Hello everyone! I hope you all are well today, and that you had a great week dear Movies and TV Shows community. Recently, I watched a series that was making waves a few months ago, and like most times, I'm joining in on the popular stuff a little late haha. I'll share with you today my thoughts on the series, Netflix's Baby Reindeer. Upon finishing it, it left me with some mixed feelings. This series is based on some true events... it follows the story of Donnie, a bartender who dreams of being a comedian, but whose life takes a turn when he meets a mysterious woman at the place where he works.

This series captures your attention with an interesting premise, and that certain dark tone.... Donnie is a very empathetic character, but also slightly tormented, the series manages to convey the sense of unease and constant danger very well and effectively. As Donnie becomes more and more involved in the life of this girl, Marta, it starts to haunt him... and the tension grows, thinking about how weird it is. There are very good performances, for example Jessica Gunning as the stalker Marta is very convincing... she has a lot of ability to show that instability to the point that it seems totally true, every time she appears on screen you just don't know what to expect and that gives a lot of points to this series, it really makes you feel uncomfortable, just as it happens with Donnie.

Hola a todos! Espero se encuentren bien el día de hoy, y que hayan tenido una gran semana querida comunidad de Movies and TV Shows. Recientemente, vi una serie que estuvo causando furor hace unos meses, y como la mayoría de veces, me sumo a las cosas populares algo tarde jaja. Les compartiré hoy mis opiniones sobre la serie: Baby Reindeer de Netflix. Al terminarla me dejó algunos sentimientos encontrados. Esta serie está basada en algunos hechos reales.. sigue la historia de Donnie, un bartender que sueña con ser un comediante, pero cuya vida da un giro cuando conoce a una mujer misteriosa en el lugar donde trabaja.

Esta serie captura tu atención con una premisa interesante, y ese cierto tono oscuro.. Donnie es un personaje muy empático, pero también ligeramente atormentado, la serie logra transmitir muy bien la sensación de inquietud y peligro constante de manera efectiva. A medida que Donnie se ve envuelto más y más en la vida de esta chica, Marta, esto lo empieza a acosar.. y la tensión crece, pensando en lo raro que es. Hay muy buenas actuaciones, por ejemplo la de Jessica Gunning como la acosadora Marta es muy convincente.. tiene mucha habilidad para mostrar esa inestabilidad al punto de que parece totalmente verdadera, cada vez que aparece en pantalla simplemente no sabes que esperar y eso le da muchos puntos a esta serie, en serio logra que te sientas incómodo, tal y como pasa igual con Donnie.

It also tackles issues like abuse and trauma in a realistic way...it does it in a good way that doesn't feel forced. There is a balance between a bit of comedy, and the main drama, which is great for keeping you on your toes. One fact is that the main character is also the creator of the series and I think this helped to convey in a very good way what he had planned for the story... anyway, there is no more ideal person to carry out our desires than oneself. As I said, there is a certain dark humor that makes you smile despite the seriousness of the plot, which I thought was good so that it wasn't just tension and intrigue.

One of the things I liked the most is the emphasis on the complexity of human emotions. The main character, Donnie, despite feeling really scared and harassed, also shows empathy towards Marta, I managed to perceive some duality in his behavior, this adds a lot of depth to his character and clearly makes you question how you would actually react in a similar situation, as it is very easy to judge from the outside, and this is why the series invites you to put yourself in Donnie's shoes, and understand the emotional chaos he is living.

And the way they tell this story, the narrative, is interesting... They use some flashbacks and non-linear storytelling techniques to slowly unravel Donnie's story and clearly his relationship with Martha. These little flashbacks not only serve to give you context, but help to understand the complex personal or emotional scars he carries with him. There are also memorable scenes where the importance of communication is explained, especially when in a complicated situation...

También se abordan temas como el abuso y el trauma de una manera realista.. lo hace de una forma buena que no se siente forzada. Hay un equilibrio entre un poco de comedia, y el drama principal, lo cual es ideal para mantenerte al pendiente. Un dato, es que el protagonista, también es el creador de la serie y creo que esto ayudo a transmitir de muy buena manera lo que el mismo tenía planeado para la historia.. de todas formas, no hay persona más ideal para llevar a cabo nuestros deseos que uno mismo. Cómo les decía, hay cierto humor oscuro que te hacen sonreír a pesar de la seriedad de la trama, lo cual me pareció bien para que no solo fuera tensión e intriga.

