El concepto de la familia y de que todo debe de hacerse en nombre de ella y por ella es uno de los más explotados en el cine, esto puede ser algo extremadamente cliché en algunas tramas o a pesar de eso seguir siendo una fórmula que funcione. En este creo que la segunda opción es la adecuada, esto no quiere decir que la trama no se haya visto antes pero de verdad la película es una logra mantener la atención del espectador en gran parte del tiempo. Evidentemente el amor familiar no fue lo que hizo que decidiera ver este film sino el elenco que tiene: Jenna Ortega, Tommy Lee Jones, Ben Foster, entre otros son los nombres que me llamaron la atención y de cierta manera me atrajeron un poco.

The concept of family and that everything must be done in the name of it and for it is one of the most exploited in cinema, this can be something extremely cliché in some plots or in spite of that remain a formula that works. In this one I think the second option is the right one, this is not to say that the plot hasn't been seen before but the film is really one that manages to keep the viewer's attention for a large part of the time. Evidently the family love was not what made me decide to see this film but the cast: Jenna Ortega, Tommy Lee Jones, Ben Foster, among others are the names that caught my attention and somehow attracted me a little.

Finestkind es un drama con ciertos tintes criminales que toca temas como la lealtad, el amor, la persecución de sueños, el estar ahí para el otro sin importar que y sobre todo el descubrimiento de lo que queremos ser en la vida. Esto se puede leer como algo muy cursi pero realmente no lo es sino que dentro de la trama "dura y violenta" que vemos estos valores están ahí y son los que guían el accionar de casi todos los personajes. Como dije antes estamos ante una película muy cool de ver, no será la mejor que vas a ver pero creo que por ver la actuación de Tommy Lee Jones vale la pena las dos horas de film. Así que sin más hablemos un poco de que va esta historia.

Finestkind is a drama with certain criminal overtones that touches on themes such as loyalty, love, the pursuit of dreams, being there for each other no matter what and above all the discovery of what we want to be in life. This can be read as something very corny but it really is not but within the "hard and violent" plot that we see these values are there and are the ones that guide the actions of almost all the characters. As I said before this is a very cool movie to watch, it won't be the best you'll see but I think it's worth the two hours of film just to see Tommy Lee Jones' performance. So without further ado, let's talk a little bit about what this story is about.

Esta trama se centra en un núcleo familiar conformado por Tom (Ben Foster) y su hermano Charlie (Toby Wallace). El primero es un pescador quien se inició en el oficio gracias a su padre, con su tripulación, quienes además son sus amigos, se dedican a esto desde hace bastante tiempo. Charlie, el menor y de diferente padre, es uno que aparentemente no sabe muy bien lo que quiere en su vida por lo que decide descubrirlo yéndose a pescar con su hermano mayor. A pesar de que están distanciados la relación es buena, con sus altibajos, pero buena al fin. Tom, con ciertas dudas, decide darle la oportunidad a su hermano y así es como empieza a forjarse aún más este vínculo.

This plot focuses on a family nucleus formed by Tom (Ben Foster) and his brother Charlie (Toby Wallace). The first is a fisherman who started in the trade thanks to his father, with his crew, who are also his friends, have been doing this for quite some time. Charlie, the youngest and from a different father, is one who apparently does not know very well what he wants in his life so he decides to find out by going fishing with his older brother. Although they are estranged, their relationship is good, with its ups and downs, but good nonetheless. Tom, with some doubts, decides to give his brother a chance and that is how this bond begins to forge even more.

Que pasa? - pues que más temprano que tarde comienzan a aparecer los problemas financieros a los que están sujetos los pescadores. Hay problemas con los barcos, la deudas empiezan a aparecer y de acá a caer en los malos pasos existe una raya muy pequeña y hasta imaginaria. Los tratos y negocios con gente de dudosa moralidad se cierran y esto hace que toda la vida de ellos se convierta en un pequeño gran caos. Con la ayuda de Ray (Tommy Lee Jones), el padre de Tom y de Mabel (Jenna Ortega) tratarán de solucionar un problema que se les ha salido de las manos y que pondrá a prueba la lealtad y el amor del que les hablé anteriormente.

Las tramas familiares lo que tienen es que en la mayoría de los casos tienden a ser excesivamente lineales, es decir, no hay cabida para un plot twist o algo que verdaderamente nos pueda sorprender. Este film es buen ejemplo de eso, de hecho llegas a pensar que es lo próximo que va a pasar y capaz no sucede al 100% pero sí puede que te quedes bastante cerca de acertar. Esto le quita interés? - en mi caso, no. Porque ojo, tampoco estamos ante un drama puro y duro, también hay un poco de intriga, de expectativa que al final lo que termina generando es que la atención la mantengamos. No hay acción ni nada por el estilo pero si hay una tensión en ciertas escenas que hace bien el trabajo.

