Bubble Boy is a light comedy film that might appear silly or excessive to many viewers, yet, in fact, the kind of comedy it uses has a very specific character. This movie is about a young man, Jimmy, who lives literally in a plastic bubble as he has a disease whereby he cannot interact with people normally. His mother tries to protect him from the outside world to such an extent that she literally imprisoned him in this bubble.
Well, it's about how Jimmy realizes his girl will get married to somebody else in California, and so he plans to come out of his shell, go on a wild adventure, and oppose the very marriage. That was just the beginning of all the comic situations that happen with him everywhere.
The real merit of the film is that it offers an illogical kind of comedy that doesn't take itself seriously. You feel like they are saying, "We'll do anything that makes you laugh," and that's it, like the strange characters that Jimmy meets on his way, the Indian gang, the strange religious groups, and everything strange you can imagine.
Jake Gyllenhaal, who played Jimmy, was honestly a genius in presenting such an innocent, impulsive, comedic character. His acting was very natural-you feel that he is really a young man who was raised in a bubble and does not know how to deal with people.
The movie in no way looks into logic, nor is that the point of the film. It really aims at having you laugh your head off from situations, exaggeration, and stuff one feels cannot ever happen, but whose beauty lies in actually having happened-and that makes this movie a first-class comedy.
Bubble Boy, many people may not like its idea or find it childish, but if you enter the movie knowing that you will see something light-hearted and light-hearted, nothing more, you will laugh from your heart.
