Unlike the Action-Comedy, Civil War, this movie is based on actual history, has a plot and characters that you care about.
The movie is set during WWII. Germany is marching across Europe, Britain is getting hammered and the US, as always, is holding back from joining in until the last minute.
German U-Boats are picking off supply ships as will, which is used as the excuse for the US watching from the sidelines.
Enter our heroes. Churchill, Ian Fleming (Yes, THAT Ian Fleming) and 'M' decide to put together a team to hobble the German U-boat fleet by destroying the ship that will provide them with months worth of supplies, including the all-important CO2 filters.
The team is made up of Gus-March-Philips, who Ian Fleming based James Bond on, Anders Lassen, Geoffrey Appleyard and female spy, Marjorie Stewart. These are real people and they were bad-ass.
The team arrives to find that there are many more Germans than reported and the ship they are supposed to sink has received significant up-armoring. Chaos ensues.
This movie is directed by Guy Richie, so it it violent, the character banter is on point and the action never stops.
The fact that this is a true story makes it even more compelling.
