Escape Room Tournament of Champions:(Review)

Source

I love watching a good puzzle film, whether it’s a murder mystery or an escape room. I really enjoyed the first Escape Room because of its interesting traps and well-developed backstory for the characters. When I saw Escape Room: Tournament of Champions on Netflix, I had to give it a go to see if it held up to the first.

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions is the sequel to the box office hit psychological thriller that terrified audiences around the world. In this installment, six people unwittingly find themselves locked in another series of escape rooms, slowly uncovering what they have in common to survive and discovering they've all played the game before.

The film follows the two survivors from the first movie as they unknowingly find themselves in another deadly situation. This time, they’re surrounded by other champions from previous games, forced to endure a new series of escape rooms designed to torment them for the captors' enjoyment. These rooms include an electrified train, a New York City strip with acid rain, and a quicksand-filled beach. The puzzles were as engaging as ever, with each room offering unique challenges. The story itself was great, the characters were mostly fleshed out, and I found the twist at the end really interesting—it fit well within the premise and added depth to the narrative.

The cinematography of the film is exceptionally aesthetic, capturing your attention and making it a joy to watch. Its uniqueness and near perfection lie in the meticulous details and the way specific moments are highlighted. I particularly admire how the camera moves so smoothly, complemented by simple yet effective transitions. Additionally, the use of a formal video ratio enhances the overall quality, making the film even more impressive.

I felt they would have done better with the plots though aside that I think it's a really good film.

I'll rate it a 6/10👍