Una de las cosas que más me gustaron, es como se hace énfasis en la complejidad de las emociones humanas.. El protagonista, Donnie, a pesar de sentirse realmente asustado y acosado, también muestra empatía hacia Marta, logré percibir cierta dualidad en su comportamiento, esto añade mucha profundidad a su personaje y claramente te hace cuestionar como en realidad reaccionarias tú en una situación similar, ya que es muy fácil juzgar desde afuera, y es por esto que la serie te invita a ponerte en los zapatos de Donnie, y entender el caos emocional que está viviendo.

Y la manera de contar esta historia, la narrativa, es interesante.. Utilizan algunos flashbacks y técnicas de narración no lineal para poco a poco desentrañar la historia de Donnie y claramente la relación de él con Marta. Estos pequeños flashbacks no solo sirven para darte contexto, sino que ayudan a entender las complejas cicatrices personales o emocionales que lleva consigo. También hay escenas memorables donde se explica la importancia de la comunicación, especialmente al estar en una situación complicada..

Another thing that caught my attention was how the series does not conform or limit itself to simply being a common psychological thriller. It presents a very interesting reflection on the search for validation and the desire to be appreciated that surely some of us feel at some point. We see how Donnie, in his quest to achieve his goal of becoming a comedian, finds himself caught in a mix of questionable decisions and some dangerous situations. The series asks you, with its two main characters, how far we are willing to go to achieve that thing we desire and how far we can stray from righteousness in the process.

As for more technical aspects... well it's a normal series, it's well done... it has good cinematography that plays a bit with camera angles, and some lights to increase the feeling of claustrophobia and paranoia, I thought it was a nice touch. The music is also ideal, especially in moments of tension and suspense, adding more weight to those scenes.

Otra cosa que me llamo la atención, fue como la serie no se conforma ni se limita a ser simplemente un thriller psicológico común. Ya que te presenta una reflexión muy interesante sobre la búsqueda de la validación y el deseo de ser apreciado que seguramente alguno de nosotros en algún punto llegamos a sentir. Vemos como Donnie, en su búsqueda por alcanzar su meta de convertirse en un comediante, se encuentra atrapado en una mezcla de decisiones cuestionables y algunas situaciones peligrosas. La serie te plantea, con sus dos protagonistas, el cómo hasta qué punto estamos dispuestos a llegar para alcanzar esa cosa que deseamos y que tan lejos podemos desviarnos de la rectitud en el proceso.

En cuanto a aspectos más técnicos.. pues es una serie normal, está bien realizada.. tiene una cinematografía buena que juega un poco con los ángulos de cámara, y algunas luces para aumentar la sensación de claustrofobia y paranoia, me pareció un buen toque. La música también es ideal, especialmente en los momentos de tensión y suspenso, añadiendo más peso a dichas escenas.

It is a series that I enjoyed, it touches on very good topics... I would give it a rating of 8.5/10. It manages to keep you hooked from beginning to end, with memorable performances and a plot that leaves you thinking a lot. Clearly, it could be weird for some people because of some of the topics it deals with, but I think the way it deals with them was ideal. If I would recommend it, it's worth giving it a chance, it ends up being an emotional journey that invites you to confront your own thoughts, and empathy. It's good to see what some important things like bullying and trauma are portrayed, without needing to romanticize anything. If you like thrillers and series like this with psychological themes, give it a chance. Es una serie que disfrute, toca temas muy buenos.. le daría una calificación de 8.5/10. Si logra muy bien mantenerte enganchado de principio a fin, con unas actuaciones memorables y una trama que te deja pensando mucho. Claramente, podría resultar rara por algunos temas que trata, para algunas personas, pero igual la manera de abordarlos creo que fue la ideal. Si la recomendaría, vale la pena darle una oportunidad, termina siendo un viaje emocional que te invita a confrontar tus propios pensamientos, y empatía. Es bueno ver qué se representan algunas cosas importantes como el acoso y el trauma, sin necesidad de romantizar nada.
