Today I will talk about Booksmart, a movie that has a certain spark that grabs you from the very beginning... I think the direction, the performances, and everything in general in this youth comedy directed by Olivia Wilde seems to be different, it has an energy and freshness that I found unusual. It's a film that obviously doesn't reinvent anything, but offers a somewhat interesting twist to the typical teen story that was quite entertaining and funny. The plot follows two straight-A students, Amy and Molly, who have spent their entire school life focusing solely on their studies...they were always the smart, nerdy girls who did everything right. However, on the eve of their graduation they discover that all those classmates who seemed to be just having fun also got into top colleges...

This makes them rethink that they really took advantage of their youth and were able to take advantage of the last night before graduation to experience all the fun they missed out on during the past few years. One of the most interesting points of this film is the relationship between the two protagonists, the chemistry between them is very palpable, and from the beginning you feel that they are true lifelong friends. The dialogue between them is always full of interesting jokes and endearing moments that make you laugh before the game. The script achieves something that few teen comedies do, develop characters that feel genuine and complex, they are not just stereotypical girls, although in certain parts of the film that is the point.. but they also feel like they have interesting emotions and motivations that transcend the typical nerdy teenage boy or rebellious teenage boy narrative...

Hola a todos fanáticos de las buenas historias a esta ocasión.. quiero convocarte a una nueva reseña, esta vez de una película bastante interesante que acabó sorprendiéndome mucho más de lo que esperaba. Hoy hablaré de Booksmart, una película que tiene cierta chispa que te atrapa desde el principio.. Creo que la dirección, las actuaciones, y todo en general en esta comedia juvenil dirigida por Olivia Wilde parece ser diferente, tiene una energía y frescura que me resultó inusual. Es una película que obviamente no reinventa nada, sino que ofrece un giro algo interesante a la típica historia de adolescentes que resultó bastante entretenida y divertida. La trama sigue a dos estudiantes sobresalientes, Amy y Molly, quienes han pasado toda su vida escolar enfocándose únicamente en sus estudios.. siempre fueron las chicas listas y nerds que lo hacían todo bien. Sin embargo, en la víspera de su graduación descubren que todos esos compañeros que parecían solo divertirse también lograron ingresar a las mejores universidades..

Esto las hace replantearse que realmente aprovecharon su juventud y pudieron aprovechar la última noche antes de graduarse para vivir toda la diversión que perdieron durante los últimos años. Uno de los puntos más interesantes de esta película es la relación entre las dos protagonistas, la química entre ellas es muy palpable, y desde el comienzo se siente que son verdaderas amigas de toda la vida. El diálogo entre ellas está siempre lleno de bromas interesantes y momentos entrañables que te hacen reírse antes del partido. El guion logra algo que pocas comedias juveniles hacen, desarrollar personajes que se sienten genuinos y complejos, no son solo chicas estereotipadas, aunque en ciertas partes de la película ese es el punto.. pero también se sienten con emociones y motivaciones interesantes que trascienden la típica narrativa del adolescente nerd o el adolescente rebelde..

Another aspect I liked about the film is its pacing. Most teen comedies tend to fall into filler moments or scenes that add almost nothing to the story, but here, every moment felt like a necessary piece within the narrative.... The plot moves along at a good pace, not stopping too much in one scene, but not rushing all the others either, the focus on everything happening in one night gives it a sense of urgency that keeps the viewer entertained and glued to the screen, waiting to see what the girls will try to do next or what absurd situations they will get into...

Something I noticed, and I think it deserves to be mentioned, is how this movie relies on the music.. the soundtrack is present during much of the movie and helps a lot to set the tone of many funny scenes, sometimes it can feel a bit overwhelming, especially in some sequences where it seems like the music takes the leading role and overshadows the actors, but despite this, for the most part, the music reinforces well all the emotions the main characters are feeling...

As for the direction, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, for Olivia Wilde's directorial debut, she proves to have an interesting eye for detail and also keeps her eye on a comedy that, despite being just that, a comedy, also feels timeless.... You can play it to adults or younger people and they'll probably enjoy it just as much. I think it manages to rescue a visual and narrative style, which I feel gives it a unique touch, the way the film conveys vibrant colors and obviously its pace, it is entertaining from beginning to end...

Otro aspecto que me gustó de la película es su ritmo. La mayoría de comedias juveniles tienden a caer en momentos de relleno o escenas que no aportan casi nada a la historia, pero aquí, cada momento lo sentí como una pieza necesaria dentro de la narrativa.. La trama avanza a buen ritmo, sin detenerse demasiado en una escena, pero tampoco apresura todas las otras, el enfoque en que todo ocurre en una sola noche le da una sensación de urgencia que mantiene al espectador entretenido y pegado a la pantalla, esperando ver qué será lo siguiente que las chicas intentarán hacer o en qué situaciones absurdas se meterán..

