The reckoning revolves around a young widow-Grace Haverstock (Charlotte Kirk) who was accused of being a witch.

Set in England 1665, a great plague visited the countryside and took away the life of Joseph Haverstock (Joe Anderson) and many other lives, there was an increase in the fear and superstition in the countryside. After Grace's husband—Joseph died, she had to look after herself and her infant daughter—Abigail. Grace fell into financial distress and her landlord—Squire Pendleton (Steven Waddington) took advantage of the situation, making detestable and unwanted advances towards her. Grace strongly refused his advances, Pendleton saw this as an insult and swore to take revenge.

To get back at her, he framed her as a witch. Due to the happenings in the countryside, it was hard to refute such claims. Grace was soon arrested, imprisoned and had to undergo inhumane and horrific interrogation by a well-known witch hunter—Judge Moorcroft (Sean Pertwee). Judge Moorcroft was an infamous witch hunter who had killed thousands of women, Grace's mother included, after torturing them and leaving them with no choice but to confess that they were witches even when they were not.

Due to the relentless torture Moorcroft meted out to Grace, she started hallucinating and seeing the devil!! but one couldn't tell if she really was a witch or or if she was hallucinating, because of the intense torture. Determined, Grace promised herself to overcome the waves of torture, to vindicate herself and live for her daughter.

The question is…was Grace really able to stay alive considering the intense pain from the witch hunter, the the man who felt insulted because he didn't have his way (Pendleton) or the people who already had the belief that she was a witch??
Her chances of survival were very slim!

Review:
One lesson this movie taught is to be strong and to hold on to the truth without compromising, even in the face of trials. A great movie with the female lead delivering a strong performance
The Witch is worth the watch
8.5/10 stars.

Thank you for reading.

Interesting storyline, and you sure did keep me interested to find out what happens to Grace next.
I'm hoping it will have a happy ending, history can't repeat itself. Nice review.
