Thinking about music from the 80s, Squid Game Season 2, and typhoons in the Philippines.
*This social commentary really captured a heartbreaking story almost in real time, which helped it become an iconic song featuring the legendary Bob Geldof. Art captured life in this masterpiece.
Mondays
Hello Hiveans! I hope that you are all doing well. Mondays can be a drag. When it is like this the 1979 song "I don't like Mondays" begin playing in my head. This usually happens when I'm stuck in traffic somewhere or if I'm stuck with work or a project that can't seem to take off.
The song itself has a horrible incident for an inspiration but music legend Bob Geldof himself had an interesting story of how it came to be written. So, their band the Boomtown Rats were invited by Steve Jobs for a gig at Apple and they were doing an interview at Georgia State's campus radio station when the fax machine beside him began printing.
He read about the Grover Cleveland Elementary School shooting as the paper was coming out of the fax and thought that the "silicon chip inside her head had switched to overload" (referring the 16-year-old Brenda Spencer who went on a shooting spree that killed 8 children, 2 adults and one police officer), which became the famous first line of the ballad. He then wrote on a piece of paper that he didn't like Monday (in reference to reason why the unremorseful Spencer's reason for the shooting where I think she said that she didn't like that it was a boring Monday.) and the journalist interviewing him (this might be at the hotel already or somewhere else, I'm not sure) asked why he wrote that and said, "tell me why?", which also became part of the lyrics.
Anyways, Mondays can be a drag but let's not turn it into something worse by being rude to other drivers on the road or be the professor every student hates, you know what I mean...
The Return
Squids
I'm now watching the hit Netflix series "Sqiud Game" again. I saw that Season 2 will be coming out next month (December 26) so I thought it would be good to revisit the 1st season.
Seeing it again after a while, Lee Jung-jae's acting was phenomenal in this series. In my view, He portrayed player 456 perfectly. He was relatable. He was expressive. He was experiencing the worst in life. In short, he showed what it was like to be human.
Some of my favorite Korean actors were also in the series: Gong Yoo, Wi Ha-joon, Lee You-mi, and of course Lee Byung-hun. It was an awesome collection of great actors to say the least. In short, this could seriously turn out better than Season 1.
Endings
To conclude, there is another typhoon in the country and classes are already cancelled in many parts of the country. But what can schools do? It's a matter of safety versus missing school for a day. In some areas, this is a big deal because children have to cross rivers to be able to reach the school. So when there is a typhoon, the rivers swell and the current increases making it really dangerous for the kiddos.
That's it for today's blog. Thanks for taking the time to drop by and visit my blog. I hope that you are safe and doing well wherever you are in the world.
Love and peace,
