A favourite film? [En-Es]
What is your favourite film? This is a very common question we are asked when we express that we love watching films. I think we should now also add the question of what is your favourite series.
¿Cuál es su película favorita? Es una pregunta muy habitual que nos hacen cuando expresamos que nos encanta ver películas. Creo que ahora habría que añadir también esa pregunta sobre cuál es la serie favorita.
Probably among those who ask this question there is a group of people who are just looking for a banal conversation, out of compromise, because they are not interested in cinema at all. Other people ask this question to find out what our cinematic tastes are and if we have something in common, or perhaps others are trying to find out our personality based on our favourite film.
I think this question is always wrongly formulated. The question should be: What are your favourite films? The cinematic universe is very vast, variety of narrative genres, incredible stories, thousands of well-known directors, thousands of world-famous movie stars, films from different countries, languages, cultures. It is impossible to say that we have only one favourite film.
When I ask that question, I ask them to tell me about some of their favourite films of all time, to see if that other cinephile has similar tastes to mine. I'm happy to find people who appreciate some of the works that I consider must-see. Although this is all very subjective, there are many factors that come into play in determining what your favourites are. It's even likely that, although we have similar favourites, we like them for different reasons.
As I have said on many occasions, the stories that have stuck in my mind (and in my soul) are the ones that first touch my sensibility. The ones that make me feel an emotion, be it happiness or extreme sadness. Another factor is that they are quite earthy stories, with very human reactions. It doesn't matter if the story is set in a fantasy world, the most important thing for me is that the development of the characters is coherent and plausible with the behaviour. It is the conjunction of these two elements that makes a film one of my favourites. When I find a story where this combination is perfect, it's the one that stays with me.
Probablemente entre los que hacen esta pregunta hay un grupo de personas que sólo buscan una conversación banal, por compromiso, porque no les interesa el cine en absoluto. Otras personas hacen esa pregunta para saber cuáles son nuestros gustos cinematográficos y si tenemos algo en común, o quizá otros intentan averiguar nuestra personalidad en función de nuestra película favorita.
Creo que esta pregunta siempre está mal formulada. La pregunta debería ser: ¿Cuáles son sus películas favoritas? El universo cinematográfico es muy vasto, variedad de géneros narrativos, historias increíbles, miles de directores conocidos, miles de estrellas de cine mundialmente conocidas, películas de diferentes países, idiomas, culturas. Es imposible decir que sólo tenemos una película favorita.
Cuando hago esa pregunta, les pido que me cuenten algunas de sus películas favoritas de todos los tiempos, para ver si ese otro cinéfilo tiene gustos similares a los míos. Me alegra encontrar gente que aprecia algunas de las obras que yo considero imprescindibles. Aunque todo esto es muy subjetivo, entran en juego muchos factores que determinan cuáles son tus favoritas. Incluso es probable que, aunque tengamos favoritos similares, nos gusten por razones diferentes.
Como he dicho en muchas ocasiones, las historias que se han quedado grabadas en mi mente (y en mi alma) son las que primero tocan mi sensibilidad. Las que me hacen sentir una emoción, ya sea de felicidad o de extrema tristeza. Otro factor es que son historias bastante terrenales, con reacciones muy humanas. No importa si la historia está ambientada en un mundo fantástico, lo más importante para mí es que el desarrollo de los personajes sea coherente y verosímil con el comportamiento. La conjunción de estos dos elementos es lo que hace que una película entre en mis favoritas. Cuando encuentro una historia en la que esta combinación es perfecta, es la que se queda conmigo.
Whenever I respond with my list of favourites, there is a film (trilogy) that cannot be missed. The Godfather saga (years ago I did a post about that film). I saw it when I was a kid and it is a work that impressed me, although there were things that I didn't fully understand at the time. Impossible to forget the whole story arc of Michel Corleone in rural Italy, where he meets Apollonia, with whom he falls in love and makes her his first wife. What fate had in store for Apollonia is perhaps my first contact with tragedy in the cinematic language. Is that why it's my favourite? It all makes more sense with what happens in the following films. For most people, The Godfather may be a story of sleek Italian-American mobsters. For me it's the tragic story of Michael, a man who, by allowing himself to be seduced by absolute power, ends up losing what really matters, his family. It's heartbreaking in Godfather III, where old Michael ends up losing the last thing he loved and we see that scene where they intercut his dance with his daughter and the flashback to Apollonia.
Godfellas couldn't be missing from my list of favourites. Another mobster movie, but this time devoid of all the elegance of The Godfather. I am a fervent fan of Martin Scorsese and I can say that I love his entire filmography and I have several of his films among my favourites. The pace and strength of the performances in this film is what struck me at the time, especially Joe Pesci who devours the scenes. (It's also the story of a man who ends up losing everything that mattered to him, only in this case it's all the material things that gave him power, ending up as an ordinary citizen. But the film Taxi Driver had more of an impact on me. Travis Bickle's character is one of those who captivated me when I saw it as a child. The mythical scene of tTavis Are you talking to me? and the look on his face when he goes to the candidate's rally fascinated me. But the most important thing was that nihilistic vision of the character, a product of being one of the social outcasts of a world in a city, contaminated by the worst of human beings. Something I would understand better with time, as I became an adult.
