Hace un poco más de 7 años se estrenó una serie que lo cambiaría todo, que pondría a todo el mundo a hablar de ella y sobretodo a "romperse la cabeza" por entenderla y seguirle los pasos, me refiero a "Dark". Hablo de esta serie porque la película de la que hablaremos hoy tiene muchos tintes y pinceladas que la asemejan a la producción alemana en cuestión, diría que son como primas ya que el trasfondo y la temática es muy parecida. Uno de sus productores es M. Night Shyamalan, un grande del cine de suspenso y de lo sobrenatural, por lo que la calidad está asegurada. No se si al final los que me leen llegaron a ver a Dark, en caso de que si, ya saben por dónde van las cosas; los que no, pues preparen la mente para unos viajes interesantes.

A little more than 7 years ago a series was released that would change everything, that would make everyone talk about it and above all to “break their heads” to understand it and follow in its footsteps, I am referring to "Dark ”. I talk about this series because the film we will talk about today has many dyes and touches that resemble the German production in question, I would say that they are like cousins since the background and the theme is very similar. One of its producers is M. Night Shyamalan, a great of suspense and supernatural cinema, so the quality is assured. I don't know if in the end those who read me got to see Dark, in case you did, you know where things are going; those who didn't, prepare your minds for some interesting trips.

This film has two paths, it tells two parallel stories united by the same misfortune. Set in a swampy area on the Caddo River, it tells the story of the disappearance of an 8-year-old girl, Anna, who was very dear to the community. This raises things that had been left in the past, disappearances and deaths that no one wants to talk about. The second story tells us about Paris, a man who is extremely affected by the death of his mother which he had to witness, he thinks that there is something strange in that area that made that happen so he will not rest until he discovers and clarifies the true reasons for the loss of his mother.

That area of Caddo is not normal, something happens that many do not understand or simply do not know. That's when Ellie, Anna's sister, and Paris himself, desperate for answers, embark, literally, on a quest that can end very badly and with the kind of answers they weren't expecting. This film definitely has Shyamalan's signature all over the place, we are in front of a psychological thriller that takes us to the maximum, one that will make us look for answers during every minute of the film and I really tell you, it is super disturbing to try to understand something that you are not sure about.

The plot is made so that your attention is 200% focused on what is happening. It is not difficult to understand, once you understand what really happens, but the process of discovering things and gradually opening your eyes is incredible because it is simply crazy. I would not classify it as horror but as a great suspense, throughout the film we are sold the idea that there is something strange in the lake and play a lot with that, that uncertainty and mystery exploited to the fullest resulting in something very cool to see. There is also a drama that goes hand in hand with the disappearances, obviously this causes those affected to collapse and we see many fights, friction and sentimentality.

When you discover the pattern that connects everything I assure you that your mind will explode a little, it is to reach enlightenment and see everything clear. When I said that this could have similarities with Dark, I'm not wrong. And even in the setting they tried to make it gloomy. Everything that surrounds those swamps gives the impression that hides dark things, that plays with our heads and makes us very suggestive of what might happen next. It is a film that is very well made, there are no great scenes or effects but at the level of script and story is spectacular; the plot twists are excellent, many things that are not expected.

As for the characters, well, everyone has their own demons and these situations have only increased them. Family problems, couple problems, coexistence, all massified by this lake and its mystery. Good performances, I liked Lauren Ambrose (Yellojackets), Anna's mother, a very suffering woman who has been through a lot and Paris (Dylan O'Brien), a really desperate guy and sometimes resigned by the death of his mother, the burden of guilt that he carries inside is very noticeable.

A great film that I recommend to everyone. A thriller of a little more than an hour and a half that will leave you alone until you solve the mystery of Caddo Lake. 8/10, very good movie. It's in Max. I leave the trailer here.
