Los productivos 94 años de Clint Eastwood (Esp | Eng)
Celebra hoy sus 94 años –31 de mayo de 1930– el indiscutible icono del cine estadounidense y mundial: Clint Eastwood. Ha sido uno de los hombres de cine más versátiles, pues se ha desempeñado como actor, director, productor, guionista, e incluso compositor musical para algunos de sus filmes. Pero también de los más prolíficos: se sabe de 46 filmes protagonizados (interviniendo en 57), 25 dirigidos y 20 producidos.
Si bien el inicio de su carrera como actor se data de 1954 y luego en 1958 en la teleserie estadounidense Rawhide, su debut destacado fue en la trilogía de los llamados "spaghetti westerns", dirigidos por el no bien ponderado Sergio Leone: Por un puñado de dólares, La muerte tenía un precio y El bueno, el malo y el feo, hechos en la década del 60, donde interpreta a esa figura que lo identificará por mucho tiempo: el personaje del cowboy duro y solitario. Luego, en la década del 70, asumirá otro personaje emblemático, Harry el sucio.
Su carrera como director comenzó en 1971, con Play Misty for Me, traducida como Obsesión fatal (donde también fue protagonista), un film que anuncia una tendencia de su obra, la del thriller. Son varios los filmes dirigidos por Eastwood que le han dado el lugar de realizador de gran calidad, por el tratamiento de los temas, las historias y sus personajes. Quisiera aquí dedicar mi atención, brevemente, a dos de esos filmes, por los que siento especial aprecio.
En 1993 dirige Un mundo perfecto, filme dramático de intriga, en el que se nos presenta el secuestro de un niño de 8 años por parte de un asesino que se ha escapado de prisión, junto con otro recluso, como un modo de escudar su huida. El personaje adulto principal, el del asesino, es protagonizado por Kevin Costner, en una actuación considerada de las mejores en su carrera, que mezcla la dureza y cierta bondad; la actuación del niño es también de un valor resaltable. Eastwood, quien actúa como el guardia perseguidor, logra un relato de suma intensidad emocional, combinando magistralmente momentos de inocencia o perversidad, de alegría y violencia. Es valorada como la primera gran película dirigida por Eastwood y una de las mejores de Hollywood de los años 90.
10 años después, en 2003, Clint Eastwood asumió el rol de director (e hizo la música, más no actuó) de una de sus realizaciones mejor recibidas por la crítica y que también fuera exitosa comercialmente: Río Místico, y que obtuvo dos premios Oscar (primer actor y actor de reparto), además de otros y varias nominaciones en diferentes espacios. También un drama de intriga, este tiene más los rasgos del thriller clásico: oscuro y enigmático. Cuenta con un reparto de primera, en el que los principales personajes son interpretados por Sean Penn, Tim Robbins y Kevin Bacon.
La historia presenta dos situaciones en el tiempo, relacionadas en varios aspectos: tres adolescentes que comparten su vida en un barrio, pero que serán afectados por el acoso policial, concentrado en el abuso perpetrado en uno de ellos. Transcurridos 25 años, la vida los reencontrará, en medio de una situación de crímenes, en las que están involucrados de diferente manera dos de ellos, en una relación compleja de víctima y victimario, en la que parece reproducirse las marcas dejadas en sus vidas individuales por el entorno social y el pasado, y la intervención de investigación policial de los hechos en juego, por parte del tercero.
No es una historia ligera ni complaciente; es un relato duro y complejo, que conjuga lo sombrío de las relaciones humanas —amistosas, familiares, sociales— incididas por los traumas y prejuicios, por las actitudes intolerantes y angustiadas. Comparto con cierta crítica que quizás sea la realización de Eastwood más inteligente y exigente.

In 1993 he directed A perfect world, a dramatic intrigue film, in which we are presented with the kidnapping of an 8-year-old boy by a murderer who has escaped from prison, along with another inmate, as a way to shield his escape. The main adult character, the murderer, is played by Kevin Costner, in a performance considered one of the best in his career, which mixes toughness and a certain kindness; The child's performance is also of notable value. Eastwood, who acts as the pursuing guard, achieves a story of extreme emotional intensity, masterfully combining moments of innocence or perversity, of joy and violence. It is valued as the first great film directed by Eastwood and one of the best Hollywood films of the 90s.
10 years later, in 2003, Clint Eastwood assumed the role of director (and did the music, but did not act) of one of his films best received by critics and which was also commercially successful: Río Místico, and which won two Oscars (first actor and supporting actor), in addition to others and several nominations in different spaces. It is not a light or complacent story; It is a hard and complex story, which combines the gloom of human relationships – friendly, family, social – influenced by traumas and prejudices, by intolerant and anguished attitudes. I share with some criticism that it is perhaps Eastwood's most intelligent and demanding film.
