(ESP-ENG) Lupin: part 3 - Everything is an illusion!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
There are very few things with which Netflix has been consistent while seeking to maintain quality in their productions, almost always either cancel the series or simply everything goes down the drain. Fortunately this is not the case with Lupin, this series that saw the light of day in 2021 and arrived as something novel as Omar Sy played, or well he still does, a highly refined thief with an abysmal ability to disguise himself and commit practically impossible assaults. In that year two parts of five episodes each were released, something that was very good because it left people wanting more but it was not until early this October when the third part was released, one that from now on I tell you is one of the best you will see.
Lupin is a series that if you ask me has it all, it has action, it has a touch of very subtle comedy, it is impressively entertaining and the most important thing is that everything you are seeing is most likely not true, it plays a lot with the surprise factor in the viewer, a detail that is the real attraction and hook of this story. You need to watch the first ten chapters? - For purposes of understanding what happens here not so much but in the end of the season there is a closure that deserves to know a little context so yes, I recommend you to take a look at it to better enjoy the whole plot at the end. But well, without further ado, let's talk a little about what this character brings us in this third installment which I promise a lot.
As is already known we have Assane Diop (Omar Sy), this sort of Robin Hood or vigilante who is always looking for his next target. The plot begins after everything that happened before, he has the habit of being in hiding so that his family is as little involved as possible. The thing is that tired of being in hiding, he decides to return to Paris to propose to his family an option to be together again: to escape. As expected, that doesn't work out very well for Assane, so he immediately puts in place a plan to end it all once and for all, the detail is that this plan doesn't work out well because someone from his past appears out of nowhere to disrupt everything.
With this person back in his life, although not in the best way, Diop has to try to solve all the problems that arise as the days go by. Everything is a bit against the clock because he is in a field where he is not usually used to be. Even so, we will see him doing what he does best, adopting new characters, sneaking wherever necessary, escaping from everyone, deceiving everyone but above all protecting his own. It is understood that what he does can put at risk the people closest to him, so in this part we will see a Diop a little more personal and focused on the people he cares about.
This is a series with which it is impossible to get bored or have a bad time, at least that was my experience. The level of expectation that is created with each chapter is gigantic because in each one it seems that a pandora's box is opened, which makes you want to see the next one more and more. As I said this is the goal of the series, it is one that by its nature of being related to riddles, illusions, escapes, etc; you really do not know what will happen next, everything in this plot is a constant surprise and when you find out what happened, your head is very likely to explode because they are things that one does not see coming. It's like everything is a constant plot twist.
Another interesting thing is that as in the first parts the story is told in two parts, there are two timelines, the current one and another one where Assane is a teenager. This is to give more context about who this man really is and to understand certain things that are happening in the present. This parallelism is extremely important in this third installment because as I already mentioned, we are in a part of the story where things become much more personal for Diop. Basically and as a clearer summary we can say that Assane's past finally caught up with him. Personally I liked this a lot because it changes a little with what we had been seeing, that this thief and master of deception is in a new and different situation made the plot more interesting.
In terms of scenes and big things, Lupin is not so much of that, I would say that it is a simple production but very well done. Here it is about people and the relationships between them, it is a series where what really counts are the characters and how they interact with each other, hence we do not see things that may be necessary in other series such as explosions, shootings or chases, although the latter does occur but in a very different way. Seeing how Assane plans everything, how he executes it and carries it out, seeing the resources he has that makes him 35 steps ahead of everyone and that in the end things turn out well I think another of the attractions of the series; how is it possible the power of anticipation of this guy? - That's the magic.
As for the characters, logically Omar Sy is the main character and main face of the story, he is a very good actor, I met him in the movie Intouchables, one of the best I've seen and since then I've known the quality he has. The thing here is that the co-stars also do their job well, the wife, the two detectives, the best friend, all contribute their grain of sand to make the series what it is. I would say that Lupin is not something in which one is very aware of the performances, the real added value is the whole framework that there is and the way it develops, this does not mean that it is bad just that the focus is elsewhere.
I give this third part a 9/10. I found it very, very good, from chapter one I was hooked to the point that I watched the series in two days. Besides the season finale is top and gives to think that a fourth part will come, in fact it is a very unexpected one, I think that is one of the reasons for the high score. It is very worthwhile, I recommend it to everyone, the French make very good productions and this is a great example of that. There are 7 episodes. I leave you the trailer below.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well friends that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
