Asteriod City | You can't wake up if you don't fall asleep

The fear I had of watching this movie was not normal, so much so that I had forgotten to do it, until I remembered and in one of my impulses I started watching it, making the world stop for me, I was in a trance watching this movie because I couldn't believe it, the feeling of familiarity I was having was ridiculous, for it was immense, the sensation and feeling I had was indescribable, and believe that I have tried to put it into words, but I couldn't, it felt like home, at least to what home should feel like, the warmth, the calm, the peace, the feeling that even if everything was bad, everything would have a solution, out of this world.

It is not easy to give a synopsis of this film, because although it is described, it is not possible to find a clear way to expose everything it has, at least without people getting upset because you tell them the story, which is ridiculous, because the story here is the least important thing, and believe me, it is very important, but it is not the main thing. This film is like a play within a play within a play within a play, where we see how all the plays exist at the same time, coming to mix, and no matter what we do, it is almost impossible to separate them, coming to understand that this is how it was created from the beginning, in a chaos that exists without the need to make sense.

El miedo que tenía de ver esta película no era normal, tanto así que había olvidado hacerlo, hasta que lo recordé y en uno de mis impulsos comencé a verla, haciendo que el mundo se detuviera para mí, estuve en trance viendo esta película porque no podía creerlo, la sensación de familiaridad que estaba teniendo era ridícula, pues era inmensa, la sensación y el sentimiento que tenía era indescriptible, y crean que he tratado de ponerlo en palabras, pero no pude, se sentía como si fuera un hogar, al menos a lo que se debería sentir el hogar, la calidez, la calma, la paz, la sensación de que aunque todo fuera mal, todo tendría solución, fuera de este mundo.

Dar una sinopsis de esta película no es fácil, porque aunque se describa, no se logra dar con una forma clara de exponer todo lo que tiene, al menos sin que las personas se molesten porque les cuentes la historia, cosa rídicula, porque la historia aquí es lo que menos llega a tener importancia, y creanme, tiene mucha importancia, pero no es lo principal. Esta película es como una obra de teatro dentro de una obra de teatro dentro de una obra de teatro, donde vemos cómo todas las obras existen al mismo tiempo, llegando a mezclarse, y sin importar lo que hagamos, es casi imposible separarlas, llegando a entender que así fue creada desde un principio, en un caos que existe sin la necesidad de tener sentido.

The stories revolve around Asteriod City, a fictional city in the middle of the desert where a meterorite once fell, where there is now a mechanic, a hotel with 10 rooms, and a scientific research center where a contest for young scientists will be held, where they will not only test their experiments, but the way they see life and human existence will change forever, the moment they see an alien.

The movie makes no sense, and I think that's why I liked it so much, although there are certain things that can be predicted, and even if you do, they don't make sense, they can be very mundane, common, ridiculous, and at the same time be completely important and transcendental to what is happening, I repeat, even if what is happening doesn't make sense. So we have a father of 4 children whose wife has just died, so he is a widower, we have a movie star, we have five young scientists who are super intelligent and at the same time very weird, out of the ordinary, we have a school teacher, we have a scientist, and many other characters, because yes, they are characters in the play that is being performed, while outside the play they are completely different people. It is madness, very well done, nonsense, but total madness.

Las historias giran en torno a Asteriod City, una ciudad ficticia en medio del desierto donde una vez cayó un meterorito, donde ahora hay un mecánico, un hotel con 10 habitaciones, y un centro de investigación científica donde se llevará a cabo un concurso para jóvenes científicos, donde no solo pondrán a prueba sus experimentos, si no que la forma en que ven la vida y la existencia humana cambiará por siempre, en el momento en el que vean un alien.

La película no tiene sentido, y creo que fue por eso que me gustó tanto, aunque hay ciertas cosas que se pueden llegar a predecir, e incluso haciéndolo, no tienen sentido, pueden llegar a ser muy mundanas, comunes, ridícula, y a la vez ser completamente importantes y trascendentales para lo que está sucediendo, repito, aunque lo que esté sucediendo no tenga sentido. Pues tenemos a un padre de 4 hijos a quien se le acaba de morir la esposa, por lo que quedó viudo, tenemos a una estrella del cine, tenemos a cinco jóvenes científicos que son superinteligentes a la vez que muy raros, fuera de lo común, tenemos a una profesora de escuela, tenemos a una científica, y muchos otros personajes, porque sí, son personajes de la obra que se está representando, mientras que fuera de la obra son otras personas completamente diferentes. Es una locura, muy bien hecha, sin sentido, pero una locura total.

