Serving up Suspense - Review for "The Menu" (2022 Mystery, Thriller Movie) - My Rating 7.5

I am a movie lover. But given the fact that I do not see movies very often, I like to carefully select the ones that I do watch.

The best ones (according to my taste), I review them here!

Hive has two amazing communities where you can find plenty of movies information if you are interested in reading more movies reviews (links at the bottom)

The Menu - serving up some extra suspense!

It's genre?

I would say:
Thriller, and mystery with a few dark humor elements.

Starring:

Ralph Fiennes as Chef Slowik
Anya Taylor-Joy as Margot
Nicholas Hoult as Tyler
Director - Mark Mylod

Who is it for?

If you like very fast movies, with lots of effects, actions and gunshots - maybe you will not enjoy this one. The Menu has a few slow moments (mostly during the first 20 minutes or so), until the viewer understands exactly what this is about. As the story goes on, elements reveal themselves one by one.. And some of them are really unexpected.

The story

We see a young couple who are boarding on a ship, invited (among others) to a private islet, in order to dine to an exclusive restaurant.

Every dish is very carefully prepared, to the tiniest detail. But with every dish, a new secret is revealed.

The girl has taken the place of someone else, and this created some additional issues. All of the guests have been invited to serve a special cause. But the girl was not supposed to be there in the first place. What does it mean? How will it affect the story's outcome?

I enjoyed watching it. New facts are revealed during the movie, so the viewer has the possibility to wonder, to guess, to imagine.

There is suspense & agony - with an ending I enjoyed a lot.

I would put it a genuine 7.5.

Overall: "The Menu" is a must-see culinary thriller with a peculiar aftertaste.

p.s. If I give out more information, it will be a spoiler and I really would not want that for you!

I think you will enjoy the trailer, which will give you an idea of what to expect!

Have you seen this? If yes, I would love to know your opinion!

Thanks for visiting!

Thanks for your recommendations. I prefer slower movies - sometimes I think there are more effects than plot.

I like this one, though I’m not sure if I really enjoyed it, I was pretty uncomfortable from time to time. I think I don't like the idea of the chef being the bad guy hahaha But I did like how the girl thing turned out, I didn't expect it and I think it made a lot of sense.

Yes, there were some unsettling moments also for me, but overall it was an interesting scenario - well played by the actors
