One aspect in anime that I have always loved is when they include famous stories or legends from the west, but being a new version or views with the typical aesthetics and narrative of anime, this happens precisely with Shisha no Teikoku a film that uses the classic story of Victor Frankenstein and his monster as a background, along with a little Steampunk aesthetics, while being animated by Wit Studio which is among my favorite animation houses and always shows us an incredible level of animation, of great quality and with very impressive scenes and moments in terms of their details.
This story presents us a world where after Victor Frankenstein's experiments and his successful resurrection of a dead man, the society undertakes a constant race to recreate his experiment to perfection and although they have not managed to create life as Victor did, they have created a way to replace the soul of the person once dead and by means of a synthetic soul inserted with mechanical machinery, they manage to revive the dead but as Zombies, which according to the synthetic soul that they insert fulfill in a repetitive way with a task without fatigue and without objection, the perfect form of slavery with which now the economy of the world is based on Zombies.
Similarly now the wars are fought mostly with Zombie, once the soldiers die they are resurrected to return to the battlefield and although slower and rougher, they continue fighting while their brains are intact, seen in a certain way, the perfect control of governments over society and how even if you die you will continue fulfilling orders and serving your country, although they also manage to use them as weapons as was the case of the Russian government that implanted bombs in the zombies and in several moments we see how they explode in the middle of crowded places or chasing the protagonists.
The protagonist of this adventure will be John H Watson, a young scientist who clandestinely investigates the resurrection and seeks to replicate the result of Victor, in his laboratory inserts a synthetic soul and revives Friday a young man with light hair which can be noted that it is very important to John as well as being a person close to him, As the story progresses we see the closeness between the two and as well as Friday is a fundamental part of John's study of Victor's experiments, he was also the one who in a way proposed this whole experiment with the common goal of deciphering the secrets of the soul.
The story of this adventure is based on how although John tried to keep everything hidden, his talent is discovered by the British government who sends him to try to find Victor's lost notes to decipher all the secrets about the resurrection, they assign Burnaby a member of the British army to protect him along the way, although it is soon discovered that the secrets are not something they know how to keep very well in this adventure and several governments including the Russians who seek to stop them, as well as get hold of the notes, although it is never very clear who really are the villains of the adventure or what really are the intentions of Burnaby as well as the government on the notes.
Something that manages to draw a lot of attention in the stories although at the same time it also manages to create quite a lot of confusion, is the social and even philosophical background behind Victor's annotations and how the secret of the true resurrection can be seen in several ways, at the moment it seems that everyone wants to discover the secrets to perfect Victor's technique, But at the same time it seems that other characters manage to understand the meaning of the soul and how repeating Victor's experiment can be something negative for humanity, so they want to destroy them, while others think that they can be the only way to peace at the cost of murdering all of humanity so that once revived there is peace.
Visually Shisha no Teikoku is a very incredible film and that despite being 9 years old, being a work of Wit Studio shows very good scenes and details even for the time, the designs of the zombies manage to be quite striking and even a little disturbing in some cases, in addition to demonstrate in his face an empty and cold soul which in addition to feelings of absence, shows how they are focused on a single objective without any additional emotion, although it is not completely an action story, it has several scenes and moments really exciting and very entertaining, in addition to having very colorful and vibrant final scenes that highlight very well all the supernatural aspect that has the adventure near the end. Although in the same way there are several aspects that can be left in some doubt when dealing with deep issues such as the origin and meaning of the soul.

Un aspecto en los animes que siempre me ha encantado es cuando incluyen historias o leyendas famosas de occidente, pero siendo una nueva versión o vistas con la estética y narrativa típicas de los animes, esto precisamente sucede con Shisha no Teikoku una película que usa de trasfondo la historia clásica de Victor Frankenstein y su monstruo, junto con una estética un poco Steampunk, al mismo tiempo de ser animada por Wit Studio el cual esta entre mis casas animadoras favoritas y que siempre nos muestra un nivel de animación increíble, de gran calidad y con escenas y momentos muy impactantes en cuanto a sus detalles.
