Lately horror cinema is experiencing a kind of important push in the sense that we are seeing more and more films that revolve around this genre. Being the one I like the most is something that makes me happy because I really enjoy watching films that dare to break paradigms and remove the stigma that a horror movie is a guaranteed failure. Within this genre, the saga of “The Omen” is one of the most important in history, with an important number of films to its credit, most of them being relatively decent. Today we will talk about the beginning of this story, where the famous boy named Damian comes from and how the whole nefarious preamble of that event was.

The story is very similar to Sydney Sweeney's “Immaculate”, I say this because I saw it a couple of weeks ago and it was impossible not to see similarities but beware, they are not the same. This story is about Margaret (Nell Tiger Free), a young American girl who all her life has been living in orphanages until she is sent to Rome to receive her vows to become a nun. Once she arrives in Italy her joy and illusion is more than evident, at last she would be doing what for her is her destiny. Already in the convent she begins to meet everyone but always with something strange in the atmosphere, as if something does not quite fit and it is clear that not everything is what it seems, which she will soon discover.

As time goes by Margaret begins to experience strange situations, she sees and feels things that only she can perceive. But not everything is a coincidence and it becomes known that there is something dark within the walls of the church, a kind of conspiracy that obviously will question all the faith that this young woman may have. Knowing this, the story begins to develop, which revolves around everything said and certain plans that some of the ecclesiastical members may have, plans that could be considered contrary to everything that God preaches. The thing with these movies is that the plots are very well known, there is very little room for surprises, at least that is the common denominator, but, what happens with this one? - That indeed unexpected things do happen.

Como les decía la trama por muchos momentos puede parecer plana y sumamente lineal pero afortunadamente no siempre es así, hay una serie de plot twist muy interesantes que hacen que el film sea impredecible cosa que aplaudo porque algunos de ellos sinceramente no me los esperaba. Si, hay un terror importante pero de las cosas que también me sorprendieron fue lo increíblemente gráfica que es a la hora de mostrar las cosas. Pero no hablo tanto de la sangre, que si hay, sino de todo lo referente a lo paranormal, esa combinación de lo inexplicable con lo meramente físico es algo que se ve mucho y que para mi está muy bien logrado.

As I was saying, the plot can seem flat and extremely linear for many moments but fortunately it is not always like that, there are a series of very interesting plot twists that make the film unpredictable, which I applaud because some of them I honestly did not expect. Yes, there is some major horror but one of the things that also surprised me was how incredibly graphic it is when it comes to showing things. But I'm not talking so much about the blood, which there is, but everything related to the paranormal, that combination of the inexplicable with the merely physical is something that is seen a lot and that for me is very well done.

Another thing to highlight is everything related to photography and visuals. Being this a little bit my area, I must say that every frame, every shot and handling of the camera, lighting, absolutely everything is very well taken care of; cinematography in general is a resounding 10. Believe it or not this detail gives a lot of value to horror movies because logically they reach the viewer is by everything you see on screen rather than by a script or the construction of a certain character. I enjoyed it very much, it is rare that this happens in a film of these characteristics but friends, it happened. Besides everything being set in the 70's makes the vibe of the film is very different.

And finally, the plot touches on the usual, that questioning of the church that it hides things, that duality that there is a good and an evil under the habits of the nuns and the cassocks of the priests. While it is true that in most cases it is fiction, the fact that the doubt remains in the air is disturbing because in the end it will not be known how much of a fantasy all these stories are. In the world there is good and evil, that is undeniable and that in horror films the church is always the axis of this is a way to make the story more effective and more “realistic?! The plot doesn't bore, you may know where it's going but in a radical change everything changes.

A very good movie with decent performances, Nell Tiger Free delivers a very top performance where the moments of terror and anguish stand out by far. Nothing to say about it. I give it a 7.5/10. It's a good horror, it has all the basic and essential elements to make it a more than decent film. It lasts a little less than two hours. I leave the trailer here.
