The Woman King | Movie Review | 10/10
Hello, today I bring you a recommendation for a movie that is on HBOMAX and I think it is a gem, one of the best that I consider, according to my criteria, I have seen this year so far. But I must warn you that it contains scenes of violence and some scenes that can be disturbing.
Hola, hoy les traigo una recomendación de una película que está en HBOMAX y me parece que es una joya, una de las mejores que yo considero según mi criterio he visto en este año hasta ahora. Pero debo advertirles que contiene escenas de violencia y algunas escenas que pueden ser perturbadoras.
In this film we are going to enter the African kingdom, and we start the story knowing that the African kingdom of Dahomey is in serious trouble. There is a new king who is assuming power (Ghezo) but things are not so easy because due to this his enemies join power, the Oyo empire together with the people of Mahi.
And things will get pretty ugly because that union is to attack the people of Dahomey, to sell them to European slavers, keep in mind that this is from the 1800s. In the film at the beginning he tells us that both towns have fallen into this vice, despite being all from the same country.
En esta película vamos a entrar en el reino africano, y empezamos la historia sabiendo que El reina africano de Dahomey está en serios aprietos. Hay un nuevo rey que está asumiendo el poder (Ghezo) pero las cosas no son tan faciles porque debido a esto sus enemigos unen poder, el imperio Oyo junto con el pueblo de Mahi.
Y las cosas se podrán bastante feas porque esa unión es para atacar a la gente de Dahomey, para venderla a esclavistas europeos, tomar en cuenta que esto es de los años 1800s. En la pelicula al principio nos cuenta que ambos pueblos han caído en este vicio, a pesar de ser todos del mismo país.

There was a difference between these groups and that is that the Oyo empire had firearms for those times and also horses, but the Dahomey kingdom had an elite force of female soldiers, called the Agojie who were led by their general, Nanisca.
What we will see in this film is how these great women, these warriors stand between the Oyo and the annihilation of their Dahomey kingdom.
Había una diferencia entre estos grupos y es que el imperio de Oyo tenía arma de fuego para esos tiempos y también caballos, pero el reino de Dahomey tenía una fuerza elite de mujeres soldados, llamadas las Agojie quienes fueron guiadas por su general, nanisca.
Lo que veremos en esta película es como estas grandes mujeres, estas guerreras se interponen entre los Oyo y la aniquilacion de su reino Dahomey.

And it is that this film tells us what was a very bitter reality, in one of those first scenes they show a little of the ways of living or what seem to be customs at that time, they show us Mawi who seems to be a teenager and her parents they want to marry her off, when she gets home she finds that she has a suitor, when we look at him it is clear that he is an older man, and on the girl's face you can only see terror, she is scared and remains silent, the man tells her that she will be his wife and that she must work, she is still silent and the man says that this is disrespectful and we see that he slaps her quite hard, we do not see the parents react, but seconds later the girl decides to push the man and he says that this woman has no value and leaves without making any deal. The next thing we see is her parents punishing her and taking her daughter to the king...
Y es que esta película nos relata lo que fue una realidad muy amarga, en una de esas primeras escenas muestran un poco de las formas de vivir o lo que parecen costumbres en ese tiempo, nos muestran a Mawi quien parece ser una adolescente y sus padres quieren casarla, ella al llegar a casa encuentra que tiene un pretendiente, al mirarlo tenemos en claro que es un hombre mayor, y en la cara de la chica sólo se ve el terror, está asustada y se queda muda, el hombre le dice que ella será su esposa y que debe trabajar, ella aún sigue muda y el hombre dice que eso es una falta de respeto y vemos que le da una bofetada bastante fuerte, no vemos a los padres reaccionar, pero segundos después la chica decide empujar al hombre y este dice que esa mujer no tiene valor y se marcha sin hacer ningún trato. Lo siguiente que vemos es a sus padres castigarla y llevan a entregarles su hija al rey...
These scenes are not easy to assimilate, just imagining myself as a woman being in a situation where I can't decide what to do with my life, in addition to the population's need to grow and get out of poverty. But we see that despite everything Mawi decides that she will not be given to any man to take advantage of her.
The fact that all this happened was actually a good thing for Mawi, in the King's spaces was where everything happened, there were groups of men and on the other hand of women who would train to be an Agojie
Estas escenas no son fáciles de asimilar, solamente de imaginarme yo como mujer estar en una situación donde no puedo decidir que hacer con mi vida, además de la necesidad de la población de crecer y salir de la pobreza. Pero vemos que Mawi a pesar de todo decide que ella no será entregada a ningún hombre para que se aproveche de ella.
El hecho de que pasara todo esto, en realidad fue algo bueno para Mawi, en los espacios del Rey era donde todo ocurría, habían bandos de hombres y por otro lado de mujeres que entrenarían para ser una Agojie.
The agojies are fierce women who leave nothing in the hands of men, they are great women with incredible strength and their main weapons will be knives and spears, see a woman of these take up a weapon and defend what is hers, her people and other women from being sold and raped, that's where the real female empowerment is.
This movie is not one that can be told and summarized, it is best to see it for yourselves, you will not regret it.
Las agojies son mujeres feroces que no dejan nada en manos de los hombres, son grandes mujeres con una fuerza increíble y sus principales armas serán los cuchillos y lanzas, ver a una mujer de estas tomar un arma y defender lo que es suyo, su pueblo y otras mujeres de ser vendidas y violadas, ahí es donde está el verdadero empoderamiento femenino.
Esta película no es una de las que se pueda contar y dar un resumen, lo mejor es verlo por ustedes mismos, no se arrepentirán.

Justamente estoy viendo un diplomado de erradiación de violencia en contra de la mujer y me es díficil pensar como hemos ganado tanto terreno y aún seguimos viendo este tipo de escenas donde el valor de la mujer se ve vulnerado por sociedades machistas y patriarcales.
Tengo como un mes que me quitaron el HBO, me dice " no válido para mi país" pero gracias por compartir la reseña 😉.
La sociedad aún sigue siendo machista hoy en día, es una lucha difícil porque ellos han sido así desde siglos, las mujeres tenemos décadas empezando esta lucha que se está haciendo más y más fuerte cada vez. Ahora es imposible mantenernos calladas
