Feel the magic of Christmas

Christmas films are a tricky business, which can be turned off by infantile or funny violence, but there are some films that have the magic of the world and know how to tell a story.

The Holdovers from 2023 shows that if you have a good idea you can make a great Christmas film, and it can be serious at the same time.
If you're expecting violence or silly comedy, you've come to the wrong place: this is comedy, but delivered in such a way that the viewer can take a moment to catch his breath.

In the film, we meet an elderly teacher who teaches history at a wealthy school. He is a very demanding teacher to the point that no student likes him and neither do the teachers. When the holidays and Christmas break are approaching, he will have to spend this time at school together with some students who are not going to their parents.
While the first half of the film is humorous and often makes you smile, the second half of the film introduces the two opposing sides of the story: on the one hand, the gruff and pedantic teacher, and on the other hand, the student who keeps getting expelled from various schools. Despite their many differences, they find that they have more in common than they thought. The film is a kind of journey of two characters who try to understand the other person and how they see the world.

It is a film about loneliness shown from different perspectives as the characters try to cope with it and how strongly they feel the meaninglessness of everyday life.
The director, slowly dosing successive elements, which turn from a comedy into a sadder and sadder picture, to finally give a substitute of magic to the world in his own way.
Although the film lasts almost 140 minutes, it is not boring and the characters act as the audience is interested in their fate and what will happen next.
Each of the actors here plays very convincingly, even the lady who played the cook has a masterful performance.

On the one hand, it is the most festive film you can imagine and you can feel the magic here; on the other hand, it is devoid of mindless violence and infantilism, so it may not be to everyone's taste.

8/10 I think it's worth it, especially as it's set in 1970 and the years in question have been nicely reflected and you can escape for a moment in a kind of vehicle to those years.

The Holdovers z 2023 roku pokazuje, ze jeśli ma się dobry pomysł to można zrobić świetny film świąteczny, a przy tym potrafi być poważny.
Jeśli spodziewacie się przemocy czy głupkowatej komedii to trafiliście złe tutaj jest komedia, jednak podana w taki sposób by widz mógł chwile nabrać powietrza.

W filmie poznajemy starszego nauczyciela, który uczy w zamożnej szkole historii. Jest to nauczyciel bardzo wymagający do takiego stopnia, ze żaden uczeń go nie lubi jak i nauczyciele. Kiedy zbliżają się święta i czas przerwy świątecznej będzie musiał spędzić ten czas w szkole wraz z kilkoma uczniami którzy nie wyjeżdżają do rodziców.
O ile pierwsza połowa jest humorystyczna i często można uśmiechnąć się, tak druga połowa to poznanie dwóch przeciwnych stron z jednej strony gburowaty wiecznie pedantyczny nauczyciel z drugiej uczeń, ktory ciagle zostaje wyrzucony z różnych szkół. Mimo wielu przeciwności zauważają ze łączy ich więcej niż myśleli. Film jest swoista podróżą dwóch bohaterów, którzy probuja zrozumieć druga osoba i to jak postrzegają świat.

To film o samotności pokazany z różnej perspektywy jak bohaterowie próbują sobie z nią radzić jak mocno odczuwają bezsens codzienności.
Reżyser, powoli dawkuje kolejne elementy, które z komedii zamieniają się w coraz smutniejszy obraz by ostatecznie dać namiastkę magii świat na swój sposób.
Film mimo, ze trwa blisko 140 minut nie nudzi, a bohaterowie sprawują się jako widzowie interesujemy się ich losami i co się wydarzy dalej.
Każdy z aktorów gra tutaj bardzo przekonująco nawet pani co grała kucharke zagrała tutaj mistrzowsko.

Z jednej strony jest to najbardziej świąteczny film jaki możecie sobie wyobrazić i czuć tutaj ta magię z drugiej zaś jest on pozbawionej bezmyślnej przemocy jak i tej infantylności wiec nie każdemu moze przypaść do gustu.

8/10 Uważam, ze warto tym bardziej, ze akcja dzieje się w 1970 roku i fajnie tutaj zostały odzwierciedlone dane lata i można na moment uciec swoistym wehikułem do tamtych lat.
