Bueno, es un poco obvio que este es el cuarto de año que más disfruto, tanto porque diciembre y las festividades me encantan, como por lo nostálgico que se vuelve noviembre, y por lo divertido que es octubre. Además de eso, tengo rato diciendo que octubre está por venir y con esto viene la mejor temporada de películas, las películas de terror. Esto porque por estadística, el género que más se toma en cuenta a la hora de hacer cine es el de terror, y, por supuesto, es uno de mis géneros favoritos; esto ya lo saben, y seguro, saben que a partir de aquí vienen solo recomendaciones de terror. Esta, en particular, es sobre películas que tienen un final devastador:

Well, it's a little obvious that this is the quarter of the year I enjoy the most, both because I love December and the holidays, and because of how nostalgic November becomes, and how fun October is. On top of that, I've been saying for a while that October is coming and with it comes the best movie season, horror movies. This is because by statistics, the genre that is most taken into account when it comes to movies is horror, and, of course, it is one of my favorite genres; this you already know, and sure, you know that from here on, only horror recommendations are coming. This one, in particular, is about movies that have a devastating ending:

La Niebla

La Niebla es, posiblemente, una mala película. La he visto varias veces y mi cerebro quiere pensar que es una buena película, esto por su increíble final, pero más allá de eso siento que es una película muy normalita. Sin embargo, el final de la niebla es uno de los mejores finales que he visto en el cine, tan devastador que el mismo Stephen King dijo que se sentía un poco celoso de no haber pensado en ese final para el material original. Y realmente, que alguien como Stephen King no haya podido tener la crueldad como para hacer un final como ese, ya dice mucho de este final que, si no has visto la niebla, vale completamente la experiencia.

The Mist

The Mist is possibly a bad movie. I've seen it several times and my brain wants to think it's a good movie, this because of its incredible ending, but beyond that I feel it's a very average movie. However, the foggy ending is one of the best endings I've ever seen on film, so devastating that Stephen King himself said he felt a little jealous that he hadn't thought of that ending for the source material. And really, that someone like Stephen King couldn't have had the cruelty to make an ending like that, says a lot about this ending that, if you haven't seen The Mist, it's completely worth the experience.

Horas de terror

está en algún momento llegó a ser mi película favorita, y es que poco a poco Haneke se volvió uno de mis directores favoritos también. Tanto en la funny games original como en su remake estadounidense, Haneke muestra los horrores que vive una familia al ser secuestrada por un par de jóvenes que al parecer solo quiere divertirse haciendo sufrir a las personas. Esto, que es una situación horrible per se, termina siendo aún peor ya para el último cuarto de la película, dónde se nos releva uno de los plot twist más inesperados que nos ha dejado el cine, a pesar de que Haneke planteó casi desde el principio de la cinta este final. Una historia que es contada de forma tan cruda que no puedes hacer más que mirar y esperar lo peor, para que, sin darte cuenta, te den algo que es mucho peor que eso que imaginas. Simplemente, me encantaría hablar por mucho tiempo sobre Funny games y esa escena que es icónica, pero por si alguno no la ha visto, pues simplemente me queda recomendar y esperar que la vean.

Funny Games

This at some point became my favorite movie, and little by little Haneke became one of my favorite directors as well. Both in the original funny games and in its American remake, Haneke shows the horrors of a family being kidnapped by a couple of young men who apparently just want to have fun making people suffer. This, which is a horrible situation per se, ends up being even worse for the last quarter of the film, where we are relieved one of the most unexpected plot twists that cinema has left us, although Haneke raised almost from the beginning of the film this ending. A story that is told in such a crude way that you can only watch and expect the worst, so that, without realizing it, you are given something that is much worse than what you imagine. Simply put, I would love to talk for a long time about Funny games and that iconic scene, but in case anyone hasn't seen it, I can only recommend it and hope you do.

Mártires

the substance está dando mucho de qué hablar y antes de esta, Titane, y esto porque el cine gore francés siempre ha sido otro tipo de cine, siempre ha elevado los niveles a unos límites muy interesantes, pero la verdad es que nunca llegó a ser tan visceral y fuerte como con Martyrs y no solo por su final, el cuál es uno de los que más grima me ha dado, sino por toda la historia que, sin mentir, puede ser demasiado para varias personas; incluso creo que para mí.

Martyrs

The substance is giving a lot to talk about and before this, Titane, and this because French gore cinema has always been another kind of cinema, it has always raised the levels to very interesting limits, but the truth is that it has never been as visceral and strong as with Martyrs and not only for its ending, which is one of the ones that has given me the most fear, but for the whole story that, without lying, can be too much for several people; even for me, I think.
