[Movie review] [Eng | Esp] The Wicker Man | Small town big hell

Welcome my dear Celts internet travelers and thank you very much for having made a temporary stop in my post, I have already mentioned it before and I will continue saying it, there are actors who sell because just because their name is in a film it is already curious to see what project was involved, some have maintained that status and others lost their moment, I'll leave it up to you to choose which group Nicola Cage belongs to, the thing is that the film that brings us together today "The Wicker Man" focused on mystery and a town Strange, the fact that he starred in it made me curious. Without further ado, get ready to go to a town away from everything because we are about to begin.

The Wicker Man was released in 2006, it is based on its namesake released in 1973, the film was directed by Neil LaBute and produced by Alcon Entertainment and Saturn Films, it has a duration of 1 hour and 42 minutes. It is a dramatic and suspenseful film, the story focuses on a policeman named Edward Malus who spends his days patrolling a highway, after a terrible accident he decides to take a few days off work, during this little vacation he receives a letter from the girl with the one who was going to get married but who abandoned him at the altar, by this means she asks him for help, since she has lost her daughter and the inhabitants of the island do not want to help her find her, which is why our protagonist embarks to that no man's land to try to solve the mystery.

The soundtrack does not have many elements that make it stand out, it has one or another musical track that causes intrigue and that fulfills its function, apart from that there is nothing else to highlight.

The construction of the world is not something that stands out much, let's say, the thing is that the film takes place on an island where things are supposed to not work in the same way as in conventional society, however, in its construction of There are very few elements in the world that are contributing to this idea, in fact, the methods he uses are unorthodox when telling his face what is happening without going through the subtlety of allowing the viewer to anticipate through his setting that something doesn't add up Outside of the above there isn't much either, it only manages to generate a strange atmosphere that doesn't help the suspense, it's just weird.

With the plot, something similar happens with the construction of the world, the film does not make it clear what its objective is and there are moments in which it feels that it is not getting anywhere, this more than some suspense planned to generate intrigue is it feels like a way to artificially lengthen the film to make its final reveal more "shocking" the problem with this is that it goes from zero to one hundred in 2 seconds and the turns don't fit because they aren't worked in a good way to make them look organic. The above could be forgiven if he had something else to look at but unfortunately he just opted to put all the eggs in one basket and they all end up crashing.

The characters are another hopeless case, I will only talk about the protagonist since he is the one who spends the most time on the screen, the problem with him is that he is very inconsistent to the point that at more than one moment he lacks common sense, something even more serious when he's supposed to be police trained which should make him a bit more cautious; This means that throughout the film he only does illogical things and his very stupidity is the one that gets him into a lot of trouble, noting the narrative need for him to be an idiot to advance the plot, the above means that you cannot empathize with the proper because his behavior is too absurd. The rest is a zero to the left that is only there to represent something more than to be someone, the unexpected actions of some only feel like acts without reason and unjustified.

The Wicker Man is plagued with errors which are accumulating and making it impossible not to see them, being that the worst thing is that the film is boring to see due to the fact that it lacks things that make it moderately interesting, thus becoming its worst enemy. It is for all of the above that it deserves 2 stars out of 7, in general it feels like a hasty and little-thought-out idea that ends up stumbling too much due to haste and that I only recommend as a solution for a sleepless night.
