I went to see guardians yesterday, I think it was an okay movie, but it never went beyond okay either, I was entertained for the whole movie, that is at least better than some movies get.
The story wasn't all that amazing, telling the back story of Rocket the racoon who until the end of this movie insisted he was not a racoon.
Though that really does not make sense, since he supposedly remembered so he should be able to remember that before this point, but okay that is a small point.
Let's start with the beginning of the movie, Star lord is sad from having lost the love of his life, then some golden dude shows up to retrieve Rocket, he mostly beats all the people in Nowhere but eventually gets overwhelmed by Nebula, so he has to retreat, but oh no he hurt Rocket badly. Which probably was against his purpose, but perhaps we should not dig too deep I have a feeling the movie will really suffer from any deep analysis.
So the natural thing to do when somebody is hurt is to try and help them, so they try to use a medpack on Rocket, but this does not work since there is a stop block in him to prevent any healing from being done, this is really a bad design since the villian of this piece kind of wants Rocket back, however he could not get him if he dies. Another story problem, but this point is really necessary for the whole movie, without it they would just heal Rocket and none of the movie really has to happen.
Freaking lucky that Nebula can read the necessary information from rocket, otherwise we would have no way to find out where to get the information necessary to save him. So far we have had 3 incidents necessary to have this movie even start.
With these initial bumps over with we can begin the actual movie, and meet the villian of this piece. The villian feels like a bit of a discount Thanos, a villian with supposedly good intentions but using all the wrong means to achieve his goals, and very much less powerful than Thanos. Well our heroes goes to the enemy headquarters to find the information needed, they get it, having to fight their way out. But oh no somebody deleted the information they wanted on that exact day, so they have to return to get the information they wanted. This leads us on a journey to the world our villian has created, he calls it counter-earth, he has inhabited it with several different creatures he has grown or built, but since this is not a perfect world he destroys it to start over.
Our heroes get the information, but with half the team left on the ship of the villian they have to return, but they saved Rocket and go head to head against the enemy, and beats him.
The villian of the piece was called the "High Evolutionary" and he really is a douche, he wants Rocket back as he is the only creature our villian ever created that can create original thoughts, the rest only can do rote memorisation, but even more Rocket is smarter than the villian. This is more likely the reason why he wants Rocket back, it seems the villian is doing stuff way worse than many others, and when he does not like the results he simply incinerates the results even though they are in fact living beings.
I have read many good things about this film and I am quite excited about it. Marvel movies have been a bit underwhelming as of late but hopefully, this will be exciting enough.
I you liked the other guardians of the galaxy movies I think it is a safe bet you would like this one as well
