Elfen Lied | Aren't we all monsters on the inside?

I remember that the first time I watched Elfen Lied was with Natalia (@soy-laloreto ) in 2019 during the few hours of light that we sometimes had after the national blackout for more than a week, and from the first moment I heard and saw the opening my brain melted and I could not stop watching it, so much so that I watched it with her, and a few days later when I went back home I went back to watch it, because I simply could not not not enjoy its existence. Little has changed my opinion about anime, which does not surprise me, but at the same time, it is rare to see something again after so long and not think differently, although in this case there is not much to think about, so it does not matter much.

Elfen Lied is about several things, but the main one is that humans are shitty and will do anything to continue being the ones who dominate the earth, so as to avoid being treated the way they treat the other species on the planet; well, no, but yes. In the first chapter we meet Lucy, a teenager who is escaping from a building where she is locked up, and for a very good reason, because Lucy has, let's say at the moment, powers that allow her to manipulate within a certain range of distance, so she has killed many people, she escapes, she is shot, and the next day in the plya she is found by Kohta and her first, Yuka, but now Lucy is not Lucy, she is someone else, because she has some identity problems and forgets who she is in order to face reality.

Recuerdo que la primera vez que mi Elfen Lied fue con Natalia (@soy-laloreto ) en el 2019 durante las pocas horas de luz que a veces teníamos después que hubo el apagón nacional por más de una semana, y desde el primer momento en el que escuché y vi el opening mi cerebro se derritió y no pude dejar de verla, tanto así que la vi con ella, y a los días cuando me regresé a mi casa volví a verla, porque simplemente no podía no disfrutar de su existencia. Poco a cambiado mi opinión respecto al anime, cosa que no me sorprende, pero a la vez sí, es raro volver a ver algo después de tanto tiempo y no pensar diferente, auque en este caso no hay mucho sobre lo que pensar, así que no importa mucho.

Elfen Lied trata sobre varias cosas, pero la principal es que los humanos son una mierda y harán lo que sea por seguir siendo los que dominen la tierra, para así evitar ser tratados como tratan a las demás especies del planeta; bueno, no, pero sí. En el primer capítulo conoceremos a Lucy, una adolescente que está escapando de un edificio donde la tienen encerrado, y por una muy buena razón, pues Lucy tiene, digámosle en este momento, poderes que le permiten manipular dentro de cierto rango de distancia, entonces ha asesinado a mucha gente, se escapa, le disparan, y al día siguiente en la plya la encuentran Kohta y su primera, Yuka, pero ahora Lucy no es Lucy, si no que es alguien más, pues tiene ciertos problemas de identidad y olvida quien es para poder enfrentar la realidad.

Before I say something bad about it, the fan service and sexualization here is a lot, I had forgotten it was like that, but during the first half of the anime there were more and more illogical situations where they put the female characters in compromising situations that were taken from you know where, plus, the saying 'a la prima se le arrima' applies here, expressly that Yuka is in love with Kohta and well, the rest is history, Kohta ends up with a sort of harem and Yuka happy because at least she has him too. That whole part is very weird and very questionable, but let's stop paying attention to that and move on.

Elfen Lied has everything, blood, dismemberments, murders, shootings, decapitations, tenderness, love, traumatic childhood memories, jealousy, crushes, Lucy acting like a cat, that's why they start calling her as Nyaa, which makes me laugh too much; there are also abusive parents, oh, I remembered a mother who insulted her daughter because she told her that the man she brought home was sexually abusing her, and she, the mother, said that it was the daughter who had problems and had no reason to complain, I wish she had been killed, fuck, what a wretch. Incest there is also, torture, isolation, rape, manipulation, loss, sisterhood, perversion, although I already said that, powers or abilities, and the desire to exist without the need to be given permission to do so.

Antes de decir algo malo al respecto, el fan service y la sexualización aquí es mucha, había olvidado que era así, pero durante la primera mitad del anime había cada vez más situaciones ilógicas donde pasaban a los personajes femeninos en situaciones comprometedora que se sacaban de ya saben dónde, además, de que aquí aplica el dicho de que 'a la prima se le arrima', expresamente de que Yuka está enamorada de Kohta y bueno, el resto es historia, Kohta termina con una especia de harem y Yuka feliz porque al menos lo tiene a él también. Toda esa parte es muy rara y muy cuestionable, pero dejemos de prestarle atención a eso y avanzemos.

Elfen Lied tiene de todo, sangre, desmembramientos, asesinatos, disparos, decapitaciones, ternura, amor, recuerdos traumáticos de la infancia, celos, enamoramientos, a Lucy actuando como un gato, por eso es que la comienzan a llamar como Nyaa, cosa que me da demasiada risa; también hay padres abusivos, ay, me acordé de una madre que insultó a su hija porque le dijo que el hombre que ella llevó a la casa la estaba abusando sexualmente, y ella, la madre, dijo que era la hija la que tenía problemas y no tenía por qué quejarse, ojalá la hubieran matado, joder, qué desgraciada. Incesto también hay, torturas, aislamientos, violación, manipulación, pérdida, hermandad, perversión, aunque eso ya lo dije, poderes o habilidades, y el deseo de existir sin la necesidad de que nos den permiso para hacerlo.

