I hope you are feeling great today... today I am here to talk to you about a series that caused quite a stir in the year it premiered... right now the second season is being filmed, I thought it prudent to give you my opinions and give you a little review about how I found the Wednesday series. The Wednesday series undoubtedly captured the attention of millions of people and for some time became, if I'm not mistaken, the most watched series on all of Netflix. As a fan of the Adams family, I confess I had my doubts about this new interpretation centered on the eldest daughter, as she had not normally been given so much prominence, so to speak... she was usually another member of the family who was not extended much more.

The first thing that jumps out in this series is the impeccable performance of actress Jenna Ortegas as Wednesday Adams, her performance is simply masterful. I loved it, I didn't know much about this actress and she certainly left me in love... I think she managed to capture in an excellent way all the macabre and sarcastic essence of the character, but still adds a depth that normally had never been seen. Her gaze is very penetrating, the way she walks and her dialogues make it impossible to look away from her every time she's on screen.. it's very hypnotizing, I found it fascinating how she managed to convey so little facial expression within the story...

And well, I liked the plot too, it revolves around a supernatural mystery at Nevermore Academy. Although it is true that some twists are predictable, others manage to surprise, I liked how the series combines elements of mystery, horror and black humor... it creates a very unique atmosphere, something characteristic of Tim Burton.

Espero que se encuentren genial en el día de hoy.. hoy les vengo a hablar de una serie que causó cierto revuelo en el año que se estrenó.. ahora mismo se está filmando la segunda temporada, me pareció prudente darles mis opiniones y hacerles una pequeña reseña al respecto sobre cómo a mí me pareció la serie de Wednesday o Miércoles. La serie de Wednesday sin duda capturó la atención de millones de personas y por algún tiempo se convirtió, si no me equivoco, en la serie más vista de todo Netflix. Como fan de la familia Adams, confieso que tenía mis dudas al respecto sobre esta nueva interpretación centrada en la hija mayor, ya que normalmente no se le había dado tanto protagonismo, por así decirlo... normalmente era otro miembro de la familia que no se extendía mucho más.

Lo primero que salta a la vista en esta serie es la impecable actuación de la actriz Jenna Ortegas como Wednesday Adams, su interpretación es simplemente magistral. A mí me encantó, yo no conocía mucho a esta actriz y sin duda me dejó enamorado.. creo que logró capturar de manera excelente toda la esencia macabra y sarcástica del personaje, pero aun así le añade una profundidad que normalmente nunca se había visto. Su mirada es muy penetrante, su forma de caminar y sus diálogos hacen que sea imposible apartar la vista de ella cada vez que está en pantalla.. es muy hipnotizante, me pareció fascinante cómo ha logrado transmitir tan poca expresión facial dentro de la historia..

Y bueno, la trama también me gustó, gira en torno a un misterio sobrenatural en la Academia Nevermore. Aunque si es verdad que algunos giros son predecibles, otros logran sorprender, me gustó cómo la serie combina elementos de misterio, horror y humor negro.. se crea una atmósfera muy única, algo característico de Tim Burton.

Speaking of Tim Burton, all his influence is completely noticeable in the general aesthetics of the whole series, the sets, costumes and photography can really enchant the lovers of the gothic and eccentric... I found the Nevermore Academy very interesting, there are even times when it seems like another character... its dark corridors and secrets give a sense of occultism very characteristic of monster movies. Clearly, this series also had a lot of criticism, it is obvious that it would have to fall into certain clichés of teen dramas.. and this, truth be told, I feel that it does hurt the overall tone a bit. For example, the love triangle within the series feels forced and not really necessary for Wednesday's development as a character...

Fortunately, these moments don't quite overshadow the strengths of the series, another thing I quite liked in this series were the supporting characters... Some, like Enid, our protagonist's roommate, and of course, Thing, the hand, who is very funny, are really endearing and add a lot to the story.... Sadly, there are also some characters that are a bit flat and never really get fully developed...this is a shame, really. I feel like outside of the previous two, they could have exploited a lot more monster characters, I think that would have been great...

Clearly, I also would have liked to see a lot more of the Adams family, especially Morticia and Gomez. While I fully understand that the focus is primarily on Wednesday... these characters leave viewers wanting to get to know them better! One aspect that I was quite surprised to see was how the series tackled issues such as acceptance, identity and family. Despite its cold exterior, we really see how Wednesday tries to wrestle with quite human issues, which makes it more relatable, but never losing its unique essence.

