ATLAS... A newly released Jennifer Lopez Sci-fi.
Wait... So y'all already know that Jennifer Lopez isn't just a musician. For real? Where have I been all these years? Haha.
I was digging through recently released Movies to see what I would pick for a Movie night when I came across this and it completely got me captivated at first sight. For the record, I'm not a big fan of sci-fi and I don't think I've seen any sci-fi that made me scream "Yeah!!!". Nonetheless, when I saw that Jennifer Lopez was boldly written on the poster for the Movie, I immediately became curious.
Is that supposed to be a publicity stunt? Could that be the same Jennifer Lopez I know?
My curiosity got heightened and I got answers almost immediately. It turned out that Jennifer Lopez has been very active in the acting industry and she has featured in a lot of Movies. Well, I'm kinda late to her Movie projects but I finally got to watch one which happen to be her latest Movie project.
Movie: Atlas
Genre: Sci-fi
Release Date: May 24, 2024
Runtime: 1h 58m
This was released just a few days ago and netizens seem to be bashing the Movie with generic statements like "this is so cliche" and "there is nothing new about this storyline". Some even say this Movie Script is AI-generated. Lol. Now, that's one heck of a thing to say and it doesn't help that the storyline is themed around human coexistence with AI, AI attacks, and stuff like that.
Thank goodness though. I started seeing all these negative comments when I've already watched the movie. So, I know what I think of the story and it isn't based on what every other netizen is saying about it. For the real, a lot of the hate that this Movie is getting seems to be directed towards Jennifer Lopez, and to be fair with y'all, she didn't commit any blunder in her acting. If anything, having her as the lead character is one of the major selling point for this Movie.
The Movie itself gives a premise of an AI robot that went rogue, took full control of its own mind and actions, and subsequently started raining hell on humans. It caused enough damage before disappearing from the planet. On the human side of the story, we are introduced to a highly intelligent data analyst, played by Jennifer Lopez, who has her own history with AIs. This made her have a very big distrust towards AIs.
She embarks on a journey with some other agents to capture the AI that went rogue but they got ambushed before they could even start their attack. As a survivor, she's left with the option of working together with an AI robot to finish the mission. Well, as you already know, she just doesn't trust AIs, especially the ones that are programmed to dig through people's minds.
You can imagine how this adventure of hers with the AI would be. The official trailer for the Movie should give you the adrenaline pump you need to decide if it's worth adding to your watchlist or not.
In my case, this is the first AI/Human coexistence Movie I've seen that has this storyline. So, I don't see it as a cliche or regurgitation of an already existing Movie idea. It seems like the scriptwriter is pro-AI though. The story was geared to make people fall in love with Artificial Intelligence Robots.
My major concern is that this was meant to be an action movie but it's just robots knocking each other around while the characters who are obviously not fit for combat appear to just sit in their robots and let the robot do the fighting. The fighting scenes didn't excite me. I prefer to see humans who are fit for combat go punch for punch in a well-choreographed fighting sequence. Big ups to Simu Liu for giving us a small taste of that in this Movie.
I already know what I like to see in fighting scenes so I'm not disappointed about the fighting scenes in this Movie. I wasn't expecting some Kung Fu Ninja shit. This sorta explains why I don't have any high-tech influenced fight scenes in the list of top fight scenes I've seen in Movies.
Jennifer Lopez though. I may have to check out more of her Movie projects before giving an opinion about her acting in general.
Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop or Comma.
