Movie Review:

Imagine going back to the time of World War Two, where Henry Cavill leads an unconventional group of soldiers on a dangerous mission to sink a German ship.

It is such a thrilling idea and with Guy Ritchie as the director, you know something wild is about to unfold.

However, before we get into any action, let’s tackle the main issue that everyone has been talking about: is there any connection with James Bond?

Now, personally, I was among those fascinated by this movie potentially explaining the origins of our favorite British spy.

One can easily guess why all these theories are circulating around especially when one sees Ian Fleming making an appearance.

However, let me make it clear; “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” isn’t another James Bond prequel. It’s just a separate story though and that’s what makes it so interesting.

Now, for the main dish: action.

Wow! This movie is seriously awesome in that respect. Each one of them is overloaded with anxiety and thrill from heart pounding close-quarter combats, to adrenaline filled gun fights.

And yes, they are killing Nazis everywhere – a statement that is gratifying as it sounds but is an issue on some platforms when reviewing the film. But let’s leave this point aside; instead, let us enjoy the incredible excitement.

Certainly, no action flick would be comprehensive without a lineup of unforgettable personalities, and this holds true for “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare”.

Nevertheless, Henry Cavill dominates the film with his signature charm while others provide excellent support roles. A case in point is Gonzalez portrayed by Alan Ritchson who does it with great enthusiasm. Although his bizarre musical scene may not sit well with some people, believe me; it will become one of your favorite parts.

Well, now let us make some inevitable comparisons:

There are similarities, yes; however, to dismiss this film as a mere rip-off would be very unfair to it. "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" is uniquely its own – funny when it needs to be and action-packed when the time calls for it and even has a little bit of heart mixed in. In the mix there is Henry Cavill who manages to bring a modicum of reality amidst all the craziness.

However, no movie is without its weak points and "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" is not exceptional either.

The action can be electrifying at times but often the tempo seems patchy. Sometimes I wished for more cutting down of scenes or even narrowing down on plotline. Besides being memorable characters, I think there could have been further insightful exploration into some.

But in the end, all of these things are not important. The most important thing is that it provides a fun two hours of entertainment at the movie theater. The film may not be trying to be a masterpiece but it doesn’t matter at all. At times, you want nothing more than to take it easy and watch things explode – and on this score, the movie does not disappoint.

So if you’re looking for that heart-stopping adventure storyline with bits of action, humor and war-time mystery, then look no further from “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare”. It isn’t perfect but it’s one hell of a ride-and sometimes that’s enough!
