Hello everyone dear Movies and TV Shows community. I hope you are feeling great today, this time I want to share with you a review of a movie that without a doubt was one of my favorites of last year/this year. “Godzilla Minus One” is one of those movies that seems to come out of nowhere and without a doubt surprises everyone... when I sat down to watch it, I didn't really know what to expect, I had heard that it was pretty good, that it had been recognized, and even went on to win several important awards within the industry. After the first few minutes of sitting down to watch it, the movie grabbed me with a rather dark atmosphere that reflects a devastated post-war Japan... they certainly created a work that not only pays homage to Godzilla's impressive legacy, but also manages to reinvent it for a new generation.

From the very beginning the film sets a somber and serious tone, I think the Japanese who made this production knew exactly what to do and how to do it. We are introduced to a protagonist named Koichi, who is a former kamikaze pilot who survived the war and is consumed by guilt...his initial encounter with the big kaiju on a deserted island marks him deeply and this guilt haunts him throughout the film. The way the story weaves this emotional plot with the monster's appearances is impressive, this protagonist is not only fighting Godzilla, but you also feel an internal struggle of him versus his own inner demons.

Espero que se encuentren genial en el día de hoy, en esta ocasión les quiero compartir una reseña de una película que sin duda fue de mis favoritas del año pasado/este año. "Godzilla Minus One" es una de esas películas que parece llegar de la nada y sin duda sorprenden a todo el mundo.. cuando me senté a verla, no sabía muy bien qué esperar, había oído que era bastante buena, que había sido reconocida, e incluso llegó a ganar varios premios importantes dentro de la industria. Luego de los primeros minutos sentado viéndola, la película me atrapó con una atmósfera bastante oscura que refleja un Japón postguerra devastado.. sin duda crearon una obra que no solo rinde homenaje al impresionante legado de Godzilla, sino que también logra reinventarlo para una nueva generación.

Desde un principio la película establece un tono sombrío y serio, creo que los japoneses que hicieron esta producción sabían perfectamente qué hacer y cómo hacerlo. Nos presentaron a un protagonista llamado Koichi, quien es un ex piloto kamikaze que sobrevivió a la guerra y que se encuentra consumido por la culpa.. su encuentro inicial con el gran kaiju en una isla desierta lo marca profundamente y esta culpa lo persigue durante toda la película. La manera en la que la historia teje esta trama emocional con las apariciones del monstruo es impresionante, este protagonista no solo está luchando contra Godzilla, sino que también se siente una lucha interna de él versus sus propios demonios internos.

As I mentioned, this film is set in post-war Japan. A setting that was recreated with a very good attention to detail. The sets, costumes and environment manage to transport the viewer to a time of uncertainty and much despair, but it is the way this setting is combined with the incredible special effects that really elevates the film to incredible standards. Despite having a modest budget, Godzilla Minus One uses mock-ups and practical effects that when combined with the creative cinematography that the Japanese have create a visual experience that is both nostalgic and modern.

The film managed to make all the effects used feel very relevant, without losing the essence that made Godzilla a cinematic icon... this time we are presented with the Kaiju as an imposing and terrifying force of nature. From his first appearance it is very clear that this version of Godzilla is not the protector of the earth that we have seen in other adaptations, here Godzilla is an abrupt personification of chaos and destruction, a reminder of the devastating power of nuclear weapons. It's interesting to see a more modern perspective where we are presented with this giant as what was originally a threat... I really enjoyed seeing this perspective, to be honest.

Como les comentaba, esta película está ambientada en el Japón de la posguerra. Un escenario que recrearon con una atención al detalle muy buena.. Los sets, el vestuario y el entorno logran transportar al espectador a una época de incertidumbre y mucha desesperanza, pero es la manera en que se combina esta ambientación con los increíbles efectos especiales lo que realmente eleva la película a estándares increíbles. A pesar de tener un presupuesto modesto, Godzilla Minus One utiliza maquetas y efectos prácticos que cuando se combinan con la cinematografía creativa que tienen los japoneses crean una experiencia visual que es tanto nostálgica como moderna.

La película logró hacer que todos los efectos utilizados se sintieran muy relevantes, sin perder la esencia que hizo a Godzilla un icónico cinematográfico.. en esta ocasión se nos presenta al Kaiju como una fuerza de la naturaleza imponente y aterrador.. Desde su primera aparición queda muy bien claro que esta versión de Godzilla no es el protector de la tierra que hemos visto en otras adaptaciones, aquí Godzilla es una personificación abrupta del caos y la destrucción, un recordatorio del poder devastador que poseen las armas nucleares. Es interesante ver una perspectiva más moderna donde nos presentan a este gigante como lo que en un principio era una amenaza.. a mí me gustó mucho ver esta perspectiva, la verdad.

I found it very interesting and impressive how they manage to convey that sense of horror without resorting to highly exaggerated digital effects... instead, they rely heavily on acting and camera angles that are carefully selected to convey everything they need to in the scene. The music is also a great element that amazingly enhances the tension, it really feels very imposing, both Godzilla and the scenes of despair and destruction. The final confrontation between Koichi and Godzilla is everything one could hope for... without going into too much detail, I can say that the film managed to find a truly spectacular balance to the emotional resolution of the protagonist's arc.

