CineTV Contest #62 // Condena y Football Brutal [Eng-Esp]

The theme of sport within the cinema seems very appropriate to me, because when there is a good story and it is interwoven with some sporting discipline that we like, the result can be one of those indelible memories in our lives. I reaffirm how much I like these contests in the film community and it is a pleasure to share my contribution; Here is the link: Contest. I must also admit that I know very little about American football, but I know that it is a sport with a lot of physical contact, so the movie that immediately came to my mind was "Lock Up" or "Brutal Condemnation", as it was known in my country at the beginning of the 90s.

Me parece muy acertada la temática del deporte dentro del cine, porque cuando hay una buena historia y ésta se entreteje con alguna disciplina deportiva que sea de nuestro agrado, el resultado puede ser uno de esos recuerdos imborrables en nuestras vidas. Reafirmo lo mucho que me gustan estos concursos en la comunidad cinéfila y es todo un placer compartir mi aporte; acá te dejo el enlace: Contest. Debo también reconocer que conozco muy poco sobre el football americano, pero sé que es un deporte de mucho contacto físico, así que la película que llegó a mi mente de inmediato fue "Lock Up" o "Condena Brutal", como se le conoció en mi país a inicio de los años 90.

However, although I already knew that in a football or rugby game there can be some blows and clashes between the players, that game between a prison inmate, (imagine those) a group of violent people "playing" a violent sport stuck with me. ha ha ha. It was total madness and to top it off there was mud on the track, where the participants could hit each other with practically no rules. Hence, the title of the film for Latin America seemed very appropriate to me, because it was literally something brutal. Of course, Sylvester Stallone did a good job playing Frank Leone.

Sin embargo, aunque ya sabía que en un partido de football o rugby puede haber algunos golpes y choques entre los jugadores, me quedó grabado aquel partido entre reos de una cárcel, (imaginen aquello) un grupo de personas violentas "jugando" un deporte violento ja,ja,ja. Era la locura total y para colmo había lodo en la pista, donde los participantes podían golpearse prácticamente sin reglas. De allí que se me hacía muy acordé el título de la cinta para Hispanoamérica, porque era literalmente algo brutal. Por supuesto, Sylvester Stallone hizo un buen papel interpretando a Frank Leone.

Of course, if I had to choose a specific sport to review a film, I would do it with tennis or table tennis; since they are the ones that I am most passionate about. But rugby is the closest thing to American football, so it seemed good to choose this option. Also due to the fact that it is a classic film and the performances are well remembered for the excellent work they did. How can we forget the evil director of the prison, played by Donald Sutherland? Or the character Sonny Landhan played, whose attitude was totally wild on and off the field.

Claro, si tuviese que escoger algún deporte en específico para reseñar un filme, lo haría con el tenis o el tenis de mesa; dado que son los que más me apasionan. Pero el rugby es lo más parecido al football americano, así que me pareció bien escoger esta opción. También por el hecho que es una cinta clásica y las actuaciones son muy recordadas por el excelente trabajo que hicieron. ¿Cómo olvidar al malvado director de la prisión, interpretado por Donald Sutherland? O al personaje que hizo Sonny Landhan, cuya actitud era totalmente salvaje dentro y fuera del campo.

The funny thing is that the film is not about anything sporting, but the game between convicts was so violent that after more than 30 years I still remember it. The quarterback gave the call for serve and immediately followed by a right hand UFC style ha ha ha. I can't imagine a duel between teams where there are no rules and the strongest will prevail; the recreational encounter between prisoners is not the central plot, but it is something that left me a kind of paradigm and that is why I select it for this contest ha ha ha.

But also, because in sport there must be justice and that happens towards the end of the film. After seeing so many inhumane punishments, a light is glimpsed at the end of the road and then those who appeared to be very brave end up being, at the moment of truth, cowards incapable of resisting the punishments that they themselves imposed. It's very easy to give orders with a gun in hand, right? The truth is that with football, the difference is that they do use personal protection implements, to mitigate the blows a bit and give us a sense of security. Therefore, if one day I dare to play it, the helmet cannot be missing.

Lo curioso es que la película no se trata de nada deportivo, pero es que fue tan violento aquel partido librado entre convictos, que después de más de 30 años todavía lo recuerdo. El mariscal de campo daba la voz de saque y acto seguido venía un derechazo al estilo UFC ja,ja,ja. No puedo imaginar un duelo entre equipos donde no hay reglas y que el más fuerte sea el que prevalezca; el encuentro recreativo entre reos no es la trama central, pero si es algo que me dejó una especie de paradigma y por eso la selecciono para este concurso ja,ja,ja.

Pero también, porque en el deporte debe haber justicia y eso sucede hacia el final de la película. Después de ver tantos castigos inhumanos, se deja entrever una luz al final del camino y entonces los que aparentaban ser muy valientes, terminan siendo a la hora de la verdad,unos cobardes incapaces de resistir los castigos que ellos mismos imponían. Es muy fácil dar órdenes con un arma en la mano ¿Verdad? Lo cierto es que con el football, la diferencia es que ellos si usan implementos de protección personal, para mitigar un poco los golpes y nos da una sensación de seguridad. Por ello, si algún día me atrevo a jugarlo, el casco no puede faltar.
