YU YU HAKUSHO LIVE-ACTION (EN / PT)
|EN|
Talking about Yu Yu Hakusho is remembering my childhood, this anime was very successful in the 1990. It was shown on TV Record (Brazil), if I'm not mistaken, in 1997, I was 9 years old. I didn't have a television at home, only one of my friends did, we put together a group to watch it every day at his home. His mother didn't like it, but the important thing was the moment. The anime It was very overpower for the time, no other anime rivaled it.
One thing that really moved me was the opening song, wow, i loved it, i learned and still sing to this day. Another thing that was really cool, Yusuke's speech, his dubbing was perfect, he used slang that we were used to in our daily lives. It was a completely innovative anime reality. Continues to be a success to this day.
Being able to relive the anime again in live-action is something wonderful, it's a combination of nostalgia and satisfaction.
THE LIVE-ACTION
I had a lot of expectations and I can say that, overall, they were met, it was excellent. In five episodes, they managed to reproduce 2 seasons of the anime, around 66 episodes. The quality of the adaptation, the dubbing and the fidelity to the base of the main work were impeccable.
MY ANXIETY
Initially, I missed the songs that represent the anime, when I clicked to watch, I already imagined the famous song: Sorriso Contagiante.
“In the hustle and bustle of the big city
So many people pass by, I'm alone!
The wind blows across the field
And bring a memory of you, I'm alone!
I can't even tell you which of these places hurts me the most.
But I know how to make up my own mind because I grew up
I’m strong, I’m ready to fight!”
This song is too cool.
The anime has already started with the death of Yusuke Urameshi, our protagonist who will return to life as a spiritual detective, solving cases between humans and the other world. His personality and slang are the same as the anime (How wonderful), it's great to be able to hear some phrases from my childhood from Yusuke's mouth.
FAMOUS URAMESHI PHRASES
“I’m in the area and if I take it down it’s a penalty”
“I don’t have any samba skills, but I can hit like hell!”
“Ah, I’m more me, right?”
“You are big, but not two, I am small, but not half!”
“Rapadura is sweet, but not soft”
At the beginning of each episode, there is a summary of what is happening, this helps you understand the plot. One cool thing was the way they approached the anime sagas: Spiritual Detective Saga and Dark Tournament Saga in 5 episodes.
1st EPISODE: Death and return as a spiritual detective;
2nd EPISODE: Recover the mysterious treasures and along the way, insert the other main characters of the saga (Kazuma Kuwabara, Hiei and Kurama);
3rd EPISODE: Conclusion of the treasure saga and training with master Genkai;
4TH EPISODE: Journey to the island of darkness, mention of the famous dark tournament from the anime and the beginning of the fights (It was the same fights in the final in the anime);
5TH EPISODE: Final fight against Toguro and his 100%.
OBSERVATION: There are more main characters such as Botan, Keiko Yukimura, Yukina and Koenma who contribute and influence the group's interaction and the development of the plot, but because they are secondary, they did not have much space in the development of the work.
One thing is certain, each character lives up to their role, being able to watch Kuwabara using his light sword, Hiei using the Dark Dragon and Kurama using his transformation into a Yokai is very rewarding. It's pure nostalgia.
THE ENEMIES
The combat scenes were impressive, even those who have never watched the anime will be excited. There were many combat scenes, but the ones that had the most impact were:
- Yusuke vs any opponent (his every fight had a lot of beatings)
- Kurama vs Karasu
- Hiei vs Bui
- Kuwabara vs Toguro's brother
WHAT WAS MISSING TO GET BETTER
The opening with the anime's original music;
Having made better use of Toguro's 100% fighting with Yusuke;
Netflix buys the Yu Yu Hakusho anime franchise.
PERSONAL COMMENT
I witnessed some root fans complaining about the appearance of the characters, they wanted them to be the same, we must understand that they are the human versions. There has to be some change in appearance.
FUNNY HISTORY
In my childhood, on the day of Hiei's fight against Bui, a soap opera started on the Globo network and my colleague's mother decided to watch it. The soap opera episodes were at the same time as our renowned moment of Yu Yu HAKUSHO. There were fights, crying and a lot of anger at those times, we lost something we liked. Man, it was very sad, we lost our beloved anime to a soap opera. “Few people had televisions at the time, the loss was inevitable.” I was only able to finish it after a few years, but I never forgot it, the anime marked my life.
There's a lot of news that I didn't mention, watch it, you'll like it.
WHO LIKED THIS WONDER IN THE 90'S? It's my people, we are already getting old.
WHERE TO WATCH? It's on Netflix.

Sou forte, estou pronto a lutar!”
1º EPISÓDIO: Morte e retorno como detetive espiritual;
2º EPISÓDIO: Recupere os tesouros misteriosos e pelo caminho insira os demais personagens principais da saga (Kazuma Kuwabara, Hiei e Kurama);
3º EPISÓDIO: Conclusão da saga do tesouro e treinamento com mestre Genkai;
4º EPISÓDIO: Viagem à ilha das trevas, menção ao famoso torneio das trevas do anime e início das lutas (Foram as mesmas lutas na final do anime);
- Kurama x Karasu
- Hiei x Bui
- Kuwabara vs irmão de Toguro
O QUE FALTAVA PARA MELHORAR
A abertura com a música original do anime;
Tendo aproveitado melhor a luta 100% de Toguro com Yusuke;

This is so hype on facebook now. Im seeing a lot of good review about that. I can't really relate coz I haven't watch the anime version of this. And Im thinking if I shoukd watch the live action, but it looks interesting.
I can't guarantee you'll like it, but I recommend watching it. One wrong thing that Netflix did was launch the live-action without buying the anime franchise.
I watched the Brazilian version, it's excellent, one of the reasons is the main character's speech. Using Brazilian slang was the peak at the time.
Opening in Portuguese:
Ohhh, this sounds cool. When this anime aired in Philippine TV, the Title was Ghost Fighter and I think they keep the OST in Japanese language.
I usually like watching it in Japanese. I started to like it that way as an adult.
Having the pleasure of watching it in Portuguese as a child literally got me hooked on anime.
Ohhh, now that I'm seeing more about the live action, I feel like watching it now. (≧▽≦)
I hope it is a unique moment in your life.

I love YuYu Hakusho, it's one of my favorite shonen. It's a surprise to see the adaptation is acceptable, that's something that always scares me when I see Netflix is going to adapt something.
I'm surprised they adapted on Yoko Kurama's transformation, that makes me want to watch it even more, hahaha.
Cheers and thanks for sharing ✌️
Pd: the opening of the anime is a marvel ❤️
I'm afraid of Netflix's live-actions, the first ones were disappointing.
I was scared and anxious, luckily they knew how to do it.
