Director Tim Hill brought Roberts' classic novel to life in this battle of wills between a mischievous boy and his conniving grandfather Ed.

Robert De Niro is pure comic gold as the cantankerous titular grandfather, pulling every trick in the book to reclaim the bedroom stolen by his grandson Peter, refreshingly played by Oakes Fegley.

All the pranks and intrigues had me howling, from tampering with the brakes on Peter's bike to substituting hot sauce for milk. De Niro and Fegley make a masterful odd couple.

Support from Uma Thurman and Rob Riggle as Peter's exasperated parents provides the perfect counterpoint to the zany antics that wage war in their home.

Hill never lets the relentless comedy become mean-spirited, respecting the foundations of the family at its core. Good feel-good, relatable and repeatable ad nauseam.

This generational squabble made me laugh more than any other recent film. De Niro proves a worthy comic adversary for the mischievous child actors - hilarious!

A perfect choice for family enjoyment, celebrating the bonds that warmly unite all ages. A real hit with audiences.

Audiences enthusiastically embraced De Niro and Fegley's hilarious antics and it opened at #1 during the 2020 pandemic, with a solid opening weekend of $3.6 million.

Reviews were overwhelmingly positive, with many noting De Niro's funny and energetic comedic performance.

It ended up grossing $38 million worldwide on a modest $25 million budget, proving that this generational comedy appeals to viewers of all ages looking for light-hearted fun.