It's an ending that, while perhaps a bit predictable, feels completely satisfying, I loved it. And this is really where the film shines in all its glory... this is not a simple duel between a man and a monster, but a struggle for redemption and acceptance. This twist is much needed in this day and age, because while it's true that what you really want to see is the monster destroying things, to be presented with a story where the humans really connect with the viewers is a great achievement. Something that, unfortunately, the latest Kaiju movies have not achieved well at all.

Me pareció muy interesante e impresionante cómo logran transmitir esa sensación de horror sin recurrir a efectos digitales sumamente exagerados.. en lugar de eso, se apoyan mucho en la actuación y en los ángulos de cámara que están cuidadosamente seleccionados para transmitir todo lo que necesiten en la escena. La música también es un gran elemento que potencia asombradamente la tensión, en verdad se siente muy imponente, tanto Godzilla como las escenas de desesperanza y destrucción. El enfrentamiento final entre Koichi y Godzilla es todo lo que uno podría esperar.. sin entrar en muchos detalles, puedo decir que la película logró encontrar un equilibrio realmente espectacular a la resolución emocional del arco del protagonista.

Es un final que, aunque quizás sea un poco predecible, se siente completamente satisfactorio, a mí me encantó. Y es aquí realmente donde la película brilla en todo su esplendor.. esto no es un simple duelo entre un hombre y un monstruo, sino una lucha por la redención y la aceptación. Este giro de tuerca es muy necesario en la actualidad, ya que, aunque si es verdad que lo que uno quiere ver en sí es al monstruo destruyendo cosas, que nos presenten una historia donde los humanos realmente conecten con los espectadores es un gran logro. Algo que, lastimosamente, las últimas películas del Kaiju no han logrado bien del todo.

This film really stands out in a time when Hollywood seems obsessed with big special effects and gigantic budgets... this film proves that the heart and dedication of a passionate team can overcome any financial constraints. The entire team that developed this film have created something that feels deeply authentic, a work that is not afraid to be different and take risks...it was certainly special. As for the criticisms that the film has received, I must say that there are some that I agree with and some that I don't, although it is true that some aspects of the special effects look dated, I think this is part of the charm of the film. I think that this film does not try to compete with the giant Hollywood productions... it stays very true to its roots and that is what makes it so unique. It is a film that is not afraid to show something...necessary. Simply put, it's a love letter to classic monster movies, made with a deep respect for its legacy and a clear vision of what it wants to accomplish.

Esta película destaca mucho dentro de una época en la que Hollywood parece obsesionado con los grandes efectos especiales y los presupuestos gigantescos.. esta película demuestra que el corazón y la dedicación de un equipo apasionado puede superar cualquier limitación financiera. Todo el equipo que ha desarrollado esta película han creado algo que se siente profundamente auténtico, una obra que no teme ser diferente y tomar riesgo.. sin duda fue especial. En cuanto a las críticas que la película ha recibido, debo decir que hay algunas que comparto y otras que no, aunque es cierto que algunos aspectos de los efectos especiales parecen anticuados, creo que esto es parte del encanto de la película. Opino que esta película no trata de competir con las producciones gigantescas de Hollywood.. se mantiene muy fiel a sus raíces y eso es lo que la hace tan única. Es una película que no teme a mostrar algo..necesario. Simplemente, es una carta de amor al cine clásico de monstruos, hecha con un profundo respeto por su legado y con una visión clara de lo que desea lograr.

I highly recommend this film... I think it conveys important themes such as guilt, redemption and the ability of human beings to face the immeasurable. It is a film that reminds us why cinema is relevant, and that it is not all about visual effects or explosions... But rather the ability to tell human stories, with fantastic and unbelievable touches, must be appreciated. My rating for this film is a solid 9.5/10. It's a film that does have its little imperfections, but it really manages to move you and move you in a way that few films in this genre can achieve... as I said, it's proof that monster movies can be more than just spectacle... it can truly be an art.

So if you have the chance to see it, don't pass it up, it's interesting how a giant monster, or rather a giant lizard, haha, can surprise us, move us and make us witness something really special.... Recomiendo mucho esta película.. creo que transmite importantes temas como la culpa, la redención y la capacidad del ser humano para enfrentarse a lo inconmensurable. Es una película que recuerda por qué el cine es relevante, y es que no todo son efectos visuales o explosiones.. Sino que se tiene que apreciar la capacidad para contar historias humanas, con toques fantásticos e increíbles. Mi calificación para esta película es un sólido 9.5/10. Es una película que sí tiene sus pequeñas imperfecciones, pero que realmente te logra conmover y emocionar de una manera que pocas películas de este género pueden conseguir.. como lo decía, es una prueba de que el cine de monstruos puede ser más que simple espectáculo.. puede ser realmente un arte.

Así que si tienes la oportunidad de verla, no la dejes pasar, es interesante como un monstruo gigante, o mejor dicho una lagartija gigante, jaja, puede sorprendernos, conmovernos y hacernos testigos de algo realmente especial..
