Gravity: la fantascienza umanistica di Alfonso Cuarónis

If you think that action movies are limited to a series of explosions, chases and shootings, you are greatly mistaken. There are action films that manage to combine the fast pace and adrenaline with philosophical depth and reflection on the universal themes of human existence. One of these films is Gravity, directed by Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón, which won over audiences and critics in 2013, winning 7 Oscars out of 10 nominations. Gravity tells the story of two astronauts, Ryan Stone (played by Sandra Bullock) and Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney), who find themselves wandering in space after an accident that destroyed their shuttle. Without contact with Earth and with few resources available, the two must face a series of challenges to try to survive and return home. However, Gravity is not just a survival film in space, but also a masterpiece of science fiction realism that shows with great attention to detail the physical and psychological conditions of the astronauts, the technical difficulties and the visual wonders of space. In addition, it is a philosophical film that explores the themes of resilience, inner strength, faith and rebirth.

Gravity has managed to combine these three dimensions: action, genre and philosophy, creating a unique and engaging work. The film keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat from beginning to end, thanks to the masterful direction of Alfonso Cuarón, who has created constant tension and increasing suspense. The opening scene, shot with a camera that moves freely in space, follows the movements of the astronauts and shows their perspectives. The result is a feeling of vertigo and total immersion in space, which is abruptly interrupted by the arrival of debris that destroys the shuttle and separates them. The film is also a technical masterpiece that required years of work and research to faithfully recreate the conditions of space, the effects of zero gravity, the movements of objects and bodies, sounds and lights. Gravity won 7 Oscars, including those for best special effects, best cinematography, best editing, best sound and best sound editing. Gravity is a science fiction realism film genre, meaning a genre based on scientifically plausible and realistic elements without resorting to fantastic or imaginary elements. The film shows with great realism and attention to detail the physical and psychological conditions of astronauts in space, technical difficulties and visual wonders of space. In addition, the film explores scientific implications as well as ethical and social implications of human presence in space by asking questions such as: what does it mean to be human in space? What is the relationship between man and nature in space? What is the role of science and technology in space? What is the meaning of life in space? The film does not give definitive answers to these questions but leaves it up to viewers to interpret and reflect on their own experiences and beliefs.

Ho visto il film, non sapevo avesse tanti riconoscimenti, anche gli artisti che impersonano gli astronauti sono di qualità
