The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes | Smile, it's why we have teeth

When I saw this movie I felt like I was back in my adolescence when I was reading a book a day and I was getting into the world of teenage dystopias, which was when I read The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, Divergent, and I won't mention the rest of the sagas and trilogies I read because it gives me tachycardia to remember all those books I read, but I will mention Percy Jackson, which has just been released in the series and I have to watch it. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was a complete trip to the past and I couldn't believe they had made it real, although I really don't know if I read the book they were inspired by, most probably I did read it, but I don't remember it, when it came out I had already left the juvenile sagas behind.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes takes place in the Tenth Hunger Games, sixty-four years before the first movie of The Hunger Games trilogy that we know. We have as protagonists Coriolanus Snow and Lucy Gray Baird, Lucy being the female tribute of District 12, and Snow becoming her mentor, where both will develop an unusual relationship where the life of one depends on the other, and if it were in a different situation, it is possible that nothing would have been the same. In this Tenth Hunger Games we will see a story that reveals the raison d'être of the games and how they became the television spectacle that all of Panem ended up watching over time.

Al ver esta película sentí que estaba de nuevo en mi adolescencia cuando me leía un libro por día y estaba adentrándome en el mundo de las distopías adolescentes, que fue cuando me leí The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, Divergent, y no menciono el resto de sagas y trilogías que leí porque me da como taquicardia recordar todos esos libros que leí, pero sí mencionaré a Percy Jackson, que le acaban de estrenar la serie y tengo que verla. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes fue un completo viaje al pasado y me la pasaba sin creer que la hubieran hecho realidad, aunque de verdad no sé si leí el libro en el que se inspiraron, lo más probable es que sí lo haya leído, pero no lo recuerdo, cuando salió ya había dejado atrás las sagas juveniles.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes tiene lugar en los Décimos Juegos del Hambre, sesenta y cuatro años antes de la primera película de la trilogía de Los Juegos del Hambre que conocemos. Tenemos como protagonistas a Coriolanus Snow y Lucy Gray Baird, Lucy siendo la tributo femenina del Distrito 12, y Snow convirtiéndose en el mentor de ella, donde ambos desarrollaran una relación inusual donde la vida de uno depende del otro, y si fuera en una situación diferente, es posible que nada hubiera sido igual. En estos Décimos Juegos del Hambre veremos una historia que nos revela la razón de ser de los juegos y cómo se convirtieron en el expectáculo televisivo que todo Panem terminó viendo con el paso del tiempo.

I went to see this movie with very little, almost no information, I think I had not even seen the trailer, then, I have many mixed feelings with everything that happened. I love the movie, there's no doubt about that, but I'm not completely convinced by the way everything unfolded, maybe in my mind, having only seen the teaser, and having seen what I saw, I was expecting a different development of the events, but no, they were different and that threw me off too much, and I still can't get my head around the idea that things went like that, and I can't tell you specifically anything about how I thought everything was going to go and how it ended up going, because then I would be telling you the whole movie, and no, spoilers are made here, but the whole movie is not told as if it were a summary.

Seeing a young Snow struggling to live and doing his best to maintain a social status he could no longer pretend was very weird, but I liked it, at least we already know that he got to the presidency fighting with everything he had, doing even the impossible, selling his soul to the devil and The Hunger Games in order to be the man with more power in all Panem, and he achieved it, a total admiration, to a bad person, but we should not take away the merits he achieved for everything he did. To ignore the fact that luck had nothing to do with it and that everything happened in a certain way because he wanted it to happen, interfering in the events, is very bad, than to give credit where credit is due, and Snow deserves it.

Yo entré a ver esta película con muy poca, casi nada de información, creo que ni siquiera había visto el trailer, entonces, tengo muchos sentimientos encontrados con todo lo sucedido. Amo la película, ya de eso no hay duda, pero no me termina de convercer a forma en que se darrolló todo, puede ser que en mi vente, al haber visto solo el teaser, y habiendo visto lo que vi, esperaba un desarrollo diferente de los eventos, pero no, fueron de otra forma y eso me descolocó demasiado, y aún no me hago a la idea de que las cosas hayan sido así, y no les puedo decir específicamente nada de cómo creía que iba a ser todo y cómo terminó siendo, porque entonces les estaría contando toda la película, y no, aquí se hace spoiler, pero no se cuenta toda la película como si fuera un resumen.

