, but that's life, it doesn't stop just for the resolution of a problem or conflict because just like that, there are 30 more waiting at your door; I admit that when the screen went black and the credits started to roll, I was stunned for a while, I was in shock because although I was already deducing what could happen due to my years studying film analysis, I didn't think that they would confirm that twisted theory that my mind built.
If I have to rate this movie from 1 to 10 I would give it a 9, I don't give it a 10 because honestly it was a bit heavy due to the length and the amount of information you have to store to solve everything but it is a very good movie and one of the best plot twists in contemporary cinema.

Es impresionante ver cómo una película puede mantenernos cautivados a través de su narrativa y el desarrollo de los personajes en lugar de depender de efectos especiales. Me parece interesante que la película explore temas tan importantes como la identidad y los secretos familiares, y que, a pesar de su complejidad, logre resonar en el espectador. 👍
Totalmente de acuerdo con tu comentario, a veces no se necesita de recursos ostentosos para hacer un buen producto pero Hollywood nos ha mal acostumbrado a eso; por esa razón he empezado a ver cine de otros países como por ejemplo el Frances, es un muy buen cine.
