Elemental | You don't have forever to say what you need to say

This is a movie that took me a long time to see and I don't regret having done it, I think it was one of the first movies I saw without reading any review or spoiler because I had already closed facebook and instagram, then, I had no place to read things about movies and series, apart from Hive, and here I could avoid reading voluntarily, then, I avoided them for a long time until I read a review, and a week later I saw the movie, now almost two months later I am here writing the review with beginning of migraine and a lot of sleep, but as I can't sleep, I am doing this.

By now you should know what Elemental is about, it follows Ember, a fire woman, and Wade, a water man, who live in Elemental City, the city where water, fire, earth and air coexist as harmoniously as they can. By things of fate, or causalities impossible to understand, Ember and Wade end up meeting, thus beginning a friendship that seemed impossible, until they took the real time to share, talk and understand each other, then, together as friends instead of incompatible opposites, they face challenges they could not have imagined before.

Esta es una película que tardé mucho en ver y no me arrepiento de haberlo hecho, creo que fue de las primeras películas que vi sin haber leído ninguna reseña o spoiler porque ya había cerrado facebook e instagram, entonces, no tenía ningún lugar donde leer cosas acerca de las películas y series, aparte de Hive, y aquí sí podía evitar leer voluntariamente, entonces, las evité por mucho tiempo hasta que leí una reseña, y a la semana vi la película, ahora casi dos meses después estoy aquí escribiendo la reseña con comienzo de migraña y mucho sueño, pero como no puedo dormir, estoy haciendo esto.

Ya deben saber de qué trata Elemental, sigue a Ember, una mujer de fuego, y Wade, un hombre de agua, que viven en Elemental City, la ciudad donde el agua, el fuego, la tierra y el aire coexisten lo más en armonía que puedan. Por cosas del destino, o causalidades imposibles de comprender, Ember y Wade terminan conociéndose, comenzando así una amistad que parecía imposible, hasta que se tomaron el tiempo verdadero de compartir, conversar y entenderse, entonces, juntos como amigos en vez de opuestos incompatibles, se enfrentan a retos que no podían haberse imaginado antes.

I said it a long time ago and I say it again here, if this movie had been sold as something more than a relationship between opposite elements, it would have been much more successful than it was, which I think it was, if I'm not mistaken.... Well all the issues that are dealt with in the movie are too many, they are deep and painful, I didn't think I would end up crying with this movie and when I least expected it I was trying to hold back my tears, because if I started crying, I wasn't going to stop later.

The issue of racial discrimination is something that is very present in the film, and I think it's one of the issues that people talk about the least when they talk about Elementary. Fire people live in a part of the city that is not only far away from the rest, but it is a part of the city that nobody, except for fire people, and people who have to go there for work, visit, otherwise, nobody who is Air, Earth or Water goes there, and from the beginning you notice how they are treated with disdain, contempt, as if just because they are of fire they were a problem and that they should not have to be in the city, it is strong, not easy at all.

Lo dije hace mucho tiempo y lo vuelvo a decir aquí, si esta película hubiera sido vendida como algo más que una relación entre elementos opuestos, hubiera tenido mucho más éxito del que tuvo, que creo que tuvo, si no me equivoco... Pues todos los temas que se tratan en la película son demasiados, son profundos y dolorosos, no creí que terminaría llorando con esta película y cuando menos lo esperé estaba tratando de aguantarme las lágrimas, porque si comenzaba a llorar, no iba a parar después.

El tema de la discriminación racial es algo que está muy presente en la película, y creo que es uno de los temas de los que menos habla la gente cuando habla de Elemental. Las personas de Fuego viven en una parte de la ciudad que está no solo alejada del resto, sino que es una parte de la ciudad a la que nadie, a excepción de las personas de fuego, y gente que tenga que ir por trabajo, visita, de resto, nadie que sea de Aire, Tierra o Agua va para allá, y desde un principio se nota como les tratan con desdén, desprecio, como si solo por el hecho de ser de fuega fueran un problema y que no tendrían por qué estar en la ciudad, es fuerte, nada fácil.

One of my favorite themes that this time was dealt with from two different points of view, is that of children's relationships with parents and how there are often expectations, conceptions and beliefs, true or false, that limit interactions with each other and what one believes the other expects and wants. From Ember's side we have the belief that she existed only to take over the family store and that alone was why she had to learn to control her temper, and from Wade's side we have him as a free soul has no pressure from his mother, or his family, as his father died and in a way because of that the family relationship was able to overcome any limits they might have had if things had been otherwise.

I loved, love, and will love all my life that Wade would have been the one who was the most emotional and would cry over anything, I mean, that was one of the things that amazed me the most and that I didn't expect to happen, because yes, from the beginning it was known that Ember had a temper problem and couldn't control her emotions, so leaving her as the most emotional one would have been much easier and simpler, but no, it was Wade who earned that title, and the best thing is that he was proud of being emotional and didn't hide it or was ashamed of being emotional, I loved him more in those moments.

Uno de mis temas favoritos que esta vez fue tratado desde dos puntos de vista diferente, es el de las relaciones de los hijos con los padres y cómo suelen existir expectativas, concepciones y creencias, verdaderas o falsas, que limitan las interacciones entre sí y lo que se cree que espera y quiere el otro. Desde el lado de Ember tenemos la creencia de que ella existía solo para hacerse cargo de la tienda familiar y que solo por eso tenía que aprender a controlar su temperamento, y desde el lado de Wade lo tenemos como un alma libre no tiene ninguna presión de parte de su madre, o de su familia, pues su padre murió y en cierta forma gracias a eso la relación familiar pudo superar cualquier límite que pudieran haber tenido si las cosas hubieran sido de otra forma.

Amé, amo, y amaré toda mi vida que Wade hubiera sido quien más emocional fuera y se pusiera a llorar por cualquier cosa, o sea, esa fue una de las cosas que más me maravilló y que no esperaba que sucediera, porque sí, desde un principio se supo que Ember tenía un problema de temperamento y no lograba controlar sus emociones, así que dejarla a ella como la más emocional hubiera sido mucho más fácil y sencillo, pero no, fue Wade quien se ganó ese título, y lo mejor es que él estaba orgulloso de ser emocional y no lo ocultaba o se avergonzaba de serlo, lo amé más en esos momentos.

The animation here was something incredible, really, just for that alone it's totally worth it. The story in general is decent, more than decent, really, it's very solid, and it has very beautiful moments, as well as intense moments and other moments with double meaning that give laughter only when you know what would be happening in another context, it's totally worth watching this movie, and truth be told, I will watch it again soon, I liked it a lot and I still like to want to see it.

La animación aquí fue algo increíble, de verdad, solo por eso vale totalmente la pena. La historia en general es decente, más que decente, la verdad, es muy sólida, y tiene momentos muy bellos, así como momentos intensos y otros momentos con doble sentido que dan risa solo cuando se sabe qué es lo que estaría pasando en otro contexto, vale totalmente la pena ver esta película, y la verdad, la veré de nuevo pronto, me gustó mucho y me sigue gustando querer verla.