Siempre que respondo con mi lista de favoritas, hay una película (trilogía) que no puede faltar. La saga de El Padrino (hace años hice un post sobre esa película). La vi de pequeño y es una obra que me impresionó, aunque había cosas que en su momento no entendí del todo. Imposible olvidar todo el arco argumental de Michel Corleone en la Italia rural, donde conoce a Apollonia, de la que se enamora y la convierte en su primera esposa. Lo que el destino le tenía reservado a Apolonia es quizás mi primer contacto con la tragedia en el lenguaje cinematográfico. ¿Por eso es mi favorita? Todo cobra más sentido con lo que ocurre en las siguientes películas. Puede que para la mayoría de la gente El Padrino sea una historia de elegantes mafiosos italoamericanos. Para mí es la trágica historia de Michael, un hombre que, al dejarse seducir por el poder absoluto, acaba perdiendo lo que realmente importa, su familia. Es desgarrador en El Padrino III, donde el viejo Michael acaba perdiendo lo ultimo que amaba y vemos esa escena en la que intercalan su baile con su hija y el flashback a Apollonia.
Godfellas no podía faltar en mi lista de favoritas. Otra película de mafiosos, pero esta vez desprovista de toda la elegancia de El Padrino. Soy un ferviente admirador de Martin Scorsese y puedo decir que me encanta toda su filmografía y tengo varias de sus películas entre mis favoritas. El ritmo y la fuerza de las interpretaciones en esta película es lo que me impactó en su momento, sobre todo Joe Pesci que devora las escenas. (También es la historia de un hombre que acaba perdiendo todo lo que le importaba, sólo que en este caso son todas las cosas materiales que le daban poder, acabando como un ciudadano corriente. Pero la película Taxi Driver me impactó más. El personaje de Travis Bickle es uno de los que me cautivó cuando la vi de niño. La mítica escena de tTavis ¿Me estás hablando a mí? y su mirada cuando va al mitin del candidato me fascinaron. Pero lo más importante era esa visión nihilista del personaje, producto de ser uno de los marginados sociales de un mundo en una ciudad, contaminado por lo peor del ser humano. Algo que entendería mejor con el tiempo, al hacerme adulto.
Films that explore our darker side are very appealing to me and I have several of my favourites, the one that is very high on my list is David Cronenberg's film Crash. There are others by this filmmaker that I love, but this is the one that is very much engraved in my mind. It is difficult to define which of the scenes had the greatest impact on me. From the first one in which the actor James Spader is doing something in particular, there was the magic that hooked me. I can't really explain the pleasure I got from watching the whole film in a cinema, I even went to see it again the same week it was released. I think that with this film I discovered a certain fetishism I have for amputations and mechanical prostheses. In the same vein of disturbing films, there is a director whose filmography I love, Michael Heneke, and it was with his 97 film Funny Games that made me uncomfortable with several of its sequences and the story terrified me for a while.
Not everything on my list of favourites is disturbing or violent, I also have room for beautiful stories, for example Babette's Feast, which I am very fond of as the first non-Hollywood film I remember seeing in a cinema. I also love other films with beautiful stories, like Forrest Gump, which I never tire of watching. They are stories that have made me cry. I have a longer list, that's why it's so hard to say just one.
As love stories there are also some that are my favourites. Cinema Paradiso is for me the masterpiece in that aspect. I also did a post about it some time ago. It's not only a love story about the art of cinema, it's also a beautiful and painful love story that ends up being impossible. Complete happiness is never achieved, you always have to sacrifice something to get something else. Here is another story in which a man loses the most important thing (love). It seems to be a recurring theme that appeals to me and I'm noticing it as I write this. Otherwise I think the adaptation of the musical Les Miserables is also among my favourites. The musical I saw on youtube, which made me cry, the film doubled my feelings. A spectacular play that I watch again and again when I can.
Las películas que exploran nuestro lado más oscuro, me atraen mucho y tengo varias entre mis favoritas, la que está muy arriba en mi top es la película Crash de David Cronenberg. Hay otras de este cineasta que me encantan, pero esta es la que está muy grabada en mi mente. Es difícil definir cuál de las escenas me impactó más. Desde la primera en la que el actor James Spader está haciendo algo en particular, surgió la magia que me enganchó. No puedo explicar muy bien el placer que me produjo ver toda la película en un cine, incluso fui a verla de nuevo la misma semana de su estreno. Creo que con esta película descubrí cierto fetichismo que tengo con las amputaciones y las prótesis mecánicas. En la misma onda de películas perturbadoras, hay un director que me encanta su fimografía, Michael Heneke y fue con su película Funny Games del 97 que me incomodó con varias de sus secuencias y la historia me aterró por un tiempo.
No todo lo que hay en mi lista de favoritas es perturbador o violento, también tengo sitio para historias bonitas, por ejemplo, El festín de Babette, a la que tengo mucho cariño por ser la primera película que no es de Hollywood que recuerdo haber visto en un cine. También me encantan otras películas con historias hermosas, como Forrest Gump, que nunca me canso de ver. Son historias que me han hecho llorar. Tengo una lista más larga, por eso es tan difícil decir sólo una.
Como historias de amor también hay algunas que son mis favoritas. Cinema Paradiso es para mí la obra maestra en ese aspecto. También hice un post sobre ella hace algún tiempo. No es sólo una historia de amor hacia el arte cinematográfico, es también una bella y dolorosa historia de amor que acaba siendo imposible. La felicidad completa nunca se consigue, siempre hay que sacrificar algo para conseguir otra cosa. He aquí otra historia en la que un hombre pierde lo más importante (el amor). Parece que es un tema recurrente que me causa atracción y me estoy dando cuenta mientras escribo esto. Por lo demás creo que la adaptación del musical Los Miserables también está entre mis favoritas. El musical que vi en youtube, que me hacia llorar, la película duplicó mis sentimientos. Una obra espectacular que veo una y otra vez cuando puedo.
With this brief mention of my favourite films I hope I can give you an idea of the style of cinema I like. There are many more, because anyone who enjoys cinema is unlikely to have just one favourite film. There are so many and each time new ones are released that will surely become unforgettable films for you. You can't sum it all up in just one. Hay muchas más, porque quien disfruta del cine es difícil que tenga una sola película favorita. Hay muchísimas y cada vez estrenan otras que seguro se convertirán en películas inolvidables para ti. Estoy totalmente de acuerdo con usted, a veces es muy complicado decir únicamente un filme, ya que siempre por alguna u otra razón nos pueden gustar varias. También depende el género, podemos tener favoritas.
Si tendría que decir una, sería la primera de Harry Potter, Pero vuelvo y repito, tengo muchas más que me gustaron mucho.

