M3GAN- Movie Review

Imagine having a perfect friend, a friend that loves you to the extent where they can do harm to anyone/thing that poses a threat to you. That pays attention to all your needs and wants, a friend that loves you to a fault.

Well we have "M3GAN", from the name I had no idea of what it was going to be about but when I started it, it got me hooked from the first scene.

ABOUT THE MOVIE

"M3GAN" is a 2022 science fiction horror movie directed by Gerard Johnstone about a girl, Cady who lost her parents in a car accident and as a result her aunt, Gemma has to take her in to take care of her.

Gemma is a roboticist who works in a toy company, taking in Cady is a big adjustment to her so she finds it hard to cope and is not really doing a good job in taking care of her because she does not have any experience taking care of children but has to do it because to promised her sister, Cady's mother that she would take care of Cady.

Gemma creates M3GAN (Model 3 Generative Android) that does not work out at first and is told to drop the project by her boss, David, because it didn't work out and it required a high budget.

She drops the project reluctantly and tries to finish up the other toy development until Cady discovers a robot, Bruce,Gemma creates. With that Gemma gets an idea and puts her boss's work on hold.

Gemma picks up M3GAN and decides to try to fix her up again, finally completed and programmed. Gemma pairs M3GAN to Cady after being tested, Gemma shows it to David. David believes that it can be a successful project so they prepare to show it to the investors.

During this period, Cady and M3GAN are form a very tight bond and Gemma is happy that she has found a way for Cady to cope after losing her parents but Cady's therapist, Lydia does not see it as a good idea for Cady to be more attached to a robot than to a human and sees it as unhealthy.

One of the times that M3GAN and Cady are in the house playing while Gemma is working in her work space, Cady loses one of her arrows so she tells M3GAN to help her look for it.

M3GAN finds it at the other side of the fence, on their neighbor's lane through a hole in the fence so she goes to get it for Cady but she is attacked by the neighbor's dog and Cady tries to help her but gets bitten in the process and Gemma hearing her shout runs out to find her crying with a dog bite on her hand.

Gemma calls the police reporting that the neighbor does not restrain her dog and that it is wild but the police say there is nothing they can do because it was on its side of the fence.

Gemma can't do anything so she goes to meet Cady inside the house. Later at night M3GAN lured the dog, Dewey out, killed it and buried it. M3GAN continued upgrading and with that she became more possessive of Cady and dangerous.

From killing a boy that bullied Cady to killing their neighbor,Celia, Dewey's owner. All this happened without the knowledge of Gemma or Cady but at a point Gamma began to suspect M3GAN's behavior so she went to check her files and discovered that some of them had gone missing.

She was able to switch off M3GAN and take her to the company to run more tests but it was also the day for the launching and she didn't want M3GAN going to other children if it had a problem.

Cady began throwing tantrums because she didn't want to part with M3GAN so Gemma talked to her, telling her that she was sorry that she wasn't able to help her cope after her parents died and rather left her to a robot but she wanted to help her through it.

After their talk, Cady calmed down so Gemma took her back home with the plans of not launching M3GAN. When Gemma left the company, M3GAN broke loose by activating by herself, she hangs Cole almost killing him and Tess tries to save him, both Gemma's colleagues.

M3GAN gets out of the lab, kills David and his assistant, Kurt and causes a big scene before going back to Gemma's house.

When she reached the house, she attacked Gemma, saying that she would kill her if she didn't cooperate but if she cooperated so that they could take care of Cady together she wouldn't kill her but Gemma does not agree so they start fighting.

While they were struggling, Cady sees this and tried to help Gemma beat M3GAN and together they were able to defeat her but not completely.

This movie exceeded what I expected by far and I felt that all the actors did their parts well and passionately. Having an AI best friend that knew you inside out and was loyal to only you but could also upgrade every second would be very incredible but also creepy at the same time, I don't know if I am making sense😅 but I hope I am.

RECOMMENDATION

I would recommend this movie to any lover of horror films though it wasn't that gruesome and to anyone who is an AI or toy lover.
