(ESP-ENG) Argylle: Secret Agent - Movie Review!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Many times, or almost always, when I decide whether to see a movie or not, that decision sometimes goes through the cast that makes up such film, in this case we are talking about a group of actors and actresses that give to assume that the film will at least have a name and that in terms of its development, plot, etc., it will not be a total waste of time. Argylle I begin to see it under that perspective, that one that seeing the first minutes makes me quite clear where the thing is going to go: a super silly film but that is full of an absurd comedy and a story and action that makes it impossible for you to get bored, because it is that, the typical Sunday movie.
Let's talk about what it's about. We have Argylle (Henry Cavill) who is a James Bond level super-powered spy with the fighting level of a Jason Statham character. He finds himself on a mission around the world doing the only thing he knows, catching bad guys, or in this case the bad guy who would be LaGrange (Dua Lipa). It turns out that this Argylle is a character created by a very famous spy writer, Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), a super closed and introverted woman who loves cats. She has already written several books and all of them have been a success in sales until something very curious happens with her fifth book.
Everything will start to get complicated when the plot of this fifth book suddenly begins to surpass fiction, that is, what the fans are reading becomes a reflection of real life itself. And it is thanks to this that a powerful and mysterious network of spies is discovered and with it all the secrets they can hide. It is right here when a simple story of a book becomes something much more serious and Argylle will have to get down to work to solve these situations and finally expose this group of people who operate clandestinely. A somewhat convoluted and complicated plot to understand and that is precisely the magic of this film.
Let's talk about that, about the plot. I haven't seen so many plot twists in the same film for a long time, but there really is one every 20 minutes that disarticulates everything you had in mind and set up of the story. This is incredible for me because you feel like you start watching a new movie every time this happens; the reality is that not everything is what it seems. Logically this makes watching this movie anything but boring, believe me you will not fall asleep or get tired watching this and as I said, it has a mix between a silly comedy with a very pompous action and very worthy of Matthew Vaughn (Kickass, Kingsman). That this gentleman is its director is no small thing because that's his style, in fact this film is him at his best.
There are some action scenes that are very good but there are others that make you wonder: what is this I just saw? - But not because they are bad, but because they have a comedy/majestic charge that makes some people think they are a bit ridiculous. If you are very cynical that will happen to you, the point here is that you have to get rid of that facet and understand the film and its director. Many times he goes too far, yes; I think there were some things that I really feel went a few streets too far, but I think it doesn't detract from the quality of the film within his style. Come on, you don't have to be so square-minded when watching the film.
The bad thing? - The CGI. It really has to be said that it's awful how certain scenes look, some are distorted, others simply look too fake and artificial that make you lose the seriousness at the time of the film. Especially at the beginning, there is a scene where Cavill goes downhill with a small car that really is a disaster. There are others that are saved, another example of this is one of the final scenes where they play with some colored gases, if you saw it or when you see it you will be a little misplaced but I think it is one of the best of the film. I did feel that some parts were copies of other films, it happened to me a couple of times, it's not something negative but curious. Overall the effects are pretty poor but I think it makes up for it with the crazy plot and the endless plot twists.
As I mentioned, the cast is very top notch. In addition to those named we have Bryan Cranston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Cena, Sam Rockwell, etc; the truth is that this aspect is very enjoyable because each and every one of them has a starring role that obviously gives much more depth to the film. Bryce Dallas was decent, I didn't imagine her in that role but I think she was cool, Cranston also did very top, an average but acceptable villain. In the end and despite the style I have nothing bad to say about the main characters.
7/10. It could have been much better if the CGI had been up to par and if they had not exaggerated with some things that happen throughout the film, there are very questionable details that make everything does not seem to have been as careful as it should. Ah, very long. almost two and a half hours is an exaggeration. Here's the trailer for you to take a look at.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to everyone, see you next time!
Con ese elenco espero que sea entretenida. Lo mínimo que pido.
Entretenida es, con sus cosas ahí bastante extrañas pero aburrirte no, los cambios en la trama no te van a dejar.