Es verdad, no se tiene una película favorita sino muchas, demasiadas, depende de muchas cosas, la época en que las vimos, el género, los sentimientos que despierta, son demasiados factores.
Mi lista también es interminable, he visto esa trilogía y es excelente!

Me gusta mucho la ciencia ficción, entre ellas Matrix, por razones especiales, me gusta Drácula, de Bram Stoker. Me gustó Titanic .... hay demasiadas! Viste La Casa del Lago? Es vieja pero es muy bonita.
Me han dedicado la canción de Cinema Paradiso y me ha encantado, me lleno de emoción.
Después tengo mis películas favoritas por el actor... es decir, mi favorito jajaja

Saludos amigo, hoy en día le mundo del cine es muy amplio y responder esa pregunta es algo complicado, puesto que siempre saldrá una película que se convierta en favorita y sale otra y siempre será la misma historia y es aquí donde esta lista crecerá. En mi caso me gustan las películas animada y una de esas sería Coco, pero es algo vieja y sobre esa ya han sacado muchas. Excelente este publicación y esa película que mencionas no la he visto.

Instead of limiting myself to certain genres, I like to keep the spectrum wide, so I like movies that manage to keep the story mysterious and make the next plot twist unpredictable. Sometimes the story and the atmosphere created go far beyond the performances of the actors. I like any movie that can capture this momentum.
Cómo decir que no, si si, es difícil hacer una lista de películas favoritas, cuando se han visto tantas, y de distintos géneros, y si hemos coincidido en algunas, la verdad eso es lo bueno del cine, hay para todos los gustos, y se puede tener diferentes opiniones, películas que a muchos les gustan, y a otros no, algunas con buenas historias con las que te sienten identificados, y claro las que te hscen llorar.
A mí me gusta más las historias basada en hechos reales, las bélicas, de época, esas son muy bonitas, y valen la pena verla.
Bueno haré un viaje en el tiempo, para recordar mis favoritas, pero siempre me acuerdo de en Busca de la felicidad, Forrest Gump, un clásico,las de Marvel,son mis favoritas también, entre otras jeje.

Estoy de acuerdo con todo lo que dices @jcrodriguez en mi caso no podría decir porque me encanta ver películas, pero si me preguntas sobre género favorito tal vez si tendría una breve respuesta, o sobre un actor favorito, es posible, pero, película favorita, no podría dar esa respuesta, sería como ¿qué?, como te explico no se trata de la película favorita se trata del enfoque, incluso a veces un actor puede ser favorito en una película, pero no en otra, definitivamente no me preguntes, pero me encanta ver películas, con actores conocidos y desconocidos, realmente el desarrollo lo dice todo.🤗👍💯
It's true we can't be limited to just one film, calling it a favorite, just because it touched us in one way or another. There are lots of beautiful movies out there. All genre of films make a lot of sense but recently, I seem to be more invested in crime and thrillers and I have lots of favorites from that genre. Your picks seem lovely btw.
Es cierto lo que dices el universo de películas y series es bastante vasto Y de verdad elegir una que destaque es muy pero muy difícil pero en mi caso de películas tengo muchas por ejemplo está el caballero de la noche de Christopher nolan donde sale el guasón que es espectacular es una de las mejores películas que he visto sobre Batman además de series está How i met Your mothers, una serie que me gustó muchísimo y la vi completa.
