How My Childhood Experiences Sparked my Love for Technology

I was proviledged to be born and raised in the early 2000s, a time when the world was becoming increasingly modernized, and technology was rapidly becoming more accessible .

The first form of technology I could remember i witnessed was the hunched-back television we had in our house. It was nothing like the flat screens we see everywhere today, but back then, it was a big deal. I still remember how we would buy DVDs and excitedly load them into our DVD player. We would gather around to watch the mysterious and action-packed movies featuring my favorite actors, Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Those guys were everything to me back then. In fact, Jackie Chan is still one of my top actors even now. He brought so much excitement and joy to my childhood, and made it memorable and a lot more fun.

I also had a soft spot for Indian movies. Krrish was one that left a lasting impression on me. As a kid, I was so captivated by his superpowers that I genuinely believed that if I could just find the right black coat, I could leap into the air and fly just like him. I remember running around, pretending to have those incredible abilities, thinking that with the right outfit, anything was possible. It’s funny how those movies made me believe that I could be a superhero if I just tried hard enough.

But as much as I loved those moments, that wasn’t what sparked my love for technology. It all began when my oldest brother, who was studying in Russia, came back to Nigeria for a visit. He brought home an Apple laptop, something that felt almost different to me at that time since I never saw one before. I was so curious about it that I bombarded him with questions about what he was using it for. That was when I found out he was working on creating his own website and was working as Dj, which blew my mind.

He never locked his laptop, so one day, when he wasn’t around, I couldn’t resist the urge to check it out for myself. As someone who loved playing games,I just decided to search for games on the laptop and that was when I stumbled upon GTA San andreas. I spent hours playing these video game, especially when he wasn’t around. I loved the fun of stealing cars, causing chaos on the streets, fighting the police with different weapons, and exploring the open world of the game. I even found myself driving into the waters just to see if I could escape from being arrested for all the crimes I committed. It was like a whole new world opened up to me, and I couldn’t get enough of it.

Playing GTA wasn’t just about having fun, for me. It was the first time I really started to appreciate what technology could do. Even though I didn’t fully understand what it was at the time, I knew I was falling in love with it and was happy playing the game.

It’s funny how I used to drive into water intentionally sometimes. Especially when I was lost but that game is really smart that you will have to drive your way out and find your way, except you die and then the game lets you get on the road after a 2seconds reload.

Driving in the water was actually fun at times I can't lie.