The thing about family plots is that in most cases they tend to be excessively linear, that is to say, there is no room for a plot twist or something that can really surprise us. This film is a good example of that, in fact you get to think what's going to happen next and maybe it doesn't happen 100%, but you can get pretty close to getting it right. Does this detract from its interest? - In my case, no. Because we are not in front of a pure and hard drama, there is also a bit of intrigue, of expectation that in the end what ends up generating is that we keep our attention. There is no action or anything like that but there is a tension in certain scenes that does the job well.

Al no haber acción ni escenas importantes que podamos comentar todo el peso de la película se centra en las actuaciones y de cómo estas son capaces de mantener a flote la historia. Una historia que como ya se dijo nos habla o muestra de tópicos muy marcados: que tanto podemos confiar en el otro? - estamos realmente dispuestos a seguir nuestros sueños en vez del de los demás? - que tanto estamos dispuestos a hacer por nuestra sangre? - el sacrificio sin importar que también es válido? - pues todas esa preguntas serán respondidas solas a lo largo de la película y son las que dan una especie de profundidad a la trama.

Since there is no action or important scenes that we can comment on, all the weight of the film is focused on the performances and how they are able to keep the story afloat. A story that, as already mentioned, speaks to us or shows us very marked topics: how much can we trust each other? - Are we really willing to follow our dreams instead of those of others? - How much are we willing to do for our blood? - sacrifice no matter what is also valid? - Well, all these questions will be answered by themselves throughout the film and they are the ones that give a kind of depth to the plot.

Los personajes. Creo que lo mejor de la película es Tommy Lee Jones, sin ninguna duda. Un actor de 77 años y que todavía decida aparecer en estos films es algo que deberíamos de agradecer porque estamos ante uno de los grandes. Una actuación sobria, sincera, sin mucho adorno fue más que suficiente para él. Jenna Ortega también aporta lo suyo, una chica volátil pero con sueños y que lo que quiere es salir del mundo en el que está sumergida, un papel decente y sin más. Aunque los protagonistas son los hermanos no los destaco a ninguno porque precisamente para mi no destacan tanto a nivel actoral. Es una película simple con actuaciones simples, no hay que darle más vueltas al asunto.

The characters. I think the best of the film is Tommy Lee Jones, without any doubt. An actor who is 77 years old and still chooses to appear in these films is something we should be grateful for because we are dealing with one of the greats. A sober, sincere performance without much embellishment was more than enough for him. Jenna Ortega also brings her own, a volatile girl with dreams and what she wants is to get out of the world in which she is immersed, a decent role and without more. Although the main characters are the brothers, I don't highlight any of them because for me they don't stand out so much at the acting level. It is a simple film with simple performances, there is no need to give it more thought.

Le doy un 6.5/10. No me aburrí, no es mala pero definitivamente es una más del montón que no destaca en nada. Es perfecta para verla en esos momentos de ocio pero hasta ahí. La recomiendo? - solo por Tommy Lee y Jenna, si, véanla. Dura aproximadamente dos horas. Les dejo el tráiler por acá abajo.

I give it a 6.5/10. I wasn't bored, it's not bad but it's definitely one more of the bunch that doesn't stand out in anything. It's perfect to watch it in those moments of leisure but that's as far as it goes. I recommend it? - Just for Tommy Lee and Jenna, yes, see it. It's about two hours long. Sabes que esta película me tiene tentado a verla desde que salio, pero me preocupaba un poco su premisa, precisamente por lo que describes que suelen ser un poco lineales sin espacio para giros de trama, pero me convenciste con la descripción de la actuación de Tommy Lee Jones, la verdad que se debe apreciar el trabajo de un hombre que a dado tanto al cine. La idea de una familia en apuros, que se esfuerza por mantener valores suena interesante.

Es que cuando se habla de la familia es más o menos lo mismo de siempre, algún problema financiero o con la ley y a partir de ahí se unen todos y salen adelante.. así son todas. Pero si, Tommy Lee Jones es top aunque tampoco es la gran cosa, es lo mejorcito. Para pasar el rato está bien.

Así sucede acá. La película no es la gran cosa solo que las actualizaciones de algunos marcan el camino. Si te gusta el actor, está recomendada entonces.

El elenco fue lo que me atrapó y a pesar de no ser una película top se deja ver. Yo si la ví esperando un pelo más pero bueh, tampoco me arrepiento.