Ver a un joven Snow luchando por vivir y haciendo lo posible por mantener un status social que ya no podía pretender fue muy raro, pero me gustó, al menos ya sabemos que llegó a la presidencia luchando con todo lo que tenía, haciendo hasta lo imposible, vendiendo su alma al diablo y a Los Juegos del Hambre para poder ser el hombre con más poder en todo Panem, y lo logró, una total admiración, a una mala persona, pero no hay que quitarle los méritos que logró por todo lo que hizo. Ignorar el hecho de que la suerte no tuvo nada que ver y que todo sucedió de cierta forma porque él así quiso que pasara, interfiriendo en los eventos, es muy malo, que darle el mérito a quien se lo merece, y Snow lo merece.

Viola Davis was my favorite character, her role as Dr. Volumnia Gaul, the Gamemaker was amazing and impressive, a lot of weight, plus she is a black woman in a position of power, that already makes her amazing, but her characterization made it all even better, sometimes I was scared of the wretch when she screamed or talked loud, but that's part of my traumas, not the movie in general. Her face was indeed scary and intimidating, I spent the whole movie wondering if it was Viola or not, until the credits confirmed it and I could be happy, well, my mind, which was haunted by that.

Rachel Zegler also did too amazing, I loved her completely, for her Panem and The Hunger Games were her stage and she was the main artist of the story who would start singing when she felt like it because she didn't know if by the end of the show she was going to be alive or not. I loved it madly, I loved it, besides, if you already liked the version of The Hanging Tree that Jennifer Lawrence did, which I love that version, go listen to the version that Rachel Zegler did, damn, what an incredible thing, besides the song that was used in the most perfect moments they found, I didn't like that they cut it in two parts, but I understand the fact that they did it that way.

Viola Davis fue mi personaje favorito, su papel como Dr. Volumnia Gaul, la Gamemaker fue increíble e impresionante, de mucho peso, además de que es una mujer negra en posición de poder, ya eso la hace increíble, pero su caracterización lo hizo todo aún mejor, a veces me asustaba la desgraciada cuando gritaba o hablaba fuerte, pero eso ya es parte de mis traumas, no de la película en general. Su cara sí que daba miedo e intimidaba, yo me la pasé toda la película preguntándome si era Viola o no, hasta que los créditos lo confirmaron y pude ser feliz, bueno, mi mente, que la obsesionaba eso.

Rachel Zegler también lo hizo demasiado increíble, la amé por completo, para ella Panem y Los Juegos del Hambre eran su escenario y ella era la artista principal de la historia que se ponía a cantar cuando le daba la gana pues no sabía si para el final de la obra iba a seguir con vida o no. Yo la amé con locura, me encantó, además, si ya les gustaba la versión de The Hanging Tree que hizo Jennifer Lawrence, que amo esa versión, vayan a escuchar la versión que hizo Rachel Zegler, joder, que cosa tan increíble, además de la canción que fue usada en los momentos más perfectos que encontraron, no me gustó que la cortaran en dos partes, pero entiendo el hecho de que lo hayan hecho así.

The Tenth Hunger Games and the reality of the Capitol was very different in its beginnings to the one we got to know in The Hunger Games, so, it's a bad idea to expect the same or similar aesthetics to the one we already knew, but that doesn't mean that the movie lacks good photography, because it doesn't, it has many beautiful and aesthetically beautiful shots, which were many of the ones I shared here in the images.

I still don't understand the trailer, but I'll leave it here anyway, because you're going to imagine that something is happening, when in reality something else is happening, so it doesn't matter if you see it or not. My favorite moment of the movie? The end of The Games, fuck, I don't remember if I cried, but that was a drama, an intensity, a musical, fuck, it had everything, and that ending of the games is my favorite moment of the movie, I can't describe it because it would be a spoiler, and I don't want to make spoilers right now.

Los Décimos Juegos del Hambre y la realidad del Capitolio era muy diferente en sus inicios a la que llegamos a conocer en Los Juegos del Hambre, entonces, es una mala idea esperar una estética igual o parecida a la que ya conocíamos, pero eso no quiere decir que la película carezca de buena fotografía, porque no es así, tiene muchos planos preciosos y hermosos estéticamente, que fueron muchos de los que compartí aquí en las imágenes.

Sigo sin entender el trailer, pero igual se los dejo aquí, pues se van a imaginar que está pasando algo, cuando en realidad está pasando otra cosa, así que, ñe, no importa si lo ven o no. ¿Mi momento favorito de la película? El final de Los Juegos, joder, no recuerdo si lloré, pero eso fue un drama, una intensidad, un músical, joder, tuvo de todo, y ese final de los juegos es mi momento favorito de la película, no se los puedo describir porque sería spoiler, y no quiero hacer spoilers ahorita.
