War movies have always caught my attention, they are almost all the same in terms of plot but they are incredibly entertaining and stressful, a pretty ideal combination to keep you on the couch. Other things that caught my attention were its protagonists, we are talking about Russell Crowe, Liam Hemsworth and his brother Luke Hemsworth. Seeing these names more or less we know that at least we were going to have action and most likely we would have a good performance by Crowe. What to expect from this film? - Well, a lot of action, an important emotional charge, as is common in these stories and a level of expectation completely insane and inhuman to the point of being a little desperate.

This story centers on an undercover operation by a special forces group in the mountainous areas of the Philippines. This extraction team is in charge of rescuing an asset that is kidnapped by a hostile group which is of utmost importance to the United States. The thing is that during this operation everything starts to get complicated since there are only four elite men who are in charge of everything, soon they will realize that the chances of accomplishing the mission will be a very complicated task to achieve due to an ambush that has left them in a very bad position.

One of them, Kinney (Liam Hemsworth), is the most novice of them all as he comes from the air force so he is in charge of all the support they can receive in terms of drones and fighter planes. His right-hand man? - Reaper (Russell Crowe) who is thousands of miles away at an airbase in Las Vegas. When everything goes down the drain it is Kinney who begins a race for survival by seeking to coordinate air strikes at key points to eliminate all targets. The detail is that there are still assets to be rescued and apart from staying alive and escaping he must try not to leave anyone behind. Beyond all the action there is an important point of desperation because being hidden in an unknown jungle is not something easy to achieve.

I think one of the coolest things about the film is the way it was shot and I noticed two things that caught my attention. The first one is the use of slow motion or slow motion. When you use that in combat scenes the result can be epic. In this case we will see how for example the bullet cartridges come out of the rifles, the explosions, the moments when there are attacks by missiles or bazookas, it's really as if we were watching a video game. It's a very interesting visual experience. And the second thing is the use of the first-person camera or POV. When placed on the weapons we will see angles that are very attractive, those points of view in the middle of combat are excellent, they always look good and here there are a few of those.

The scenes of the confrontation on the ground are also very well done, there are exchanges of gunfire, snipers and melee fights that are very engaging and always keep the attention at a good level. Crowe being "the eyes in the sky" is in charge of raining missiles from the drone which also looks pretty good, the missiles in the air and at the moment of impact looks as realistic as it can be. In the visual effects aspect I have no complaints, it may not be the best of the genre but it is one that can be watched without problems. My issue is with the plot or the way the story was handled, it is one where the expectation was stretched to the limit, especially in the final part of the movie.

The intrigue of knowing what was going to happen was interrupted by actions in three different scenarios, this made the anxiety grow a lot to the point that honestly it was something desperate to see. I agree with this resource but when it is exploited like this, rather than hooking, what it does is to advance the film and that's it. The characters were good. Liam was up to the task, good action actor, definitely gets in the blood and Russell Crowe in a more bureaucratic role is also an interesting character, very dedicated to his work, unafraid of authority and very hot-blooded.

I give it a 7.5/10. That stress and anxiety at the end for me was a little unnecessary, hence at the end one ends up as tired. Otherwise everything is very good, scenes, cinematography, everything expected in this type of film. It lasts less than two hours. I leave you the trailer so you can take a look at it.