Esta historia nos presenta un mundo donde luego de los experimentos de Victor Frankenstein y su lograda resurrección de un muerto, la sociedad emprende una constante carrera por lograr recrear a la perfección su experimentó y aunque no han logrado crear vida como lo hizo Victor, han creado una forma de sustituir el alma de la persona una vez muerta y mediante un alma sintética insertada con maquinaria mecánica, logran revivir a la muertos pero como Zombies, los cuales según el alma sintética que le inserten cumplen de forma repetitiva con una tarea sin cansancio y sin objeción, la forma perfecta de esclavitud con la cual ahora la economía del mundo se basa en Zombies.
De igual forma ahora las guerras se libran en su mayoría con Zombie, una vez los soldados mueres son resucitados para volver al campo de batalla y aunque mas lentos y toscos, siguen luchando mientras su cerebro este intacto, visto de cierta forma, el control perfecto del los gobiernos sobre la sociedad y como aunque mueras seguirás cumpliendo ordenes y sirviendo a tu país, aunque también los logran usarlos como armas como fue el caso del gobierno ruso que implanto bombas en los zombies y en varios momentos vemos como explotan en medio de sitios concurridos o persiguiendo a los protagonistas.
El protagonista de esta aventura será John H Watson, un joven científico quien de forma clandestina investiga la resurrección y busca replicar el resultado de Víctor, en su laboratorio inserta un alma sintética y revive a Friday un joven de cabello claro el cual se puede notar que es muy importante para John además de ser una persona cercana a él, a medida que avanza la historia vemos la cercanía entre los dos y como además de que Friday es parte fundamental del estudio de John sobre los experimentos de Victor, también fue quien de cierta forma propuso todo este experimento con el objetivo en común de descifrar los secretos del alma.
La historia de esta aventura se basa en como aunque Jhon trataba de mantener todo oculto, su talento es descubierto por el gobierno Británico quien lo envía a tratar de encontrar las notas perdidas de Victor para con ello descifrar todos los secretos sobre la resurrección, le asignan a Burnaby un miembro del ejército británico para que lo proteja por el camino, aunque pronto se descubre que los secretos no son algo que sepan guardar muy bien en esta aventura y varios gobiernos entre ellos los rusos quienes buscaran detenerlos, así como también hacerse con las notas, aunque nunca queda muy en claro quienes realmente son los villanos de la aventura o cuales realmente son las intenciones de Burnaby así como el gobierno sobre las anotaciones.
Algo que logra llamar mucho la atención en la historias aunque al mismo tiempo también logra crear bastante confusión, es el trasfondo social y hasta filosófico que hay detrás de las anotaciones de Victor y como el secreto de la verdadera resurrección puede ser visto de varias formas, por momento parece que todos quieren descubrir los secretos para perfeccionar la técnica de Victor, pero al mismo tiempo parece que otros personajes logran entender el significado del alma y como repetir el experimento de Victor puede ser algo negativo para la humanidad por lo cual quieren destruirlas, mientas que otros piensan que las mismas pueden ser el único camino para la paz a costa de asesinar a toda la humanidad para una vez revivida exista la paz.
Visualmente Shisha no Teikoku es una película muy increíble y que a pesar de contar con 9 años de antigüedad la misma al tratarse de un trabajo de Wit Studio muestra escenas y detalles muy buenos incluso para la época, los diseños de los zombies logran ser bastante llamativos e incluso un poco perturbadores en algunos casos, además de demostrar en su rostro un alma vacía y fría la cual además de sentimientos de ausencia, demuestra cómo están enfocado a un único objetivo sin ninguna tipo de emoción adicional, aunque no es completamente una historia de acción, tiene varias escenas y momentos realmente emocionantes y muy entretenidos, además de contar con escenas finales muy coloridas y vibrantes que resaltan muy bien todo el aspecto sobrenatural que tiene la aventura cerca del final. Aunque del mismo modo hay varios aspectos que pueden llegar a quedar en cierta duda al tratar temas tan profundos como el origen y significado del alma