One of my favorite things is the creation of the Diclonius race, to which Lucy belongs, which is an evolution of the human being, where they grow horns on their heads and get the vectors, which are the kind of invisible hands with which they can interact with reality, and it is precisely with those vectors that she murders half the world to protect herself. Something very important in this story is that you can come to believe that Lucy is the bad of the story, and that is why she murders people and was locked up, but as the story progresses we will learn that only a bad run of situations was what led Lucy to be so, the first cause being the poor quality of humans in which they treat what is different as bad, as when we see all the mocking they do to her just for having horns, in addition to the bad physical and emotional treatment they receive for being different, that is, the day when a superior race of humans rises before us and kill us all, will have all the reason in the world, because we will dig our own grave with our actions and we can not blame whoever decides to put an end to our entire existence. It is morally impossible to blame someone for killing us when we are pushing them off a cliff.

Una de mis cosas favoritas es la creación de la raza Diclonius, que es a la que pertenece Lucy, que es una evolución del ser humano, donde les crecen cuernos en la cabeza y obtienen los vectores, que son las especies de manos invisibles con las que pueden interactuar con la realidad, que justamente es con esos vectores que asesina a medio mundo para protegerse. Algo muy importante en esta historia es que se puede llegar a creer que Lucy es la mala de la historia, y que por eso asesina a las personas y estaba encerrada, pero mientras más avanza la historia nos vamos a enterar de que tan solo una mala racha de situaciones fue la que llevó a Lucy a ser así, siendo la primera causa la mala calidad de los humanos en la que se trata a lo que es diferente como malo, como cuando vemos todas las burlas que le hacen solo por tener cuernos, además del mal trato físico y emocional que reciben por ser diferentes, o sea, el día en el que una raza superior de humanos se alce ante nosotros y nos asesinen a todos, tendrá toda la razón del mundo, pues nosotros cavaremos nuestra propia tumba con nuestras acciones y no podremos culpar a quien decida poner fin a toda nuestra existencia. Es moralmente imposible culpar a alguien de matarnos cuando lo estamos empujando por un acantilado.

I almost forgot to tell you why it was that I watched Elfen Lied again, and it was because I saw a post that said someone was recommending you an anime with a pink haired protagonist with powers, and in 2004 it's Elfen Lied, and in 2022 it's Spy x Family, and there was someone in the comments that said Spy x Family was better and made more sense than Elfen lied, and I'm still in shock that even someone didn't just go as far as to buy both anime when they are completely different, therefore, saying one is better than the other is completely wrong, but he still did, and he said Spy x Family was better, and fuck, I didn't, but they lectured him in the comments about what was wrong with what he was saying and why it was wrong, and I was surprised that they didn't insult him, they just told him real things without the intentions to offend that he had by comparing them and saying one was better than the other, and in the end they spoke so highly of Elfen Lied that it provoked me too much to watch it and I couldn't help but do it, so I did, and here I am, finishing the review.

If you can stand all the sexualization of the first chapters, you will see one of the best anime of your life, I can assure you that, I wish they had continued adapting the manga that I follow for 80 more chapters, but well, you have to be thankful that they have adapted a part of it and they have done it very well, too.

Casi olvido decirles por qué fue que vi Elfen Lied de nuevo, y fue porque vi una publicación que decía que alguien te estaba recomendando un anime con una protagonist de cabello rosados con poderes, y en el 2004 es Elfen Lied, y en el 2022 es Spy x Family, y hubo alguien en los comentarios que dijo que Spy x Family era mejor y tenía más sentido que Elfen lied, y aún sigo en shock de que siquiera alguien no solo llegue a comprar ambos ánimes cuando son completamente diferentes, por lo tanto, decir que uno es mejor que otro es completamente erróneo, pero aún así lo hizo, y dijo que Spy x Family era mejor, y joder, no lo hice, pero le dieron una cátedra en los comentarios sobre que estaba mal en lo que estaba diciendo y por qué estaba mal, y me sorprendió que no lo insultaron, solo le dijeron cosas reales sin las intenciones de ofender que él tuvo al compararlas y decir que una era mejor que otra, y al final hablaron tan bien de Elfen Lied que me provocó demasiado verla y no pude evitar hacerlo, así que lo hice, y aquí estoy, terminando la reseña.

Si logran soportar toda la sexualización de los primeros capitulos, verán uno de los mejores animes de toda su vida, eso se los puedo asegurar por completo, ojalá hubieran seguido adaptando el manga que sigo como por 80 capítulos más, pero bueno, ya hay que agradecer que hayan adaptado una parte y lo hayan hecho muy bien, además.