If there were a fifth, sixth, and seventh wall, here they would have broken it too, from the beginning we are made part of what is happening, we are given the signs to understand certain things, the characters look directly at us and talk to us, or they talk to each other through us, they tell us the story, they read and reread it, there is no established timeline between anything, although the events have a certain chronology, they question their actions, they suffer, they laugh, they relate, they hate each other, they love each other, they forget each other, they remember each other, they try to understand each other, they live, that, they live, because the total chaos in which they are immersed is horrifying, too real for everything to be a work of fiction, which it is, and it is not at the same time, it is a living contradiction in this film.

Something that I realized when I was already halfway through the film was that I felt I had already seen it, and there was a scene that slapped me in the face because I felt I had already seen it, when I hadn't, that was the level of familiarity I came to have with the film. By this I mean that this movie was like one of my dreams, many nonsense stories taking place at the same time while the thread of the story that unites them all is almost nonexistent, resulting in a mix of characters being sucked into a spiral that would never let them out.

Si hubiera una quinta, sexta, y séptima pared, aquí la hubieran roto también, desde un principio se nos hace parte de lo que está sucediendo, nos dan las señales para entender ciertas cosas, los personajes nos miran directamente y nos hablan, o se hablan entre ellos a través de nosotros, nos cuentan la historia, la leen y releen, no hay una linea de tiempo establecido entre nada, aunque los sucesos tengan cierta cronología, se cuestionan sus acciones, sufren, ríen, se relacionan, se odian, se aman, se olvidan, se recuerdan, tratan de entenderse, viven, eso, viven, porque el caos total en el que están inmersos es horripilante, muy real como para que todo sea una obra de ficción, que lo es, y no lo es a la vez, es una contradicción viva esta película.

Algo de lo que me di cuenta cuando ya iba por la mitad de la película fue que sentí que ya la había visto, y me pasó que hubo una escena que me dio una cachetada porque sentí que la había visto ya, cuando no era así, ese fue el nivel de familiaridad que llegué a tener con la película. Con esto quiero decir que esta película fue como uno de mis sueños, muchas historias sin sentido teniendo lugar al mismo tiempo mientras el hilo de la historia que las une a todas es casi inexistente, llegando a dar lugar a una mezcla de personajes siendo absorbidos en una espiral que no los iba a dejar salir nunca.

When I cried almost at the end of the movie I said I was seeing something I had already experienced and felt, but in a different way, watching Asteroid City was like watching a story that took place in the same universe as Beau is Afraid, Beau and Asteriod to me are a feeling, a sensation, a dream, an experience, they start from the same origin, only Beau goes to the negative side, and Asteroid goes to the positive side, but at the core of their individual existences they have the same birth that they will share forever, I love both movies, and it's an incredible thing that both Ari and Wes have been able to make them, considering that they are not movies for everybody, that they don't make sense, that you have to give it the interpretation you want, and that not everybody is going to even finish watching it just because the way the story is told is something that doesn't fit in their brains.

I thought I wouldn't like the trailer, but I did like it, it gives the necessary information to get you interested in the movie, but it doesn't prepare you at all for the chaos it really is, so if you expect something coherent and with sense, this is not the movie for you, it's deeper than it looks, and it's more ridiculous than it looks, it has everything, it's perfect, it's horrible, and I love it, I love it very much. Finally, there are films made for an out-of-the-ordinary audience.

Cuando lloré casi al final de la película dije que estaba viendo algo que ya había experimentado y sentido, pero en una forma diferente, ver Asteroid City fue como ver una historia que tenía lugar en el mismo universo que Beau is Afraid, Beau y Asteriod para mí son un sentimiento, una sensación, un sueño, una experiencia, que parten desde el mismo origen, solo que Beau va hacia el lado negativo, y Asteroid va hacia el lado positivo, pero en el nucleo de sus existencias individuales tienen un mismo nacimiento que van a compartir por siempre, amo ambas películas, y es algo increíble que tanto Ari como Wes hayan podido hacerlas, teniendo en cuenta que no son películas para todo el mundo, que no tienen sentido, que tú tienes que darla la interpretación que quieras, y que no todo el mundo la va a llegar siquiera a terminar de ver solo porque la forma en que está contada la historia es algo que no les cabe en el cerebro.

Pensé que no me llegaría a gustar el trailer, pero sí me gustó, da la información necesaria para que te llegue a interesar la película, pero no te prepara en absoluto para el caos que es en realidad, pues si esperan algo coherente y con sentido, esta no es una película para ustedes, es más profunda de lo que parece, y es más ridícula de lo que parece, tiene de todo, es perfecta, es horrible, y la amo, la amo mucho. Finalmente hay películas hechas para un público fuera de lo común.
