In this story based on true events, we are immersed in the turbulent world of slavery in 19th century America and the life of Sally Hemings, a slave woman who had a controversial relationship with Thomas Jefferson, one of the founding fathers of the United States.

The film takes us through the tumultuous events of the era, exploring the complexities of the relationship between Sally and Thomas against a backdrop of power, oppression and racial inequality.

As their story unfolds, we witness the challenges they faced, the injustices they suffered and the difficult decisions they had to make in the midst of a world that was not ready to accept their love.

With moving performances, skillful direction and a script that addresses deep and provocative themes, “Sally Hemings: The Story of a Scandal” invites us to reflect on the nature of love, justice and freedom in a historical context that continues to resonate in today's society.

Through its focus on the struggle for equality, dignity and recognition of the humanity of all, the film takes us on an emotional and moral journey that challenges us to question our own beliefs and prejudices in a world where truth and justice are often overshadowed by injustice and oppression.

Carmen Ejogo and Sam Neill play their roles with care, empathy and flammable chemistry. Their crossover longing illuminates the evils of slavery while finding poignancy in love rejected by circumstances of birth.

A rigorous script shows how Sally Hemings and many others were denied personhood while Thomas Jefferson's liberating rhetoric rang hollow to those he abandoned.

This empathetic telefilm fostered understanding by confronting the truth, proof that honest history, however harsh, generates clarity and repairs old wrongs. Its impact, though muted, was seismic.

I can already picture how this went and I guess that the ending wasn't what many people would have wanted but rang true of actuual history, nonetheless. Nicely done!
