Hello everyone, fellow fans of good stories! I hope you are feeling super well today, I want to share with you my thoughts on a very award winning movie, but one that I only saw recently. That's right, I'm talking about: CODA. This movie is one of those that touches your heart without the need of great traumas or tragedies. At the beginning of this story we meet Ruby, played by Emilia Jones, a young woman who is the only hearing person in her deaf family. This makes her the bridge of communication between her family, and the world around them, which is not an easy task, and even more so when faced with the pressures of adolescence and how she has to deal with her desire to be a singer. This film is a remake of a French film called 'The Bélier Family'.

Although I have not seen the original version, this specific one stands on its own because of a very genuine and emotional approach. The plot begins to unfold in a way that makes us connect deeply with each member of the family, especially Ruby, who is torn between her family responsibilities and her personal aspirations. It is evident the emotional burden this girl has, she wakes up early every morning to help her family as much as she can in their business, before going to school... where she faces the typical difficulties of a teenager. The acting is very good, I feel she managed to convey very well the mix of love, frustration, and determination of her character.. and well, she not only deals with her family, as I said, she has her own fears and insecurities about her musical talent, and this affects her a lot too.

¡Hola a todos, amigos fanáticos de las buenas historias! Espero que se encuentren súper bien el día de hoy, quiero compartirles mis opiniones sobre una película muy galardonada, pero que yo vi hace poco. Así es, hablo de: CODA. Esta película es de esas que te llegan al corazón sin necesidad de grandes traumas o tragedias. Al principio de esta historia conoceremos a Ruby, interpretada por Emilia Jones, una joven la cual es la única oyente en su familia sorda.. Esto la convierte en el puente de comunicación entre su familia, y el mundo que los rodea, lo cual no es una tarea nada fácil, y aún más cuando se enfrenta a las presiones de la adolescencia y como tiene que lidiar con sus deseos de ser cantante. Esta película es un remake de una película francesa llamada 'La familia Bélier'.

Aunque no he visto la versión original, esta en específico se sostiene por si misma gracias a un enfoque muy genuino y emotivo.. La trama empieza a desarrollarse de una manera que nos hace conectar profundas con cada miembro de la familia, especialmente con Ruby, quien está debatiéndose entre sus responsabilidades familiares y sus aspiraciones personales. Es evidente la carga emocional que tiene esta chica, ella se despierta temprano todas más mañana para ayudar lo más que puede a su familia en su negocio, antes de ir a la escuela.. donde enfrenta las dificultades típicas de un adolescente. La actuación es muy buena, siento que logro transmitir muy buen la mezcla de amor, frustración, y determinación de su personaje.. y bueno, ella no solo lidia con su familia, como les dije, tiene sus propios miedos e inseguridades sobre su talento musical, y esto la afecta bastante también.

One of the highlights of this film, is Ruby's relationship with her family.... Her father and her mother provide moments of humor and tenderness that go very well with the tone of the film... Most of the family scenes are touching, especially when they show all those barriers and misunderstandings that arise due to deafness. The dynamic between Ruby and her brother is also interesting, showing how both can feel trapped in specific roles within the family dynamic.

Another thing, is the soundtrack, and not only as part of Ruby's story, but it is used as a vehicle to express different emotions. The scenes in which Ruby sings are very touching, you can really see all the talent and passion of this young woman. All of this complements very well in a somewhat ironic sense, but I thought it was great. The direction is subtle, but really effective, instead of doing something extravagant, here the different characters speak for themselves, they feel real, and that helps the viewers to connect more directly with what they are seeing, it is a story that could perfectly happen in real life, you feel the importance of addressing issues such as family love, self-acceptance, and of course, the struggle to follow your dreams. All this presented in a very calm, but not boring, but interesting way.

Uno de los aspectos más destacados de esta película, es la relación de Ruby con su familia.. Su padre, y su madre aportan momentos de humor y ternura que van muy bien con el tono de la película.. La mayoría de escenas familiares son conmovedoras, especialmente cuando muestran todas aquellas barreras y malentendidos que surgen debido a la sordera. La dinámica entre Ruby y su hermano, también es interesante, mostrando como ambos pueden sentirse atrapados en roles específicos dentro de la dinámica familiar.

