[Movie review] [Eng | Esp] Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical
Welcome my dear internet travelers and thank you very much for making a temporary stop in my post, I am not the biggest fan of musicals or remakes, of the former because I hate that many times the songs are boring and do not convey anything, and Secondly, because in most cases only the original work is sullied, it is because of all the above that I did not really want to see “Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical” but despite everything I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and delve into its history. Without further ado, get ready for many farting musicals because we are about to begin.
Bienvenidos mis queridos viajeros del internet y muchas gracias por hacer hecho una parada temporal en mi post, no soy el mayor fanático de los musicales ni de los remakes, de los primeros porque detesto que muchas veces las canciones sean aburridas y no transmitan nada, y, lo segundo, debido a que en la mayoría de los casos solo se mancillan la obra original, es por todo lo anterior que no tenía muchas ganas de ver “Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical” pero pese a todo decidí darle el beneficio de la duda y adentrarme en su historia. Sin más que agregar prepárense para muchos musicales pedorros pues estamos por comenzar.
Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical was released in 2022, it is based on the novel “Matilda” published in 1988 by Roald Dahl, directed by Matthew Warchus, produced by TriStar Pictures and Working Title Films, it has a duration of 1 hour and 57 minutes. It is a musical comedy, the story focuses on Matilda, a prodigy girl who is mistreated at home, later, when she starts school, she is also mistreated there by her director who is completely unpleasant, however, thanks to her great intellect she develops mental powers which she will use to change her situation and have people close to her who love her like Miss Honey.
Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical fue estrenada en 2022, se basa en la novela “Matilda” publicada en 1988 por Roald Dahl, dirigida por Matthew Warchus, producida por TriStar Pictures y Working Title Films, cuenta con una duración de 1 hora y 57 minutos. Es una comedia musical, la historia se centra en Matilda, una niña prodigio que es maltratada en su casa, posteriormente, cuando inicia la escuela, también es maltratada allí por su directora que es completamente desagradable, no obstante, gracias a su gran intelecto desarrolla poderes mentales los cuales utilizará para cambiar su situación y tener cerca a personas que si la amen como la señorita Honey.

The soundtrack is pretty boring most of the time, a lot of the songs don't really add anything, they just sing along without adding anything to the plot in most cases, so it feels like a waste of time; The choreographies, on the other hand, are well done and pleasant.
La banda sonora es bastante aburrida la mayoría del tiempo, muchas de las canciones no aportan nada realmente, solo cantan sin más sin añadir nada a la trama en la mayoría de los casos, por lo que se siente como una pérdida de tiempo; las coreografías por su parte si están bien hechas y son agradables.
The construction of the world seeks to be something gloomy for some reason, it tries to make its settings look dark for no apparent reason because in the long run they don't really contribute anything, you can't expect much from this section in a musical comedy but its decision Because the darkness is only to show the “change” at the end, nothing to really highlight.
La construcción del mundo busca ser algo lúgubre por algún motivo, intenta hacer lucir sus escenarios de forma oscura sin razón aparente debido a que estos a la larga no aportan realmente nada, no se puede esperar mucho de este apartado en una comedia musical pero su decisión por lo oscuro es únicamente para mostrar el “cambio” al final, nada que destacar realmente.
The plot is terribly boring, I don't just say the above because of the inclusion of the musicals, but throughout it it just feels like a nonsense that goes nowhere, to this is added the fact that that its comedic moments are non-existent so it does not lack that comic relief that would have made it more enjoyable. Narratively it is a disaster, many of the twists feel forced because there is no proper anticipation of them, so things only feel forced in, the same goes for the character interactions, on the other hand, the fact that it tells 2 stories is a shot in the foot because both have many flaws, the worst thing is that the second adds almost nothing to the plot and is just an unnecessary waste of time. It is almost 2 hours long, which is not exaggerated for the content it has, however, it does not know how to dose its time, so many things that were present in the original film are ignored, some being crucial pieces to make sense of it tape.
La trama es terriblemente aburrida, lo anterior no solo lo digo por el hecho de la inclusión de los musicales, sino que a lo largo de esta solo se siente como un despropósito que no va a ningún lado, a esto se le suma el hecho de que sus momentos de comedia son inexistentes por lo que no se carece de ese alivio cómico que hubiese permitido hacerla más agradable. Narrativamente es un desastre, muchos de los giros se sienten forzados debido a que no existe una correcta anticipación de los mismos, por lo que las cosas solo se sienten introducidas a la fuerza, lo mismo pasa con las interacciones de los personajes, por otro lado, el hecho de que cuente 2 historias es un tiro en el pie debido a que ambas tienen muchos fallos, lo peor es que la segunda no aporta casi nada a la trama y es solo un gasto de tiempo innecesario. Posee casi 2 horas de duración, lo que no es exagerado para el contenido que tiene, sin embargo, no sabe dosificar su tiempo, por lo que muchas cosas que estuvieron presentes en el filme original son obviadas, siendo algunas piezas cruciales para darle sentido a la cinta.
