Among the cathodic memories of my childhood is this group that I first saw on a very successful Saturday programme in my country. I didn't even know where they were from. To me, as an innocent child, I saw them as men in costumes, some of them very feminine looking, wearing high heels. Something I confirmed when one of my aunts exclaimed that they were gay. I had no idea about that. I was struck by the extravagant costumes and the big fans.
The music was catchy, party music for fun. The lyrics were not deep at all. They were just phrases without much meaning. As time went by, I understood better the disco style of music and that its aim was to have a good time.
The music group Locomia was very successful not only in Spain. In Latin American countries they were also a musical phenomenon. On the radio stations in my country they were played all the time. Of course, this is a technique used and paid for by the production companies so that after repeating a song so much on the radio, in a short time people remember it and like it. Nothing is random. Everything is prepared. Just like this group, which is a prefabricated product of a music producer.
Entre los recuerdos catódicos de mi infancia está este grupo que la primera vez que vi fue en un programa sabatino de mucho éxito en mi país. Ni siquiera sabía de dónde eran. Para mí, como niño inocente, los veía como hombres disfrazados, algunos de aspecto muy femenino, que llevaban tacones altos. Algo que confirmé cuando una de mis tías exclamó que eran gays. Yo no tenía ni idea de eso. Me llamaron la atención los disfraces extravagantes y los grandes abanicos.
La música era pegadiza, música de fiesta para divertirse. Las letras no eran profundas en absoluto. Eran sólo frases sin mucho sentido. Con el paso del tiempo, comprendí mejor el estilo de música disco y que su objetivo era pasarlo bien.
El grupo musical Locomia tuvo mucho éxito no sólo en España. En los países latinoamericanos también fueron un fenómeno musical. En las emisoras de radio de mi país los ponían a todas horas. Claro que esta es una técnica utilizada y pagada por las productoras para que de tanto repetir una canción en la radio, en poco tiempo la gente la recuerde y le guste. Nada es al azar. Todo está preparado. Igual que este grupo que es un producto prefabricado de un productor musical.
As successful and exciting as it was, the group gradually faded into obscurity. They would not be forgotten. Locomia is part of the history of the Spanish-speaking music world. At every party, the DJs play some of their old hits. It is also recurrent that the name Locomia comes up to make jokes about someone's sexual tendency.
I was never interested in investigating the causes of Locomia's dissolution. I was completely unaware of the legal tangle that involved the music producer who catapulted them to success and the members of the group. It was a story that could have been exploited for many years, but when money, power and fame are involved, ego always gets in the way.
This film is a musical biopic that sheds some light on the rise, rise and fall of Locomía. As with any work based on real events, many events have been altered and not everything happened as it appears on screen. If we want to unravel the whole conflict of the Locomia group, we have to look for information on the Internet. The film recreates the most important events of the Locomia group, and it has a good tone, a bunch of good performances and above all it makes it fun.
I had a good time watching the film. It is entertaining. It doesn't try to be a serious and very formal biopic. It's locomia, so the fun and excesses had to be present. The film is not quite rounded. It delivers as a biopic, all the fun stuff makes it sacrifice a bit of the narrative, which seems to speed up too abruptly in its final stretch.
Por muy exitoso y emocionante que fuera, el grupo fue decayendo hasta desaparecer. No caerían en el olvido. Locomia forma parte de la historia del mundo musical hispanohablante. En cada fiesta, los DJ pinchan algunos de sus viejos éxitos. También es recurrente que surja el nombre de Locomia para hacer chistes referidos a la tendencia sexual de alguien.
Nunca me interesó investigar las causas de la disolución de Locomia. Desconocía por completo toda la maraña legal en la que se vieron envueltos el productor musical que les catapultó al éxito y los miembros del grupo. Era una historia que podría haber seguido explotándose durante muchos años, pero cuando hay dinero, poder y fama de por medio, el ego siempre se interpone.
