Cuando decido ver una película por lo general me fijo en par de cosas: el servicio de streaming de donde es y el cast. Esto lo hago porque me puede dar una pista de la calidad de la misma y no, no es juego porque se sabe que hay servicios de streaming que son de mucho mejor calidad que otros. The Instigators es un film de Apple TV+ y que tiene un lineup de actores bastante top que me dieron a entender de que acá podía haber algo. La cosa es que estamos ante una película que es una mezcla de comedia con acción extremadamente cliché para mi porque tiene detalles muy comunes pero que al mismo tiempo se deja ver precisamente por lo dicho anteriormente, el elenco para mi vale mucho la pena.

When I decide to watch a movie I usually look at a couple of things: the streaming service it is from and the cast. I do this because it can give me a clue as to the quality of the film and no, it's not gambling because some streaming services are known to be of much better quality than others. The Instigators is a film of Apple TV+ and has a lineup of pretty top actors that gave me to understand that there could be something here. The thing is that we are facing a film that is a mixture of comedy and action extremely cliché for me because it has very common details but at the same time it is worth watching precisely because of what I said above, the cast for me is very worthwhile.

Esta historia tiene como protagonistas a Rory (Matt Damon) y Cobby (Casey Affleck), el primero es un ex marine y padre de familia que está sumamente desesperado por el dinero ya que su vida familiar depende de eso; el segundo es un ex convicto que estuvo detrás de las rejas injustamente y ahora está buscando una especie redención. La cosa es que dicha desesperación de ambos los lleva a hacer equipo para realizar un robo a un personaje político de suma importancia para la ciudad y cómo las cosas no siempre salen bien pues dicho plan fracasa de manera estrepitosa. Esto conlleva a que este par ahora están siendo perseguidos no solo por la policía sino que también por toda la gente de este personaje corrupto y claro está por el capo que en un principio los contrató.

This story stars Rory (Matt Damon) and Cobby (Casey Affleck), the former is a former Marine and family man who is desperate for money because his family life depends on it; the latter is an ex-convict who was behind bars unjustly and is now looking for some sort of redemption. The thing is that the desperation of both leads them to team up to carry out a robbery of a political figure of great importance to the city and how things do not always go well as the plan fails miserably. This leads to this pair now being pursued not only by the police but also by all the people of this corrupt character and of course by the boss who originally hired them.

Pero las complicaciones no terminan ahí y es que en paralelo Rory está yendo a terapia por lo que en un giro de la trama les toca "secuestrar" a la terapeuta por lo que casi toda la huida se convierte es una especie de sesión entre los tres haciendo que la trama se llene de un poco de comedia gracias a las interacciones que se generan a raíz de esto. Al final los tres buscarán los mejor para cada uno porque tendrán que aprender a confiar entre ellos. Como dije es un film lleno de cosas cliché: el robo que sale mal, la personalidad y actuar de los dos protagonistas, uno siendo el ingenuo y medio torpe mientras que el otro es el más centrado y mañoso, las discusiones, etc. Nada que no se haya visto antes.

But the complications do not end there and in parallel Rory is going to therapy so in a plot twist they have to "kidnap" the therapist so that almost all the escape becomes a kind of session between the three making the plot is filled with a bit of comedy thanks to the interactions that are generated as a result of this. In the end the three will find the best for each other because they will have to learn to trust each other. As I said it's a film full of cliché things: the robbery that goes wrong, the personalities and actions of the two protagonists, one being the naive and half-witted one while the other is the more focused and crafty one, the arguments, etc. Nothing that hasn't been seen before.

Todo lo dicho antes nos lleva a ver una trama perfectamente lineal en la que estoy seguro que todo aquel que vea esta película sabrá cómo será su desarrollo y su final. Pocas sorpresas a nivel de cambios en la trama, no hay plot twist interesantes pero no te aburres. Es extraño esto pero es la verdad, aún sabiendo estas cosas la película logra mantener la atención de uno el espectador, porque sabes que va a pasar pero no el como y es ahí en donde este film logra que uno mantenga la atención. Como dije la comedia para mi es el género principal de esto, a Matt Damon se le da muy bien, el tipo es genuinamente gracioso incluso cuando no quiere serlo.

Everything said before leads us to see a perfectly linear plot in which I am sure that everyone who sees this movie will know how it will develop and end. Few surprises at the level of plot changes, no interesting plot twist but you don't get bored. It is strange this but it is the truth, even knowing these things the film manages to keep the attention of one the viewer, because you know what is going to happen but not how and that is where this film manages to keep your attention. As I said comedy for me is the main genre of this, Matt Damon is very good at it, the guy is genuinely funny even when he doesn't want to be.

Acción hay pero muy poca, creo que el film no se centra tanto en eso sino en la persecución, en el juego del gato y el ratón. Toda la película es una constante huida de estos dos personajes, escapar de tres objetivos parece fácil pero no lo es. Yo si tengo que decir que esperaba un poco más de esto considerando el nivel de actores que tiene, solo por nombrar a algunos: Jack Harlow, Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird), Michael Stuhlbarg (Your Honor) y los grandes Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina y Ron Perlman. El tema acá no es la forma en como actuaron porque cada quien hizo lo que le correspondía sino que la película en general se queda corta, con esa calidad actoral yo esperaría una gran película pero no fue así, lamentablemente.

There is action but very little, I think the film does not focus so much on that but in the chase, in the game of cat and mouse. The whole film is a constant flight of these two characters, escaping from three targets seems easy but it is not. I have to say that I expected a bit more from it considering the level of actors it has, just to name a few: Jack Harlow, Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird), Michael Stuhlbarg (Your Honor) and the great Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina and Ron Perlman. The issue here is not the way they acted because each one did their part but the movie in general falls short, with that quality of acting I would expect a great movie but it was not so, unfortunately.

En cuanto a Damon y Affleck nada que decir, mucha química entre ellos, son buenos actores, uno más que otro pero en líneas generales hicieron un muy buen trabajo. La pasas bien viéndolos debatir y discutir por pequeñeces, esas es otra de las cosas de este film, que lo que se supone que es rutina ellos lo magnifican de tal manera que toda la situación se vuelve graciosa y confusa. En fin, una película para pasar el rato, no es terrible pero si le faltó más consistencia, le doy un 6/10. Dura menos de dos horas. Les dejo el tráiler para que le echen un vistazo.

As for Damon and Affleck nothing to say, a lot of chemistry between them, they are good actors, one more than the other but overall they did a very good job. You have a good time watching them debate and argue over little things, that's another thing about this film, what is supposed to be routine they magnify it in such a way that the whole situation becomes funny and confusing. Anyway, a movie to pass the time, it's not terrible but it lacked more consistency, I give it a 6/10. It lasts less than two hours. I leave you the trailer so you can take a look at it.

Mira, no estaba segura de ver esta película, medio leí la sinopsis, pero no me convenció del todo, creo que si la voy a ver, si tiene algo de comedia, asi sea poco, sirve para entretener, saludos.

Para pasar el rato está perfecta. Como digo, no esperes la gran cosa porque no lo es. Eso si, el elenco es muy top, eso si creo que lo vas a disfrutar!

No la he visto, se ve interesante.. entiendo tu punto de que a pesar de ser bastante predecible, logra mantener la atención del espectador por la forma en la que se desarrollan los eventos.

Es esa trama que ya desde los primeros 10 minutos sabes como va a terminar, cero sorpresas! Cuando tengas un chance vela porque si, a pesar de lo básica que es, se disfruta bastante!