Matilda, what did they do with you? For some reason, the tender girl who tries to improve her life is transformed into someone unpleasant who focuses more on revenge than on being a girl. Although her actions could be justified, they do not have that innocent touch that could only come from the hand of a child so he feels strange, in turn, for some reason there is an exaggerated focus on his powers by giving him unnecessary prominence. The interactions she should have with her friends are eliminated, which makes her seem even more depressing unnecessarily. The same thing happens with Honey, the relationship that arises between the two does not feel natural because they have very few moments of closeness, In turn, the latter only limits herself to being faint-hearted and pathetic, losing that focus of doing something to improve her life. In fact, the final redemption of the character seen in the original film is completely lost here, leaving an unsatisfactory outcome for this character.
Matilda ¿Qué hicieron contigo? Por algún motivo la niña tierna que intenta mejorar su vida es transformada en alguien desagradable que se concentra más en la venganza que en ser una niña, si bien sus acciones podrían ser justificadas estas no tienen ese toque inocente que solo podría venir de la mano de un niño por lo que se siente extraño, a su vez, por algún motivo existe un enfoque exagerado por sus poderes al darle un protagonismo innecesario. Las interacciones que debería de tener con sus amigos son eliminadas por lo que la hace ver aún más deprimente sin necesidad, lo mismo sucede con Honey, la relación que surge entre ambas no se siente natural debido a que tienen muy pocos momentos de acercamiento, a su vez, esta última solo se limita a ser pusilánime y patética, perdiendo ese enfoque de hacer algo por mejorar su vida, de hecho, la redención final del personaje que se ve en el filme original aquí pierde completamente, dejando un desenlace insatisfactorio para este personaje.
The antagonists are pathetic and flanderized in a stupid way, Matilda's parents are the best example, they are presented as complete idiots with poop for brains, with this I do not mean that in the original film they were gems but at least they had a minimum interesting personality, eliminating Matilda's brother was not a smart idea either because comic relief was lost, on the other hand, Trunchbull completely loses that presence as a villain, she feels more like someone pathetic and resentful than like a threat to children, The sinister presence of the character is completely lost and only leaves a fragile remains with an inferiority complex, this being a total failure because the fact that she is truly evil is important to the plot, in this case, many things lose value.
Los antagonistas son patéticos y flanderizados de forma estúpida, los padres de Matilda son el mejor ejemplo, se plantean como unos completos imbéciles con caca por cerebro, con esto no quiero decir que en el filme original fueran unas joyas pero por lo menos tenían un mínimo de personalidad interesante, eliminar al hermano de Matilda tampoco fue una idea inteligente debido a que se perdió alivio cómico, por otro lado, Trunchbull pierde completamente esa presencia como villana, se siente más como alguien patética y resentida que como una amenaza para los niños, la presencia siniestra del personaje se pierde completamente y solo deja un despojo frágil con complejo de inferioridad, siendo esto un fracaso total debido a que el hecho de que sea verdaderamente malvada es importante para la trama, en este caso, muchas cosas pierden valor.
Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical has no reason to exist, it seems that its main focus was not only to change the appearance of the characters but also their personalities, it limits the interactions between them which prevents their relationships from having true value, in turn, It eliminates important parts that appeared in both the book and the original film that are crucial to understanding the final outcome and making sense of it. It is for all of the above that it deserves 1 star out of 7, musicals and remakes do not mix under any circumstances, better watch the 90s classic to see something well done.
Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical no tiene razón de ser, pareciese que su principal enfoque fuese no solo cambiar el aspecto de los personajes sino también sus personalidades, limita las interacciones entre estos lo que impide que sus relaciones tengan un verdadero valor, a su vez, elimina partes importantes que aparecieron tanto el libro como en el filme original que son cruciales para poder entender el desenlace final y que este tenga sentido. Es por todo lo anterior que merece 1 estrella de 7, los musicales y los remakes no se mezclan bajo ningún concepto, mejor vean el clásico de los 90 para ver algo bien hecho.

Nunca llamo mi atención está nueva versión de Matilda musical y leyendo tu reseña me terminó de convencer y no arrepentirme de no haberla visto, no cambio a mi Matilda de los 90 😀 Gracias por compartir tu excelente reseña.