Esta película es un biopic musical que arroja algo de luz sobre el ascenso, auge y caída de Locomía. Como toda obra basada en hechos reales, muchos acontecimientos han sido alterados y no todo sucedió como aparece en la pantalla. Si queremos desentrañar todo el conflicto del grupo Locomia, tenemos que buscar información en Internet. La película recrea los acontecimientos más importantes del grupo Locomia, y tiene un buen tono, un grupo de buenas interpretaciones y sobre todo lo hace divertido.
He pasado un buen rato viendo la película. Es entretenida. No intenta ser un biopic serio y muy formal. Es locomía, así que la diversión y los excesos tenían que estar presentes. La película no es del todo redonda. Cumple como biopic, todo lo divertido hace que sacrifique un poco la narración, que parece acelerarse de forma muy brusca en su tramo final.
At the centre of the story is Xavi Font, the leader of the group. His dreams of being a great designer, the discrimination he suffers for being homosexual and his relationship with desire and excess. Of course, he is the leader of this gang of friends who consider themselves an army of dragons. But everything goes wrong when suddenly money and fame arrive.
The other important character in all this is José Luis Gil, the music producer, whose career has been full of success. He had already made a name for himself in the industry. He was a shark in the music industry. Raffaela Carra, Raphael, among many other big stars, had been under his control. Although Xavi is the leader of the group, the producer is also the creator of all the success that surrounded them. There is no denying it. This kind of conflict between artists and producers is very common. Some may have the artistic talent, but others have the capital and the contacts to transform them into superstars.
Spanish actor Jaime Lorente is in charge of bringing Xavi Font to life. I like him and you can see the effort he puts into playing the character. Alberto Amman also does an excellent job as Jose Luis Gil and stars in one of the scenes that made me laugh a lot. Blanca Suares plays Lurdes Iribar, the only woman in the group and Font's best friend. The rest of the cast has its moments to highlight.
If you want to know more about Locomía, this is a very funny biopic. I recommend it.

El centro de la historia es Xavi Font, el líder del grupo. Sus sueños de ser un gran diseñador, la discriminación que sufre por ser homosexual y su relación con el deseo y los excesos. Por supuesto, él es el líder de esta pandilla de amigos que se consideran un ejército de dragones. Pero todo se tuerce cuando de repente llegan el dinero y la fama.
El otro personaje importante en todo esto es José Luis Gil, el productor musical, cuya carrera ha estado llena de éxitos. Ya se había hecho un nombre en la industria. Era un tiburón de la industria musical. Raffaela Carra, Raphael, entre otras muchas grandes estrellas, habían estado bajo su control. Aunque Xavi sea es el líder del grupo, el productor es también el creador de todo el éxito que les rodeaba. No se puede negar. Este tipo de conflicto entre artistas y productores es muy común. Puede que algunos tengan el talento artístico, pero otros tienen el capital y los contactos para transformarlos en superestrellas.
El actor español Jaime Lorente es el encargado de dar vida a Xavi Font. Me gusta y se nota el esfuerzo que pone en interpretar al personaje. Alberto Amman también hace un excelente trabajo como Jose Luis Gil y protagoniza una de las escenas que me hizo reír mucho. Blanca Suares interpreta a Lurdes Iribar, la única mujer del grupo y la mejor amiga de Font. El resto del reparto tiene sus momentos para destacar.
Si quieres saber más sobre Locomía, este es un biopic muy divertido. Te la recomiendo.

La verdad es que me hiciste viajar en el tiempo! También los veía pero ni idea si eran gays o que, yo veía unos diseños increíbles, los abanicos, las voces y la forma de bailar y eso me encantaba. Tampoco sabía, hasta ahora, el porqué de la decadencia del grupo, cosa que si me llamó la atención su desaparición.
Como mencionas cuando hay dinero de por medio todo se complica, más si hay personas de mala fe.