Otra cosa, es la banda sonora, y no solo como parte de la historia de Ruby, sino que es utilizada como un vehículo para expresar distintas emociones. Las escenas en las que Ruby canta son muy conmovedoras, se ve realmente todo el talento y la pasión de esta joven. Todo esto complementa muy bien en un sentido un tanto irónico, pero que me pareció genial. La dirección es sutil, pero realmente efectiva, en lugar de hacer algo extravagante, aquí los diferentes personajes hablan por si mismos, se sienten reales, y eso ayuda a que los espectadores puedan conectar de manera más directa con lo que están viendo, es una historia que puede pasar perfectamente en la vida real, se siente la importancia de abordar temas como el amor familiar, la autoaceptación, y claro, la lucha por seguir tus sueños. Todo esto presentado en una forma muy calmada, pero no aburrida, sino interesante.

A very interesting aspect of CODA is its interesting portrayal of the deaf community. This film not only shows all the challenges faced by people with this disability, but also emphasizes their strengths and the richness of their culture, something I personally was unaware of. The inclusion of American Sign Language (ASL) is a very significant detail that adds a lot of authenticity to the work.... Watching the actors communicate in ASL is a curious educational and enriching experience for the audience, especially for those who have not had much contact with deaf people, as is my case.

Although the plot that unfolds may seem a bit predictable, in some respects, this does not diminish the impact or importance of this film. The film draws on the familiar narrative arc, but does so in a way that doesn't feel like overblown fiction, that warmth, and the ability to move, is not achieved by just any film. The scenes where there is conflict, and later reconciliation, are very nice to watch....

Un aspecto muy interesante de CODA, es su representación tan interesante de la comunidad sorda. Esta película no solo muestra todos los desafíos que enfrentan las personas con esta discapacidad, sino que también hace énfasis en sus fortalezas y en la riqueza de su cultura, algo que yo personalmente desconocía. La incluso del lenguaje de señas americano (ASL) es un detalle muy significativo que añade mucha autenticidad a la obra.. Ver a los actores comunicarse en ASL, es una curiosa experiencia educativa y enriquecedora para el público, en especial para aquellos que no han tenido mucho contacto con personas sordas, como es mi caso.

Aunque la trama que se desarrolla puede parecer un poquito predecible, en algunos aspectos, esto no disminuye el impacto o la importancia que tiene esta película. La película recurre al arco narrativo familiar, pero lo hace de una manera que no se siente como ficción exagerada, esa calidez, y la capacidad para conmover, no lo logra cualquier película. Las escenas donde hay conflictos, y posteriormente reconciliación, resultan muy lindas de ver..

One moment I really liked was when Ruby has to make a crucial decision about her future. There is a lot of tension, and you feel the difficulty between following her dreams, or staying by her family's side. All this without ever losing the feeling of empathy... the resolution is very satisfying, and leaves a very positive message for the viewers. This movie can really touch your heart, in a deep way.. I thought the performances were very good, especially the lead, who carries an emotional burden with grace and admirable authenticity. The direction is very good, and they give each character a chance to shine on their own. And of course, the theme of including the deaf community in this type of story, along with their sign language, adds more educational dynamics to the narrative.

I give it a 9/10 rating. It is a very nice movie that I hope you can see, it has very interesting and necessary messages, and it is a very good representation of deaf families, all that together with the great message that is to fight for your dreams. Un momento que realmente me gustó, fue cuando Ruby debe tomar una decisión crucial sobre su futuro. Hay mucha tensión, y se siente la dificultad entre seguir sus sueños, o permanecer al lado de su familia. Todo esto sin perder en ningún momento el sentimiento de empatía.. la resolución es muy satisfactoria, y deja un mensaje muy positivo para los espectadores. Esta película realmente puede tocarte el corazón, de una manera profunda.. Las actuaciones me parecieron muy buenas, especialmente la de la protagonista, quien lleva una carga emocional con gracia y una autenticidad admirable. La dirección es muy buena, y hacen que cada personaje tenga la oportunidad de brillar por sí mismos. Y claro, el tema de la inclusión de la comunidad sorda en este tipo de historias, junto con su lenguaje de señas, añade más dinámica educativa a la narrativa.

Le doy una calificación de 9/10. Es una película muy linda que espero puedan ver, tiene mensajes muy interesantes y necesarios, y es una muy buena representación de las familias sordas, todo eso junto al gran mensaje que es luchar por tus sueños.