Algo que noté, y creo que merece mencionarse, es cómo esta película se apoya en la música.. la banda sonora está presente durante gran parte de la película y ayuda mucho a establecer el tono de muchas escenas graciosas, a veces puede sentirse como un poco abrumadora, especialmente en algunas secuencias donde parece que la música toma el papel protagonista y que eclipsa a los actores, pero a pesar de esto, en su gran mayoría, la música refuerza bien todas las emociones que están sintiendo los protagonistas..

En cuanto a la dirección, tengo que decir que me sorprendió gratamente, para ser el debut de Olivia Wilde como directora, demuestra tener un ojo interesante para los detalles y también se mantiene atento a una comedia que, a pesar de ser eso, una comedia, también se siente atemporal.. Puedes ponérsela a adultos o a más jóvenes y seguramente la disfrutarán de igual manera. Creo que logra rescatar un estilo visual y narrativo, lo que siento que le da un toque único, la forma en la que la película le transmite unos colores vibrantes y obviamente su ritmo, nace entretenida desde el principio a fin..

However, if I get a little analytical, like most movies they also have their bad things. While I laughed quite a bit, there were some jokes that didn't quite land correctly... Obviously, being a comedy movie entirely, this was a foregone conclusion... at certain moments you can tell that the actresses are improvising or trying to drag out a joke longer than necessary, which can sometimes make the scene feel a bit forced... It's not something that ruins the movie, but it's something I noticed that took me out of the experience a bit at times.

Among other things, I liked how the film handles some themes, although, as I told you, the overall intention is to be funny, it is not afraid to touch on topics like identity and social pressure... The film shows in an intelligent way that there is no one right way to live adolescence, and that the balance between work and fun is crucial. I really liked how it takes away, so to speak, the idea that just because some people have fun or make different choices, that doesn't mean they can't be successful or aren't smart. It's an important lesson that many youth films fail to convey effectively.

Sin embargo, si me pongo un poco analítico, como la mayoría de películas también tienen sus cosas malas. Si bien me reí bastante, hubo algunos chistes que no terminaron de aterrizar correctamente.. Obviamente, al ser una película de comedia enteramente, esto se veía venir.. en ciertos momentos se nota que las actrices están improvisando o tratando de alargar una broma más de lo necesario, lo que a veces puede hacer que la escena se sienta un poco forzada.. No es algo que arruine la película, pero es algo que noté y que me sacó un poco de la experiencia en algunos momentos.

Entre otras cosas, me gustó como la película maneja algunos temas, aunque, como les dije, la intención general es dar gracia, no tiene miedo a tocar temas como la identidad y la presión social.. La cinta muestra de manera inteligente que no existe una única forma correcta de vivir la adolescencia, y que el equilibrio entre el trabajo y la diversión es crucial. Me gustó mucho como quita, por así decirlo, la idea de que solo porque algunas personas se diviertan o tomen decisiones distintas, eso no significa que no puedan ser exitosos o que no sean inteligentes. Es una lección importante que muchas películas juveniles fallan en transmitir de manera efectiva.

In terms of performances, both actresses stand out... they have an interesting charisma on screen and it's hard not to be charmed by their characters. And the supporting characters also do well, especially Billie Lourd, who plays an eccentric and very spontaneous girl. I think she's one of the ones who steals a lot of the scenes where people are very funny...I think Booksmart is a comedy that, while not perfect, offers an entertaining experience. It's a film that manages to perfectly balance the fun and the slightly more serious moments, and it has a very important message that I think may resonate with many viewers.

I highly recommend it, especially for those who enjoy teen comedies and just want a good laugh and aren't looking for too much drama. My final rating is an 8/10. It is a movie that I would describe as authentic. It has endearing characters and although it has some moments that don't quite land, it left me very satisfied in the end. En términos de actuaciones, ambas actrices se destacan.. tienen un carisma interesante en la pantalla y es difícil no quedar encantado con sus personajes. Y los personajes secundarios también lo hacen bien, especialmente Billie Lourd, quien interpreta a una chica excéntrica y muy espontánea. Creo que es una de las cuales se roban muchas de las escenas en la que la gente es muy divertida.. creo que Booksmart es una comedia que, aunque no sea perfecta, ofrece una experiencia entretenida. Es una película que logra equilibrar perfectamente la diversión y los momentos un poquito más serios, y tiene un mensaje muy importante que creo puede resonar en muchos espectadores.

La recomiendo altamente, especialmente para aquellos que disfrutan de las comedias juveniles y que solo quieren reírse un rato y no buscan demasiado drama. Mi calificación final es un 8/10. Es una película que la describiría como auténtica. Tiene personajes entrañables y aunque tiene algunos momentos que no aterrizan del todo, me dejó muy satisfecho al final.
