In the film we will see that we begin by knowing the history of William and his family, how they all work for the same goal. William's father is a farmer, he was very dedicated to the land and with that he produced food for his family.
En la película veremos que empezamos conociendo la historia de William y la de su familia, como todos trabajan por el mismo objetivo. El padre de William es un agricultor, se dedicaba mucho a la tierra y con eso producía alimento para su familia.
Until he was 13 years old, William dedicated himself to helping his family with whatever he was told to do, but also in his spare time he went to a local dump and extracted things that still worked like batteries, light bulbs, some electrical devices that could be repaired, William liked to check them and see if he could put them to another use or repair them.
That same year his parents surprised him that he could attend school. Something I didn't know and I learned from the movie is that all schools in Africa are paid. Very different from my reality that I grew up in a country where there are schools with access to free education.
William hasta sus 13 años se dedicaba a ayudar a su familia con lo que sea que le dijera para hacer, pero también en sus momentos libre iba a un vertedero local y extraía cosas que aún funcionaran como baterias, bombillas, algunas arfectados electricos que pudieran ser reparados, a William le gustaba chequearlos y ver si podía darles otro uso o repararlos.
En ese mismo año sus padres le dieron la sorpresa de que podía asistir al colegio. Algo que no sabía y aprendí por película es que todos los colegios en africa son pagos. Muy diferente a mi realidad que crecí en un país donde hay colegios con acceso a la educación gratuita.

Going through the school that year was quite a roller coaster, at first William was able to attend the first few weeks because his parents had only paid part of it and they could not pay the rest, so for William the doors of the school were closed. He eventually looked for ways to only get into science classes because he was very interested in it, therefore his teacher also helped him get into the library where he became particularly interested in some books about energy.
El paso por la escuela ese año fue toda una montaña rusa, al principio William pudo asistir las primeras semanas porque sus padre habían pagado una parte solamente y el resto no lo pudieron pagar, por lo que para William se le cerraron las puertas de la escuela. Eventualmente buscó formas de entrar solamente a la clases de ciencias porque le interesaba mucho, por consiguiente su maestro también lo ayudó a entrar en la biblioteca donde se interesó particularmente por unos libros acerca de la energía.

When William started classes at that time the heavy rains had also started, that caused his family's crops to be flooded and that was their way of livelihood for them, after that what followed was a strong drought affecting the crops of everyone in the community.
This point needs explanation, so I'll put it more in context with the movie: That year the Zimbabwean government sold its grain reserves to buy fuel, leaving the country without a food reserve to face an emergency. Malawi then inexplicably sold its food reserves, at a time when the next maize crop was expected to be smaller than normal. Floods, followed by a year of drought, reduced harvests by more than half in some regions and it was clear that millions of people in each country would surely require food aid to survive until the next harvest. On the horizon was political chaos and mismanagement, unfortunately leading to the collapse of large-scale agriculture.
Cuando William comenzó las clases en ese entonces también habían comenzados las lluvías fuertes, eso causó que se inundaran los cultivos de su familia y esa era su forma de sustento para ellos, después de eso lo que le siguió fue una fuerte sequía afectando las cosechas de todos en la comunidad.

There was a lot of chaos everywhere, because a strong famine had started, people were desperate and did not know what to do to make it best for them, many people were dying, the fields were completely dry, nothing could be produced, and if nothing is produced, there is nothing to eat. That was the situation William's family was in as well.
Hubo mucho caos por todos lados, pues había empezado una fuerte hambruna, las personas estaban desesperadas y no sabían que hacer que fuera lo mejor para ellos, mucha gente muriendo, los campos completamentes secos no se podía producir nada, y si no se produce nada, no hay nada para comer. Esa era la situación en la que también estaba metida la familia de William.

This young man, with the education he had and with his interest in engineering and energy, remembered that there was a book that he read in hiding in the school library, something that he thought could work, and it is about wind energy, and from this book added to his intelligence and creativity William was able to save his family from starvation that year.
Este jovencito con la educación que tuvo y con su interes por la ingeniera y la energía, recordó que había un libro que leyó en la clandestinidad de la biblioteca de la escuela, algo que pensó que podía funcionar, y se trata de la energía eolica, y a partir de este libro sumada a su inteligencia y creatividad William pudo salvar a su familia de morir de hambre ese año.

Yes, I understand that I basically counted everything, but it is not the same that I am here on my computer writing all this than that you take the time to find the film and see it for yourself. These things make you give yourself a change of scenery, have a different perspective on people, places, on yourself, be grateful. Because they are not easy situations, everyone's life is not the same. It would be nice if we could all contribute to humanity and the planet too but sometimes I tell myself it's just my own utopian thoughts.
But either way, I recommend watching the movie. The boy who harnessed the wind. You can find it on Netflix.
Sí, entiendo que básicamente conté todo, pero no es lo mismo que yo esté aquí en mi computadora redactando todo esto a que tú te tomes el tiempo que encontrar la película y verla por ti mismo. Estas cosas te hacen darte un cambio de aire, tener unas perspectiva diferente de las personas, los lugares, sobre ti mismo, ser agradecidos. Porque no son situaciones fáciles, la vida de todos no es igual. Sería agradable si todos pudieramos contribuir a la humanidad y al planeta también pero a veces me digo a mi misma que solamente son mis propios pensamientos utópicos.
Pero de cualquier forma, recomiendo ver la película. El niño que domó el viento. Pueden encontrarla en Netflix.

Hola amiga, esta película es muy bonita, emotiva y a la vez un poco triste, ya que es algo que pueden pasar muchas familias, donde la agricultura es la principal fuente de ingresos o cualquier otra actividad que se tenga que hacer. Sin duda lograron recrear una gran trama y la creatividad de ese pequeño es lo máximo, demostrando que las oportunidades, si existen, solo quedan buscarlas. Genial que hayas disfrutado de ese gran clásico.
