(ESP-ENG) The Three Musketeers: Milady - Movie Review!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
In cinema there are certain combinations between actors and actresses that will always work and one of them is Vincent Cassel and Eva Green. Obviously I say this because it is not the first time they work together and that the chemistry between the two in front of the cameras is very evident making the productions, whether series or movies, end up being things of quality. "Milady" is the second installment of this saga of films, D'Artagnan was the first seeing the light last year so we are facing the continuation of that story full of betrayals, conspiracies and love, because yes, I would say that this feeling is one of the main engines within this plot.
As many of you may know The Three Musketeers is a work by Alexandre Dumas which tells the story of some men who are in the service of the King of France Louis XIII. This second part as I said continues with this story but from the perspective of Milady de Winter (Eva Green). To sum things up, France is living complicated times and everywhere you look there seems to be an air of war, a war that the King himself is not looking for but that some of his collaborators are insisting. Basically this would be a religious war between Catholics and Protestants in the United Kingdom where even cardinals of the Catholic Church are involved.
Being focused on Milady, who is also one of the main characters of the first installment, the whole plot focuses on her actions and the consequences of them. We will understand a little of the why of many things, we will know more about her past, her motivations and what awaits her in the future. All this at the same time that the preparations for the imminent war and all the conspiracies behind it are being developed. The truth is that the plot has several edges that in the end are all related to each other, such as the story of Athos (Vincent Cassel) with Milady, the story of D'Artagnan (Françoise Civil) with Constance and everything that has to do with the political/religious conflict between France and England.
Comparing the two titles I think it doesn't make much sense because I think they are different despite being within the same story. The first one is full of much more action and vertiginousness while this second one is much calmer because it develops or tries to unravel all the knots that are around the decisions and behaviors of its characters. I feel that they complement each other very well because not everything can be explosive and full of adrenaline, there has to be a pause period where things are shown to us from another point of view. To make you understand it better, this second movie is a little more detective, perhaps deeper and full of intrigue.
Although the story is a little quieter this does not make the film boring, on the contrary, at all times you are hooked because if you saw the first you will want to know what the next step is so I recommend you see the first installment, it does not make much sense to see this one without the context of the previous one. The scenes are very well done, the action scenes because they are very realistic, there is a confrontation between sea and land that they really managed to achieve in the best way. The fights with swords and daggers will always be attractive, they have their charm that if the actors play it well, the result will be top. Setting, costumes, another of the elements that give a touch of quality because yes, we are really transported to the time, the Europe of the 1600s. The latter may seem silly but it is vital to better immerse yourself in the story.
Eva Green is incredible, a multifaceted actress that for her character we will see her change faces several times and in all of them she manages to do it without problems. When she has to fight she delivers good sequences and when she has to cry and play the drama she also succeeds. If we add to this Vincent Cassel next to her, the combination is very good. He is an actor who also knows how to move in front of the camera both in action and drama. I think all the actors play a very cool role, I would have liked to see some of them a little more developed but considering that the film is based on Milady, it's fine.
I really liked the film because from the first film the story grabbed me. I don't want to judge this one based on the first film because they are different. They developed the story more, they closed many arcs, you understand things better but they left one quite open so you sense that there will be a third part. I give it a 7/10. Very good performances, good scenes and fight sequences and above all the exteriors and setting, all very consistent and well cared for. If you like this story of Dumas, ever read it, I recommend these movies, in my humble opinion they are up to par. I leave the trailer below.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to everyone, see you next time!
