How are you? Nice to say hello again for the first time this week.... Have you ever decided to watch a movie just because of a silly situation about it? Well, it happened to me with a Studio Ghibli movie that I'm going to talk to you about today, The Castle in the Sky, and I think I should give you some context and I feel that this time those of you who speak Spanish will feel more identified with it.

Pues me pasó con una película del Studio Ghibli de la cual les hablaré hoy y es El Castillo en el Cielo y creo que debo darles contexto y siento que ésta vez se van a sentir mas identificados los que hablan español.
It turns out that I was watching a video about dubbing in movies and this one in particular has caught my attention in a funny way because the floating castle happens to be called "LAPUTA" (which in English is like saying "THEB*TCH") and it's pretty funny how much they repeat it throughout the movie and it's not their fault, really the castle is called that but in Spanish you know.... It's a little strange. After that, I saw a trailer of the movie in Japanese and I was interested in watching it since it looked pretty good, but, I wanted to see it in Japanese because obviously they were going to pronounce it differently (they pronounce it as "ryapiuta" or something like that), but, I couldn't get the movie in the original language so, I had to watch it dubbed into Spanish and I confess that many times I couldn't hold my laughter.
Resulta que yo estaba viendo un video sobre doblajes en películas y ésta en particular ha llamado un poco la atención de manera graciosa ya que el castillo flotante resulta que se llama "LAPUTA" (que en inglés es como si dijera "THEB*TCH") y es bastante gracioso lo mucho que lo repiten a lo largo de la película y es que no tienen la culpa, realmente el castillo se llama así pero en español ya saben... Es un poco extraño. Seguido de eso, me salió un tráiler de la película en japonés y me interesó verla ya que se veía bastante bien, pero, quería verla en japonés porque obviamente lo iban a pronunciar de diferente forma (lo pronuncian como "ryapiuta" o algo así), pero, no pude conseguir la película en idioma original así que, la tuve que ver doblada al español y confieso que muchas veces no pude aguantar la risa.
The Castle in the Sky (Tenkū no Shiro Laputa) is a 1986 film directed by Hayao Miyazaki (who recently won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature with The Boy and the Heron after 20 years of being awarded for Spirited Away) which is considered the studio's first film. The film follows the adventures of Pazu and Sheeta, two young couple who try to stop a group of agents from getting their hands on the magic stone that Sheeta carries, which shows the way to the floating island called Laputa.

The movie starts with a lot of intensity I won't deny it, but, it ended up being my least favorite of the studio (which until now I had really liked everything I had seen), it has entertaining moments, its moments of action and all that, but it's still not clear to me why the villain wanted to take over an empty city, what could he do there? This may sound a bit of a spoiler, but Sheeta tells Muska (the villain) that the people of Laputa abandoned the city because they realized that they had to live on earth (a phrase that I thought was very good honestly), and yet he wanted to take over a city practically in ruins and completely abandoned. I don't know if I'm not very receptive to these things but the villain's goal seemed pretty silly to me.
La película comienza con mucha intensidad no voy a negarlo, pero, terminó siendo mi menos favorita del estudio (que hasta ahora me había gustado mucho todo lo que había visto), tiene momentos entretenidos, sus momentos de acción y todo eso, pero aún no me queda claro para que quería el villano apoderarse de una ciudad vacía, ¿Qué podría hacer allí? Esto puede sonar un poco a spoiler, pero Sheeta le dice a Muska (el villano) que la gente de Laputa abandonó la ciudad porque se dieron cuenta de que tenían que vivir en la tierra (frase que me pareció muy buena sinceramente), y aún así quería apoderarse de una ciudad prácticamente en ruinas y completamente abandonada. No se si yo seré muy poco receptiva para éstas cosas pero la meta del villano me pareció bastante tonta.
This movie has a duration of 2 hours in which I personally consider that it should have lasted a little less and well it was the "first" (I put it in quotes because when researching I saw that Nausicä of the Valley of the Wind is considered first, which was released a year before the founding of the studio) work of the studio in which you can see more or less the style they were going to handle, honestly I thought this movie was more recent because it looks pretty good quality in its animation. This is probably my third favorite Ghibli movie. The goal of the villain was to claim the city but it wasn't just to possess the city itself but its treasure and the power it has. Sounds like maybe the Spanish dub wasn't that great. The English dub is ok but of course the original Japanese (with subtitles) is best.