Hablando de Tim Burton, toda su influencia se nota completamente en la estética general de toda la serie, los escenarios, el vestuario y la fotografía realmente pueden encantar a los amantes de lo gótico y lo excéntrico.. La Academia Nevermore me pareció muy interesante, incluso hay veces que parece un personaje más.. sus pasillos oscuros y sus secretos dan una sensación de ocultismo muy característico de las películas monstruosas. Claramente, esta serie tuvo también muchas críticas, es obvio que tendría que caer en ciertos clichés de dramas adolescentes.. y esto, la verdad, siento que sí daña un poco el tono general. Por ejemplo, el triángulo amoroso que hay dentro de la serie se siente forzado y realmente poco necesario para el desarrollo de Wednesday como personaje..

Afortunadamente, estos momentos no llegan a opacar del todo las fortalezas de la serie, otra cosa que me gustó bastante en esta serie fueron los personajes secundarios.. Algunos, como Enid, la compañera de cuarto de nuestra protagonista, y por supuesto, Thing, la mano, que es muy gracioso, son realmente entrañables y aportan mucho a la historia.. Lastimosamente, también hay algunos personajes un poco planos que nunca llegan a desarrollarse completamente.. esto es una lástima, la verdad. Siento que fuera de los dos anteriores, pudieron explotar muchos más personajes monstruosos, creo que eso habría sido genial..

Claramente, también me hubiera gustado ver mucho más de la familia Adams, especialmente de Morticia y Gomez. Aunque entiendo perfectamente que el foco está enfocado principalmente en Wednesday.. estos personajes dejan a los espectadores con muchas ganas de conocerlos mejor! Un aspecto que me sorprendió bastante fue ver como la serie abordó temas como la aceptación, la identidad y la familia. A pesar de su exterior frío, realmente vemos como Wednesday trata de luchar con cuestiones bastante humanas, lo que hace más relatable, pero nunca perdiendo su esencia única.

The music too, right, I feel it deserves a special mention. The whole soundtrack perfectly complemented the atmosphere of the series, and of course, Wednesday's dance scene became iconic, and I think it's a good reason... the actress really gives it her all and transmits a lot of charisma in this performance. And a curious fact, this scene was totally improvised by the actress Jenna Ortega, the dance as such was not in the script, and it was excellent, and she decided to include it in the final footage. As for the pace, it is true that the series maintains a normal pace, intolerable, between the moments of action, the mystery, and the more leisurely moments... although it is true that there are episodes that feel quite slow, and in which the narrative does not end up taking off completely, but still, they manage to keep the interest in the viewers.

I think this series managed to create its own identity, moving away a little bit from the Adams family seal as such... this series is not just another adaptation, but completely reinvents the original spirit of this family while exploring new territories, mainly to attract new viewers and at the same time satisfy some who already knew this family since a long time ago... I think it's good that these risks are taken, since the ideal is to explore and reach as many people as possible... it's true that the teen issues leave a lot to be desired, but at the end of the day it's not just about pleasing old fans, but bringing in many more new viewers and getting them genuinely interested in this family and its quirks.

La música también, cierto, siento que merece una mención especial. Toda la banda sonora complementó perfectamente la atmósfera de la serie, y por supuesto, la escena de baile de Wednesday se hizo icónica, y creo que es una buena razón.. la actriz realmente lo da todo y transmite mucho carisma en esta presentación. Y un dato curioso, esta escena fue totalmente improvisada por la actriz Jenna Ortega, el baile como tal no estaba en el guion, y pues quedó excelente, y se decidió a incluirlo en el metraje final. En cuanto al ritmo, es verdad que la serie mantiene un ritmo normal, intolerable, entre los momentos de acción, los de misterio, y los momentos más pausados.. aunque es cierto que hay episodios que se sienten bastante lentos, y en los cuales la narrativa no termina de despegar completamente, pero al igual, se las arreglan para mantener el interés en los espectadores.

Creo que esta serie logró crearse su propia identidad, apartándola un poco del sello de la familia Adams como tal.. esta serie no es una simple adaptación más, sino que reinventa completamente el espíritu original de esta familia mientras exploran nuevos territorios, principalmente para atraer nuevos espectadores y para al mismo tiempo satisfacer a algunos que ya conocían a esta familia desde hace mucho tiempo.. Me parece bueno que se tomen estos riesgos, ya que lo ideal es explorar y llegar a mucha más gente posible.. si es verdad que las cuestiones adolescentes dejan mucho que desear, pero al fin y al cabo no se trata de solo complacer a los fanáticos antiguos, sino de traer a muchos más nuevos espectadores y que se interesen genuinamente por esta familia y sus extravagancias.

