(ESP-ENG) Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom - Review.
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Superhero movies are in intensive therapy, not just me, but the box office, what the movies gross and all the opinions and reactions of people after having seen any film of this genre, whether Marvel or DC. I think in recent years there has been an over exposure of these films that reached a point where the quality was impossible to maintain as they seek to release 4-5 films a year and that is not viable. Personally I am a big fan of the genre but it is true that the last titles have been very unfortunate; as we are in DC I could give as an example The Flash with terrible CGI and Wonder Woman 1984.
But it is also true that the new DCU is under the command of James Gunn which at least for me generates a little hope given how good a director and creative he is. I've always liked more, but since I was a kid, DC characters, their stories call my attention much more, hence the notorious preference I have towards this universe. But lately their movies have been a failure so the expectations I had with this one were not high at all. The surprising thing is that even without being the best you are going to see at least this server was moderately satisfied with what I saw. So without further ado let's go ahead and talk about Jason Momoa again.
Evidently this second part is the sequel to that 2018 movie. Here we see Aquaman as the king of Atlantis, now with many more responsibilities as he must watch over and protect this entire kingdom. But we will also see him in his role out of the sea as a husband and father, something he is really comfortable and happy with. To say that he is married to Mera (Amber Heard) who in this film suffered from a kind of banning by taking away her screen time because of the whole issue with Johnny Depp, she is still the protagonist and has a presence but not as much as originally planned. Beyond all this issue, personally I like her a lot, as Mera I think she does very well.
But back to the plot then we have Atlantis which for the time being is at peace until a new threat decides to appear. David Kane or Black Manta (Yahya Abdul Mateen II) believes that it is time to take revenge for the death of his father in the first film so he is determined to steal a certain energy source to destroy Atlantis and the entire planet. So before this danger Aquaman decides to seek help from someone who until recently was his enemy, and yes, we are talking about his brother Orm (Patrick Wilson). From here begins a journey that aims to locate and neutralize Kane's plans and prevent the massive destruction of the planet.
The film is directed by James Wan, a director who has been known for horror films, a Fast and Furious one out there and for being the head of the pair of Aquaman films. I say this because despite not being in his wheelhouse he is a versatile director who has been able to carry this story. The plot is simple to no end, beginning, development and end, there is no plot twist, there is nothing to surprise you or unexpected, it is very superficial, everything is linear and predictable, it is a film made for mere entertainment. This does not mean it is bad, personally and as I said it is better than other titles even from Marvel itself that has been characterized by bringing better movies than DC.
Another thing to mention is the use of CGI. The last precedent we have was the Flash, which was disastrous, regrettable and difficult to watch. In this film we have to say that it was better achieved taking into account how complicated it was by the simple fact of being underwater, making details such as the movement of the hair underwater look natural I feel that as simple as it is, it is super complicated to achieve. From then on all the action scenes of fights, chases, visualizations of marine environments and environments, movements, etc., I think they were decent or at least better than I frankly expected.
The fight scenes I think I'll take the one at the end, it's the one I saw the most fluid. It is difficult to make something look good simulating being underwater so many of the things we see in my opinion lacked a bit of quality but it is not something to be alarmed about. Let's see, I don't want it to sound like this film is a success because it clearly isn't, it's not up to par with the great films of the genre but considering the context in which they are nowadays I don't consider it a resounding failure. As for the characters. Jason Momoa has something and that's that almost all of his characters have the same personality: comedic pulling on the mocking clown, lots of charisma, goofy comedy. You can either hate him outright or love him. Aquaman is exactly that, that's all there is to it.
The villain seemed like anything to me, he has a valid engine to act but he lacked power and intensity, I didn't connect with that revenge he was looking for. Otherwise, both the brother and Mera and Nicole Kidman herself were decent, average. A good cast really. I give it a 6/10. It didn't meet my expectations but I wasn't disappointed either. It could have been a lot worse and for me that's a win. It lasts a little over two hours. I leave the trailer below.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to everyone, see you next time!
I like Aquaman but I lost interest on this one because it features the same villain.
It's not quite the same but yes, almost. The villain is definitely one of the weak points of this movie.

la tengo en la PC, pero me da una flojera verla. Estoy tan desanimado con estas producciones de super heores. 😆
The best thing that could have happened to superhero cinema is that The Flash has buried the whole genre, so many films, in the end people were going to get tired of them and even more so if you had to see all of them to understand everything.
