Dear Evan Hansen, a teenage drama

Teen dramas usually leave me sceptical, but I have to admit that Dear Evan Hansen managed to move me in several passages.
While Ben Platt was already very popular on Broadway, I was surprised by his degree of vulnerability on camera.
He delivers a raw and nuanced performance that deserved the praise.
Steven Levenson, the original screenwriter, was able to transfer the story to the screen with subtlety, delving into universal themes such as loneliness, identity and the need to belong.

And Stephen Chbosky's direction always brings into sharp focus the details that matter, both in the musical lyrics and the drama.
It wasn't perfect and some scenes could have been more mature, but its powerful message of compassion resonated strongly with young people.
A musical that leaves some important food for thought.
Without a doubt, Dear Evan Hansen refreshes the genre with a memorable story that does the medium proud.

Platt was justly honoured for playing such a moving role, winning Best Actor at the Critics' Choice Awards as well as the BAFTA and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor and the play in the categories of Best Original Song and Best Editing.