In terms of production, I found this series impressive, the special effects, while not the main focus of the entire narrative, are well executed. The costume design, without a doubt, is incredible, especially the looks of Wednesday.... I thought they were impeccable and totally in line with the character. As a constructive criticism, I think the series could have gone deeper into some mysteries and legends of the academy... I think the whole gothic aesthetics could have been much more, I hope in the second season this will be addressed in a better way.

I think this series manages to perfectly balance the homage to an iconic character with an entertaining story... obviously it's not perfect, but its successes for me far outweigh its failures. Jenna Ortega, without a doubt, was a complete revelation and she shined exceptionally in the lead role... There were people who stupidly complained about the characterization of some characters, it's understandable, people who don't know the original material could complain about the interpretation of Gomez, Wednesday's father, labeling him as “ugly”, completely ignoring that in the first cartoons of the Adams family, the character of Homer Gomez was shorter, chubby, with a mustache, and didn't quite fit the current canons of beauty.

I think that, again, past adaptations have made some people misaccustomed to identifying the new interpretations as not faithful. Likewise, I think they gave a lot of backstory to Homer, and I guess, although not all of his life at the academy was fully explored, the first glimpses that were given I really liked, I think that the past of the parents had never been explored as such.. as it was built in this series... I personally liked it quite a lot, I hope to see more of it in the second season.

En términos de producción, esta serie me pareció impresionante, los efectos especiales, aunque no son el foco principal de toda la narrativa, están bien ejecutados. El diseño de vestuario, sin duda, es increíble, especialmente los looks de Wednesday.. A mí me parecieron impecables y totalmente en línea con el personaje. Como crítica constructiva, creo que la serie podría haber profundizado más en algunos misterios y leyendas de la academia... creo que toda la estética gótica daba para muuucho más, espero en la segunda temporada esto se aborde de mejor forma.

Opino que esta serie logra equilibrar perfectamente el homenaje a un personaje icónico con una historia entretenida.. obviamente no es perfecta, pero sus aciertos para mí superan con creces sus fallos. Jenna Ortega, sin duda, fue una completa revelación y brilló excepcionalmente en el papel principal.. Hubo personas que se quejaron estúpidamente sobre la caracterización de algunos personajes, es entendible, personas que desconocen el material original pudieron quejarse de la interpretación de Gómez, el padre de Wednesday, tachándolo de "feo", ignorando completamente que en las primeras viñetas de la familia Adams, el personaje de Homero Gómez era más bajo, gordito, con bigote, y no encajaba del todo en los cánones de belleza actuales.

Creo que, de nuevo, las adaptaciones pasadas malacostumbraron a ciertas personas a identificar las nuevas interpretaciones como no fieles.. De igual manera, creo que le dieron mucho trasfondo a Homero, y supongo que, aunque no se exploró completamente toda su vida en la academia, los primeros destellos que se dieron me gustaron mucho, pienso que nunca se había explorado como tal el pasado de los padres.. como se construyó en esta serie.. a mí personalmente me gustó bastante, espero verlo más en la segunda temporada.

To the delight of many, Jenna Ortega has revealed that the second season will avoid teenage themes as much as possible, focusing more on the terrifying, sinister and darker aspects of the Adams family. I give this series a 7.8/10. It's not exceptional enough, but I feel it entertains, surprises and certainly brings back such a well known family in a fresh and interesting way... Obviously, it has a lot of room for improvement, but I'm sure they can do it. It's certainly not afraid to be different, and it doesn't fail to celebrate the strange and the macabre... I'm really looking forward to seeing what season 2 will prepare for us, I hope this character continues to evolve for the better. See you in the next reviews. I'll leave you the trailer below. Para contento de muchos, Jenna Ortega ha revelado que la segunda temporada evitará lo más posible temas adolescentes, enfocándose más en aspectos terroríficos, siniestros y cosas más oscuras características de la familia Adams. Yo le doy a esta serie un 7.8/10. No es suficientemente excepcional, pero siento que entretiene, sorprende y sin duda trae de nuevo a una familia tan conocida de una manera fresca e interesante.. Obviamente, tiene mucho que mejorar, pero estoy seguro que podrán hacerlo. Sin duda no tiene miedo a ser diferente, y no deja de celebrar lo extraño y lo macabro.. realmente estoy ansioso por ver qué nos preparará la segunda temporada, espero que este personaje siga evolucionando para bien.
