(ESP-ENG) They Cloned Tyrone - A rare and unknown movie!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Sometimes we don't know what we want to see, sometimes we feel like a bit of action, a good suspense, a few laughs thanks to a comedy, a mind blowing science fiction or even a drama sometimes it doesn't hurt. But what happens when you get a movie that doesn't contain all these genres but most of them? - I would say the lottery. Obviously you don't know that until during and after you've seen it, so I have to say that this crazy, weird and unexpected film was one of the best surprises I've seen in the last few months precisely because of what I said before, it's an absurd mix of comedy, science fiction and mystery.
Basically it is a film that tells us a little about racial discrimination and social problems that plague the United States but under a cloak of mind control that comes from a series of products that are used in the day to day. In addition and thanks to the way of being and personalities of all the protagonists, comedy is also an important factor in the development of the story; there are many occurrences within that community that will surely get a couple of laughs. It's science fiction and suspense, it's everything and although it may seem a nonsense mixture, it actually makes all the sense in the world. But well, without further ado, let's talk a little about this Netflix movie that maybe you who are reading this have no idea it exists.
This story is centered in the 70's in a lower class neighborhood called Glen which is immensely hit by drug trafficking and the gangs that control it. Within that community there is a trio, quite unexpectedly, who come together in search of a solution and answers to a series of somewhat bizarre and chilling events that overnight began to happen in that town. Fontaine (John Boyega), Slick Charles (Jamie Foxx) and YO-YO (Teyonah Parris) a drug dealer, a pimp and a prostitute, respectively, will be in charge of doing the aforementioned.
What happens then? - They realize that what is happening is something much more powerful and sinister than they could have thought at first and everything points to it being a conspiracy carried out by the U.S. government itself in its eagerness to control people. I can't say more because I don't want to fall into spoilers. It is from here when it begins a chase for the truth in which we will see, in a detective plan, these three figures dodging a series of obstacles ranging from secret facilities, conflicts with gang members to the simple fact of eating fried chicken or straighten your hair, (watching the film you will understand this section).
This film has the particularity of touching on issues that are very recent and are in the current conversation but what stands out is the way in which it seeks to solve these problems. Segregation and racial segmentation is one of the things we see the most, there is a kind of racism that is not given by the color of the skin but rather by the social condition of these people and it is just from this that this conspiracy is born from which all the citizens of this small town are part of. Conspiracy that is employed under scientific experiments and very questionable methods which Fontaine and his combo manage to realize. I think the way they managed to unite things so alien to each other and make them work in this film is one of the best things about this film.
Science fiction, as you can imagine, is vital in the plot and it is no spoiler to say that at some point in the film you will meet clones, these are part of the experiment that is taking place under the streets of the Glen neighborhood. The really good thing about this film is that it has like two faces, one is the gloomy one that shows the hard life in the streets, a very gang and thugs environment with prostitutes in every corner and on the other the psychedelic face of these labs, lots of science, scientists, etc. Strangely the result is incredible, it is rare to see a pimp involved in conspiracy and mind control issues but here you see it and honestly it is very good.
I would say that this film has two parts. The first half is the investigative part, where the core of everything is sought, the root of all the events and the second is the confrontation with these forces. By this I mean that there is a little bit of everything, the film is not slow but it is not full of thugs shooting everyone left and right in chases; there is a fairness that makes it ideal to not get bored. Personally I enjoyed it from beginning to end, at the beginning there is a lot of intrigue and suspense that what generates the viewer is expectation to want to know what is really happening and then fall into the final adrenaline.
The characters are very top notch and the casting is surprisingly very good. Jamie Foxx is an actor of great quality, to see him in this almost cartoonish role is incredible. As I said, he is a pimp full of gold who pretends to be a tough guy but in reality he is the opposite, he is quite cautious and unpredictable, very top notch indeed. John Boyega is the dealer, a tough guy but because life and injustices has made him that way, he is the most affected by everything and therefore the most impulsive. And YO-YO is the most sane, down to earth of this trio and who with a little gray matter and persuasion will achieve what he sets out to do. You'll also see Kiefer Sutherland, another great actor who adds depth to the cast.
An excellent movie that I didn't expect to like the way it did, I think the surprise factor and the unexpected plot is what caught my attention the most. An 8/10 because it has everything to entertain plus the whole context and the forms make it very interesting. You laugh, you get puzzled; I didn't say it before but the cinematography is very cool, the colors, setting and photography is 10. It's on Netflix and lasts two hours. Highly recommended to everyone. Below is the trailer.

I read another review about this movie the other day. Sounds interesting. will have to watch them after I watched Kandahar.
I have Kandahar noted there too. This is very good, it really is the best I've seen in months, and I highly recommend it.
